I love the variety, selection and quality of food at Aviv. There's a good mix of savoury and sweet items, and you can always find something to buy to satisfy a craving or to organise a work lunch/party or whatever. Their bagels aren't my favourite, but they have great quiches, and often at work we get their cakes for various occasions and they never disappoint. However ... with all of that said, the only real negative I can say is that they are a tad overpriced and to me, it lets them down. I also happened to buy a birthday cake, a mini quiche and a cookie and I had some sticker shock for sure. When the cookie was rung up and it said $5, I thought that was the mini quiche and cookie added up together. So that day I spent $51 and when I was leaving, I asked if there was a bag to put the cake in. The only bags were the cloth ones, and they were going to charge me .50c for one when I just spent $51. I had to do a whole separate transaction on EFT-POS just to pay for this .50c bag. I feel that not only are they a bit overpriced, but they need to use common sense when charging for a bag after someone has spent a certain amount. If I could travel the world on a journey just to find the best vanilla slice I would go in a heartbeat. Until I book that flight I have found Melbourne's contender in the challenge and it is located inside what some say is also one of the best places to buy bagels in town, Aviv's. If you are planning to have people over for brunch I highly recommend pre ordering some mini bagels. Your guests will be as happy as I am when I go to someone's house for brunch and I see those little circles of holy dough. read more

Mostly Jewish inspired cakes, biscuits, danish's, strudels, bread and bagels. All of their little biscuits and sweets are pretty good where if you were having a little brunch party they'd be perfect for coffee and biscuits. Some of the breads look really good as well where I'm a big bagel fan so was keen on their poppy seed bagels. Not an amazing place to get a coffee but still has a lot of charm and is good for those occasions where you need to bring a treat to a party or dinner. read more

This little cafe is well-known in the Elsternwick/ Caulfield area as THE place to go for bagels, cakes and biscuits. And if the crowd inside or the fact that they have a ticket system installed doesn't convince you of this, then you really should make a trip to this busy bakery to see for yourself. Forget mass-produced and learn to trust your tastebuds by ordering a selection of their delicious biscuits. A hot favourite with kids at parties, the crumbly bikkies, rich shortbreads with pistaschios and chocolate covered swirls will definitely leave you begging for more. But the crème de la crème at this mighty bakery has got to be its Tiramisu. A much-loved Italian favourite, the Tiramisu gets sold like hotcakes so if you're at Aviv and you see some, do yourself a favour and order it quick. I've been coming here since I was a kid and it's still one of the best cake shops around. I have so many favorites but when I come here I can't pass up on the mushroom cheese and caramalized onion quiche it's literally the best quiche I've ever had hands down. The ladies and gents who work here are always friendly and they make a decent coffee too. They're always busy any time of day so pick a number as soon as you walk in but you won't be waiting long they're pretty quick to serve everyone. read more

I gave this 5 stars because Aviv is a great bakery. But let's get something straight. These aren't anywhere near the best bagels in Melbourne. They aren't even the best in Elsternwick. And Aviv probably doesn't care at all. read more
