Hurricane Irene really took a toll on 20 foot hole. Most of the stream (and much of VT for that…read morematter) was devistated from huge flash flooding and the swimming hole was filled in with mud, silt,and rocks. Some of the locals have been trying to restore the swimming hole by scooping out the mud with buckets. I will update more this summer on this progress.

I got on that boat, (no life jacket either!!), and then jumped into the water in the middle of the lake after being egged on by friends and lo and behold... I REALLY COULD STAND IN THE WATER!! Are you kidding me? I am in the middle of the lake and the water is only up to my chest, this is AMAZING, can I stay in here all day? I love water but am afraid of getting on boats, and much less JUMPING in the water...but this lake was amazing! Did I also mention that another it met my other large body of water criteria?? You could actually see down to the bottom of the lake where we were standing...um hmm...that's right...so clear, but of course it is! It's one of the 10 cleanest natural lakes in the WHOLE world! Imagine that, in tiny New Hampshire to boot! All this beauty surrounded by large trees, and cute lake houses. Even the islands in the lake looked like mini forests! P.S. Hate to harp on about how shallow some parts of the lake were, but I will because it was pretty amazing to see people standing in the water and playing catch in the middle of the lake, or a man pulling a nice sized boat with his fam on it with the water only up to his waist...it was practically like seeing Jesus walking on water or something!! Monumental scenery, a large sandy beach, one of the cleanest lakes in the nation, easy access, a boat ramp, an events pavilion, and close to restaurants and the near town of Bristol. When we got here, it was quite busy, Still, the size of the beach made it possible to find a nice spot and relax. Water temperature was actually quite enjoyable. One of the nicest things about this park is the people. It is a diverse, multilingual, multi age bunch of folks. Couples, parents with kids, elderly, just a wonderful community. Everyone was peacefully having fun. I got to practice both my Spanish and Portuguese talking to beach goers. Overall, a wonderful time in an absolutely idyllic location.

Bucklin Beach is owned and operated by the town of New London and access is limited to town residents and their guests. An ample parking area allows access to the beautiful sandy beach. Once in the beach there are several pavilions available for common use. The town also owns several kayaks, canoes, row boats and Stand-up Paddle Boards available free of charge. Users have to sign a liability waiver once a year. However, personal-owned craft are not allowed on the beach. For that purpose, there is a docking station at the other side of the lake. The beach is staffed by some of the nicest lifeguards ever, many of them in their third or fourth consecutive season. Every time we have been there, we have found them to be honestly devoted to customer enjoyment. There are no refreshments or food sold at the beach. Another beautiful side of this location is the unbelievable sunsets.

What a beautiful and serene spot!…read more Echo Lake is approximately 15.7 acres. Two granite ledges called White Horse and Cathedral Ledge surround it. We went later in the afternoon so parking was ample. A short walk leads you to the picnic area and lake. It's about a 1 mile hike around the lake. The water was clear and cold. There were lots of mosquitoes at that hour. We enjoyed seeing the tadpoles in the water. My family enjoyed our time there and can't wait to go back to this picturesque spot!

They do have a large parking lot, but it seems to fill very quickly. The beach is very family oriented. You can rent canoes. You can rent kayaks. You can rent paddle boats. The fees are very reasonable. They have tubes. You can also purchase for a small fee of six dollars. The beach was not overcrowded. They have many hiking trails and areas around that area as well. They have charcoal grills that you can use up off the beach with some grassy area that you could also camp at. There is also a bathhouse there that's open as well as a small store There are no lifeguards it's a swim at your own risk Very very clean

It is nice to have the best aunt in the world there. We sat on the porch looking out at the lake and told stories. We laughed and laughed. In the evening, we went to pop's for fish and chips. I ate the whole thing! It was so good. Then we went for a walk around the campground. The houses are really cute. We went to Wolfeboro in the morning. We had coffee and donuts at a cute bakery. They sat out on the dock watching the boats go by. I tucked in a few stores but I wasn't looking for anything. I hope to come back in August and explore some more. There is so much to do up here. The popular activities are boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and wildlife viewing.

There's a train that gives you an hour tour. I believe it cost $15-20 bucks. Toddlers are free I believe. The beach wasn't too rocky. Had little waves from all the boats passing by. The nearest docks are fishable for those seeking to fish. I heard that when the Washington boat leaves, that's the spot you want to cast from cause it stirs up the bottom and that's when this fish comes out from the docks. They have bathrooms on the beach. I didn't go inside to see how they were but my sister in-law did with my son so it must of been manageable. They had some large trees by the entrance which could be used as shade if you didn't bring an umbrella. Would I return: Yes. IF the lake vibes is what we are looking for. We personally like rivers and waterfalls better.
