I'm writing this on behalf of a friend who is a pensioner & has been coming to the Avoca for years. We quiet often catch up for dinner, usually having the salmon which is nice. One night we tried the steak & they were both very tough, Lucy replaced them with the salmon which was very appreciated. Bev has been sick so she thought she would try the steak again thinking it would good for her. Patrick asked the chef for a nice tender piece of steak for Bev. Big mistake, it was tough again, with a big piece of Grissle and fat. the salad was mixed lettuce leaves, no dressing. The chips were nice. My salmon was nice as usual. Bev called Patrick over & told him the steak was tough & showed him the salad. The salad was meant to be Pear & parmesan cheese. We found the tiniest bit of parmesan but I think the pear was still in the tree.only sorry I didn't think to take a photo of Bev's plate. I am Patrick came & told us THE CHEF WASN'T HAPPY. Excuse me he didn't pay $24. for a hand full of chips. There was no refund, no offer of a complimentary coffee or drink. We are extremely disappointed with the service & food & wouldn't recommend The Avoca. Lucy was always lovely and looked after us & it is a shame she doesn't seam to be there anymore. Delicious and though I wasn't the biggest fan of the interior decor in the main restaraunt I absolutely would love to try the front bar area in the future it contrasted directly with out area with beautiful foliage and a great outdoor area. Inside where we'd booked it was a bit old homesy in the part we sat at but who am I to judge, it's probably the style people who wear ties and blazers would feel the most comfortable in. The real winner for me tonight were the serving sizes, I got a side of veg, the asian style roasted sweet potato and onion medley that was larger than most mains I order at other places! I had a really large lunch so got the rest take away only to find myself sticking my fingers into the container on the way out to eat the rest (for shaaaame). They reallt nailed the food here and all four or us were incredibly happy with the quality of our meals. The staff were really friendly so easily one of my favourite pubs by far! Gets super busy on weekend nights so we had a little trouble booking, which is a good sign! read more

Now this is one really impressive pub. In fact the thing I like the most about this pub is the beer garden, otherwise known as 'The Decks', to the point that I am always tempted to stop off here when I am driving past for a drink, and normally I do. I actually don't think I have been beyond the decks because that part of the pub is simply really cool. The last time I was here I even noticed that they have craft beer on tap as well as a decent range of ciders (though I was really annoyed when my friend ordered the most expensive cider in the fridge, namely because it was my shout). I know that they have pokies and a sports bar, but they are in another building so they can be pretty much ignored. Oh, and they serve a pretty decent schnitzel as well. read more

Terrible place with terrible overpriced food. We came here as a group of 8 for a Dinner and not one of us received a decent meal. The schnitzels were tiny and dry and tasted like old Oil along with the chips that were served with it. The seafood platter was rubbery and chewy. The pizzas were cooked on a pita bread of sorts and lacked any flavour and again were TINY for $20+ The burgers were also very very small and had little flavour at all and the cheese wasn't even melted on the beef. Service was also lacklustre and when asking for a drink politely were made to feel like we were interrupting something. Toilets are filthy and stink and obviously haven't had any maintenance in a long time. And to top it off, one of the members of our party were asked to bring out the remaining bread baskets and water to our table which took two trips! Lifetime ban!! read more

The Avoca I've only been to this place a few times, surprising considering it has an appealing atmosphere with large open areas for both 'Clubbin' and 'Pubbin'. The reason I haven't been here frequently is because bizarre events always occur when I'm inside the Avoca. These weren't bad times, in fact some have been quite memorable. Last year it was an earthquake. Strangely enough nobody felt it at the time, but the morning after it was the talk of the town. Which leads to my first theory, The Avoca has shielding against natural disasters. Another time The bartender unknowingly poured me thrice the beer I ordered, he didn't notice my disbelief. Second theory: the Bartenders are generous. And finally when strolling toward this place an egg flew from a car and hit the ground just before me. The car stopped and out of the car sprang my half-nephew from interstate. I didn't even know he was in Adelaide and he was the type of person that threw eggs from cars. He apologized and returned to his 'egging mobile'. Third theory: He wasted an egg I on the other-hand enjoyed a gravylicious Schnitzel for lunch. Which are on special on Mondays and Tuesdays for $12. I'd see it as a worthy entry on the best Schintzel's Adelaide has to offer. read more

