I will NEVER use Avis again, or recommend it to anyone else! I was assured before booking this trip that there would be no additional fee for adding my husband, my legal spouse, as an additional driver and I was charged an additional $65 for adding him, even though your own website says spouses are free. I was told by the agent at pick-up at the Wichita, Kansas airport that it was because I booked my trip through Priceline. Priceline even told me that they abide by the policies Avis gives them, and their policy is that spouses are free. This is FRAUD plain and simple. Nowhere on the Avis website does it say that if we book our trips with a third party service then we have to pay for an additional driver. I even have a case number from Priceline because I was assured that any charges for the additional driver would be refunded at drop-off and that was a lie as my credit card was charged $80.19 for additional charges, $65 of that being for the additional driver and who knows what the rest of it was. I am cancelling my credit card today so that this fraud company can't charge anything else to my card. read more

Traveled to Wichita for business in May. I had booked an SUV but when I arrived to the counter they gave me a car as they were out of SUVs. I took the car and drove it for the week. I returned the car 4 days later, with a full tank of gas and no damage. The car was inspected and booked back in by the Avis attendant. I received a statement for the rental charges. No issues noted. A couple of weeks later I noticed a charge on my credit, and later received a letter in the mail stating there was damage to the car. The letter did not indicate what the damage was, just a dollar amount. I travel a couple of times a year for work and a couple more for personal. I have been renting from Avis for a while with no issue. I can't help but to think this is a location specific issue. read more

My husband and I arrived in Wichita airport last night. We had reserved a car. When we arrived there was no one at the counter. We looked around and called out hello for about 10 mins. There was no bell or way to call someone so we finally knocked kind of hard on the metal key return box. A person who said her name was Misty came out screaming at us asking why we knocked so hard on the window. We didn't knock on any window. She was so agressive and continued to treat us poorly and eventually told us that she wouldn't rent us the car we had reserved and told me to get out of her area. No wonder Avis,,at this airport, gets such bad reviews! Very insulting and not at all necessary behavior! If you are thinking of renting from Avis I would definitely re-think that decision. I recently rented a vehicle for two days and returned it on time with a full tank. I prepaid for this rental and a few days after drop off I noticed they had charged me an additional $283. I was charged $184 for fuel and $86 for an additional day. I have been renting with Avis for a long while now and understand the process of renting a vehicle. I know to bring it back on time and with a full tank. I called customer service and they said I need to prove that I filled up the tank. I didn't keep the receipt. I sent in my bank statement to provide I put gas in. They told me that was not good enough. While I was checking the vehicle in the attendant asked if the tank was full. I said yes he then checked to see if it was and told me I was good to go. Renting a car is usually very easy but this experience had forever changed my mind on renting a car and I will never use Avis or any of there sister companies again. First car they gave us had the low tire warning light on and the tank was only 3/4 full. Second car reeked of cigarette smoke. Third car was fine but the experience was frustrating. I try to be understanding these days because I know there are problems with staffing and getting cars but neither of those cars should have been on the lot. I'd leave a negative star if that was an option. I absolutely hate renting from Avis it doesn't matter what city, what state the staff is rude at every single location. Got in late tonight to the Wichita airport, the woman at the desk doesn't even say hello just starts barking commands at me, yells at me for my cell phone number as I explain to her I just got a new number yesterday and was looking at my phone to make sure I didn't give it to her incorrectly. I asked what email address they would be sending my reciept to and she refused to give me that information. These are such basic things it blows my mind your employees are allowed to act so unprofessionally. I rented a compact car and was given a giant mini van, there were about 10 compact cars in the parking lot but the agent refused to even discuss a car option with me. I guess as long as there is demand you will allow your employees to have 0 concern for customer service/experience. read more

Ok this is for the airport. I only tried to use it today. Made a reservation thru AARP trying to save a couple of dollars. Go to the rental car section of the airport. Gave my ID and my wife pulled out her credit card. Before my wife handed it to her she said she wouldn't take it because it was a credit/ debit card. My wife said it is a credit card as we pay recurring payments on it and it has a balance. The lady kept saying no so we left without the car. So we went home and made the same arrangements with a competitor. read more

BEWARE - DIRTY UNDERWEAR We picked up a car in Wichita last month and a passenger in the backseat noticed something under the front passenger seat. It was a nasty used BRA that was stuffed under the seat. The car looked like it was used in a high speed chase through the woods (scratched all over). We dropped the car off in Kansas City at the airport KCI and told the leasing agents at the counter. Her response " Call Corporate " that was it - no apologies, no looks of shock or disbelief. When have to rent a car I expect it to be clean. I did tell the customer service gentleman when I returned the car and he said he would take $15 off my total. To all of you who use Avis.... I was just charged ~$3 for 0.6 gallons of gas. Now that they have "smart cars" the digital device said I had 19.9, not the 20.5 gal I left with. When I asked how I would know that, I was told the contract says I need to fill up within 2-5 miles of return. If my company didn't have terms it would have been ~$15 charge. They took advantage of my sister as she was rushing to the hospital where her husband was dying. Her car was not ready, and the "only" other car available was a luxury car costing three times the amount! After he died, she has to fight to extend the turn in time while she made funeral arrangements and organ donor arrangements. They are heartless and disgusting. read more

During a time of duress when a family member suddenly passed, the staff at Avis ICT went above and beyond in leasing a vehicle that was right for me. HOWEVER, I was very disappointed that those same individuals that was responsible for returning property left in the trunk to me had allowed a $100 VISA gift card be removed and not included upon receipt of said property. Back to Enterprise we go. Picked up an Explorer at Avis at the Dallas, Texas airport, dropping car in Omaha, Nebraska. We didn't get out of Dallas and hazard warning light came on. One tire was extremely low. Stopped and aired it up. Fine for a few hours then hazard warning sounded again. Same tire is low. We are almost to Wichita, KS at this point. It's getting late and unsure what might happen over night so I call the only open Avis in Wichita which is at the airport. He says to bring car in and they will exchange it. We arrive around 9:30. First thing he notices is car is on 3/4 of a tank and he won't take it back unless it has a full tank without charging us $5 per gallon. Sends us to Sams down the road after dark with a vehicle with a bad tire. Hoping they were still open, I get directions on my phone. We arrived, it is closed. Took 10 minutes to find another station, since we are not familiar with area. Take car back to airport. He brings us a Nissan Pathfinder. Not exactly comparable to Explorer and my husband says that to him. It's the Nissan or nothing. The car is not as large, not as comfortable, hard to control air, radio and other features. No credit, no offer for an upgrade for our trouble, just zero customer service. Enterprise al least knows how customer service works. read more
