Best massage I've ever had. Pol the therapist gave an incredible massage. He had the perfect balance of relaxation techniques and working areas in my shoulders that needed work. He didn't do any small talk which I can't stand during a massage, and funny enough on their form you complete it specifically says no small talk. Funny and also wonderful! We booked two massages at the same time, but I think someone called out so they had to do them back to back, which meant my sister had to get a shorter than planned massage. This was a disappointment, but we asked if they could offer a discount for the shortened massage and they gave 15% off, which is appreciated. Wow. I am here on vacation and after completely destroying my body on the mountain I booked this massage because it was a great price and amazing reviews. We booked two 90 minute appointments for Friday as a reward after hiking all day Wednesday and Thursday. We had Gem and Stacey in individual rooms and we both enjoyed a fabulous massage. I had Gem who gave me a great relaxing massage finding my tight areas and relaxing them. I fully recommend the 90 minute massage with Gem and my husband fully recommends Stacey. What a great place, a great deal and great services. It is inside the Cigar shop, walk right inside the Cigar shop, it also has a barber shop in the front. Check in at the front desk, and fill out forms. The masseuses greeted us with full of smiles, and welcomed us upstairs. The place is clean and sells good with nice music. We got the 90 minutes massage, and it was so nice after running a marathon and skiing for a week. We checked out of our hotel and 11am, came for a massage until 1pm, then got lunch, and caught our shuttle back to Vancouver at 2:15pm. I love this place! Was looking for a decent massage after a day of skiing and found Aviva on Yelp. Raving reviews are warranted! Called by phone to make an appointment for 2, and they were to accommodate us for an evening session the same day. It is located inside the Whistler village. We parked at Lot 2 and the walk to Aviva was less than 5 minutes. Very unique set up. Downstairs is a barber and cigar shop. Upstairs is where the massage rooms were. Upon arrival we were asked to fill out waiver forms, which took less than 5 minutes. Price was $120 (before tax) for a 90 minute session. We were greeted by our masseuse shortly and taken to our individual rooms, which were relatively small but gets the job done. Lights were dimmed and relaxing music was playing in the background. They offer Swedish massage by default, which is what I got. You start with you back facing up and they work on your back, shoulders and hips. Pressure and placement was on point throughout! I think I dozed off several times! About halfway through the session, you turn around to face the ceiling and get your neck, arms, hands and legs worked on. The experience was excellent and very relaxing. Highly recommended! Keep in mind they do not have RMTs on staffed so work insurance will not cover this! I actually think my experience here is on par or even better than most of my experiences with RMTs in Vancouver. I will definitely be back! read more

I hate being touched by stranger, this super picky about my masseuse. Veronica turned out to be just what I was looking for, full body, not too fast, just enough pressure. More importantly, her hands are warm and every touch was heavenly. It's a no frills massage place, the reception desk is inside the barbershop and Cuban cigar shop. For the price, I was skeptical that this was going to be a less-than-great massage, but I was proven wrong! Katrina was a fantastic masseuse and made sure I was comfortable in every way possible, asking if the pressure was enough or too much, and offering a tissue when she noticed I was sniffling. The masseuses may not be "licensed" but that is typically because they were trained in their respective countries and the process of getting the paperwork in Canada is complicated. The one small complaint I would have is that the rooms are only separated by cloth, so if someone in the next room decides to talk, you can hear them very loudly. Unfortunately, this happened to me a couple times while I was there. However, that is not going to stop me from going back because the rest of the experience was so awesome! read more

Previously, I had written a review of a pretty negative experience I had with one of the masseurs at Aviva. The owner, Matt, was quick to respond and was very concerned about finding a solution. He immediately offered a complete refund. I was a little embarrassed about the whole thing and just wanted to forget about it, so I never took him up on his offer. However, four months later Matt followed up to let me know that the offending masseuse had been let go and again extended a refund. I wasn't given details, but I do have to respect that level of devotion to customer service. Danny at the shop called me personally to issue the refund. Ultimately, my sense is that my experience was not representative of the kind of business Aviva runs. Mistakes can happen and all you can hope is that things get corrected in the future. I feel Matt has done just that and thank all the gentleman at Aviva for treating me with respect and going the extra mile to make sure that we leave things on a positive note. :) read more

I gotta admit, I was a little worried. I booked a 60mins Massage, 2 hours before it took place, without really informing myself what Aviva is. The Massage Therapists there don't have the official professionals diploma.. or let me put it like this; since my masseuse was doing great, she must be a professional, but doesn't have the permission to work as such in canada, that's why it's so much cheaper. Don't get me wrong, they do have a working visa, they just don't have the little paper that says "you are aloud to call yourself a masseuse therapist in canada" but probably everywhere else they are. Never the less, it was really good. My Masseuse was "Michaela", she was veeeery nice and friendly and did a really good job. The ambiente is not exactly what I'm looking for, but since my eyes were closed as soon as I layed down, it was totally fine. To describe it a little: You go into this Barber Shop/Cigar Store, sign a paper, sit down on a - let's just call it Hipster - couch and wait. Then your therapists comes and takes you upstairs. The walls of each little massage room are put up with "blankets", so you're not supposed to talk to the masseuse, because someone else in another "room" could get disturbed. The music was good, everything else was very nice too. Only one thing bothered me: Somewhere in the building was a open window. Because it was a sunny day and early evening, many people were outside and I could hear them over the calm music. That was not as relaxing as I wanted it to be. But, as I said, everything else was great! All I wanted was a relaxation massage, which I got, I felt really good after and since I only paid 60 bucks, I was happy with what I got! If you are expecting a really high, luxurious and fancy level, this is not your place to go. If you're only there for the massage and you can get over the fact, that it's a rather chilled out place than a wellness palast, you're totally right here. I attempted skiing in Whistler and realized it wasn't for me. I had read online the great reviews and scheduled a massage ahead of time just in case. I went and had Anna as my massage therapist. She was very welcoming, responsive to my needs and did a great job. She asked if I liked soft or firm and I had replied with firm. It felt more like a deep tissue massage which is exactly what I usually get. She made sure I was comfortable the entire time. For short notice, this place was great and relaxing for the price. Yes, the price is really good but I would recommend paying a little extra for better services elsewhere. I don't know if you could even call what I got a massage -- it was a lot of shaking and no flow or rhythm. It was as if the masseuse had ADD. He would work on my lower back then my upper back then back to my lower back, even though I asked him to concentrate on my neck and upper back. Pretty sure this was the worst massage I've ever gotten. They also have a strange setup. The "spa", if you can even call it that, is combined with a barber and cigar shop. So strange. read more

It is definitely a no frills kind of place that is above the cigar shop (you enter through the cigar shop/barber shop, then the massage therapists take you upstairs). The room for the massage was small but comfortable with pleasant music. The massage therapist I had did an excellent job. I let him know that my neck and shoulders were where I wanted to focus and he did spend the majority of time on that. I left feeling great and extremely relaxed. At first I was a little hesitant as the spa shares space with a smoke shop and a barbershop, but the upstairs spa area is quiet and relaxing and the staff were excellent.
