I was informed in 2026 of dividends that he had and they would be sending them to me, his widow. I informed the rep that my husband is deceased and there is no way for me go recoup these funds if they were in his name. She did not offer me any assistance and unsympathetically and robotically, replied, "no you would not be able to cash these." Hung up the phone after replying. Long story short, she did not offer me any assistance on the call, did not inform me there was a third party issuer that i could call and request the cheques be put into my name as the surviving spouse, i had to inform her of the aforementioned, and she did not know any of this information, as she began to look up my research and scramble to give me data i had already given her, via FAQ page she found. I find it humourous that this rep knew i couldn't cash the dividends miraculously, but didnt know about the surviving spouse reissuance clause? I would have gladly accepted, for her to call me back with CORRECT information. She offered me no help nor imformation at all. I truly hope she doesn't treat other long standing customers this way. As my husband's widow I had to do all this research myself and relay all the information to her in a second phone call. Again, on this call she was extremely passive aggressive for absolutely no reason and was totally uncalled for, especially during my time of grieving. She had absolutely no empathy in her voice nor an ounce of customer service. She offered me no further information nor assistance, awful. An uncaring rep at the keaau office, she could not wait to get me off the phone. This rep is in need of sensitivity training, this is not how you treat long standing customers or anyone...is this the example now being set State Farm Keaau?? I am very disheartened by all of this and will no longer use State farm for insurance ever. All it takes is just one employee State Farm, you have your one employee. An hour later, I spoke to State Farms customer Dividend contact Heather. Heather was extreme in her rudeness, she purposely repeated my phone number incorrectly, and then became overtly passive aggressive, why is this behaviour allowed to happen? Her aggressive tone and rudeness i could not longer stand and I ended the call. I can not longer allow myself to be treated this way by State farm and have realised i will not get the help necessary to correct this situation. Since I have no other recourse I will have to forego the dividends. I am disgusted by State Farm and my departed husband would have been too, especially at my treatment by these two employees.

First Hawaiian Bank - Waiakea Branch

First Hawaiian Bank - Waiakea Branch

    (5 reviews)

If money doesn't grow on trees, why do banks have branches?…read more I mean, I'm not complaining--in fact, I quite like that First Hawaiian Bank expanded to have more convenient branches around town in recent years! Not the least of which being their Waiakea branch, located right next to Prince Kuhio Plaza where the old Blockbuster used to be (the building was empty for a while...). Given that FHB's main branch in Hilo tends to be very busy at most times throughout the day, having another option nearby is always welcome. The Waiakea branch tends to be very convenient in my experience as well. They're rarely as busy as the main branch, always have way more than enough parking, and have tellers available to help in person as well as virtually if their on-site staff are occupied. Also, by virtue of its convenient location, you're allowed to avoid the craziness of driving downtown, which is almost reason enough by itself if ever you were on the fence about swinging by the Waiakea branch instead of its larger counterpart. With all that being said, I don't really think you can go wrong with either of the locales, but it really is nice to have more options these days. Especially once that don't really cost you anything experience-wise and even provide added conveniences. Don't hesitate to hit them up if you need to do a little banking and are in the area. I don't think you'll find any dropoff in quality.

Opened a large account 1 year ago. Deposited $120,000 in savings…read more Not treated rudely, but treated as if we were just depositing $1,000. (For comparison, when we opened up a $100 K account at Chase in California, we had 3 different managers offering us all kinds of good things, and immediately assigned a "private banker". Nothing like that with FHB.) The next day set up my on-line account, and discovered our savings had gone missing. We had no money. Immediately drove to Hilo with our receipts wanting to know what happened. Somehow, they managed to find our deposit. Should have taken my money and left right then. But gave them another chance. Then in Dec 2022, someone hacked our debit card. Ran up a bunch of charges. I was the one who discovered the fraud. (For reference, 12 years ago the same thing happened with our Chase debit. While it was happening, Chase called me to confirm the charges. When I said to stop it, they did so immediately.) Not so much with HFB. After a month, did get our money back, so we continued to bank with HFB. Then in Feb '22, mailed our yearly check to our HOA, spelling out the HOA name on the check, and envelope. Somehow, our check ended up with the Hawaii Department of Taxation. Don't know why, but they submitted it to FHB for payment. And FHB cashed the check! Without any questions! When I discovered that our HOA had not received my payment, but that Hawaii's Tax Dept had received our money, I got ahold of the bank, and asked why they gave our money to the State. They had no answer, but blamed the State for cashing the check! Then I asked what FHB would do to help us get our money back, and was told that was my responsibility. FHB committed malfeasance and misappropriation of our funds. I cannot recommend this bank to anyone. Bernard J Rhatigan

Friendliness aside, let's talk about service. To me, I picture this branch to operate like banks of old when everyone knew each other on a personal level, and not only do they remember your name but more importantly, your preferences. I haven't encountered such personal service at any other bank, at any other location. Example: these ladies will personally call you BEFORE your account gets overdraft! I know this because my late mother had 4 accounts here and they would keep tabs on all of them. They'll call to say, "this account has a pending charge but will overdraw it, you want to transfer money from the other account?" And again, they've been doing this for years for us. And it's not like any of these ladies are a relative, we're just regular old loyal customers is all. Again, no other branch I believe would do this. Plus when my mother passed away, they sat down with us and made handling all the legal stuff with them a breeze. In efforts to consolidate banks I wanted to close these accounts and just go to one bank (not this bank but the one my husband works for!), but just because the ladies at this branch were so professional and wonderful to us over the years, I can't move myself to leave. Now that's how you keep a customer!

I needed to set up a joint account with my elderly parent who is in dementia ward so I can pay his bills for him, and the person I dealt with basically accused me of plotting to keep getting his SS checks after my father dies and refused to open an account for me. She said the only way I could open up an account was if I brought an 87 year old man with dementia into the bank to prove his identity, but with 3 clicks of a mouse I was able to open an account online with an online bank. I have worked right next door for 10 years, so this bank would have been super convenient for me, but now I understand why there was not a single customer in the bank that day. Do not give these people your money!