The Avoca, what can I say everytime I go I enjoy meals bigger than my ego and if you ask my friends and family, thats a huge meal the cost is quiet resonable and the food is always packed with flavour. The Avoca has recently introduced a loyalty program that takes the form of an app which pleases me greatly and makes for a great reason to go back. I have given The Avoca four out of five stars simply because I feel that star number five can only be earnt when meals come out quickly, that being said it has only been slow for me a few times an I dont mind waiting thirty minutes for a meal if it tastes as good as it always does If you have never tried The Avoca you are missing out on beautiful food, friendly and polite staff aswell a fantastic atmosphere. read more

The Avoca hotel is situated on the very busy South Rd in Edwardstown (that's the nearest train station anyhow!). The hotel features the usual front bar, bistro and allday bar and an out door area, as well as the standard Thirsty Camel next door. The area that makes the pub is the garden area, The Decks. It has huge tv, music and just a damn good atmosphere. I love the light water sprays on hot days that keep you cool. The hotel had a large range of beer, cider and wine and is average priced for all. The meals are very good, although I think they try and aim for the higher end of casual dining looking at the menu! They have special offers most days and one evening a week have a quiz night. Still a good pub to sit a relax in the summer and keep cool! read more

I went with a group of work friends for dinner, we went to the beer garden for a pre drink and my pregnant friend wanted to order a virgin mojito and the bar manager (unsure if he was a manager or team leader or whatever) wanted to charge her $15. When we asked why considering it's a VIRGIN mojito (literally soda water, lime and mint) he claimed it was about the time it took to make it not the ingredients. If you're looking for the worlds most expensive water head to the Avoca. What a fucking joke. read more

Chilled atmosphere and decent food. The restaurant has a nice chilled and intimate feel - great ambiance. While the food was nice, it took a reallllly long time to be served, however, they did bring out the kids meal quickly for the little one we were dining with. The word 'nice' is really what sums this place up - more than happy to go again, but not so much that I'm rushing to get there. read more

A revamped Avoka = a chill out spot for friends after a long days work or a great place to catch up for a birthday party. The latter in my case. It was my friends birthday and we got a great spot outside under the shades with plenty of seating for the 20+ people that arrived. She didn't have to reserve or pay an exorbitant price and the staff were in the ball when it came to getting rid of the old glasees and bringing out food. The food was all reasonably priced - we had some wedges which came with a good serving of sour cream and sweet chilli sauce and wine (of course) which was selected from a good range of SA suppliers. While not in an ideal place for a wander after your meal, the Avoca is central and easy to get to if it's not peak hour. It's spacious and the new areas are bright and full of atmosphere with big comfy chairs that you can move around as you please. I'll definitely be going back! read more

Review Booked to have dinner at the Avoca for Valentine's Day. When we got there we were left waiting without any recognition for a while. Considering the restaurant was 70% empty there was no excuse. After some time a staff member finally acknowledged us only to keep working and leave us waiting. Once we finally got seated we were left for 20 minutes waiting without a bottle of water being put on the table, bread rolls served or drinks and food order being taken. Tables after us were getting water and orders taken. It was almost comical waiting to see how long they would take before finally serving us. After having waited for this long we walked out. I have never received such poor service and I certainly will not be returning read more

Lunch with friends Queen's Birthday. 5 people. Good to average pub food, had chicken curry, pepper squid and mushroom pizza. Mushroom Pizza was awful. Made with Champignon mushrooms!!!! Was advertised as Swiss Brown. Staff when quizzed on this appeared confused and unapologetic. read more

We were very excited to have dinner here as we do love the beer garden and is perfect for a group of 4 people. But unfortunately this time, we left disappointed. Usually, we have a brilliant time when just catching up over drinks, but decided to do dinner as well. 2x of our meals came out COLD, 1x was steak which was cooked well done - even though he asked for medium rare. This didn't help with the fact that we waited an hour to get our food so were starving. We were going to take the cold meals back to the kitchen but we were so hungry from waiting for so long, we just ate it. I did have the squid though which was AMAZING. I think my meal was the only one that was cooked perfectly. Lucky me! read more

A great place to go for a drink and food. The price's are on average and have special day. There is a large outside area in the pub which is great and has many t.v for entertainment. Great atmosphere. Also have water sprays to keep you cool. read more

Good pub, well designed and good location. It has it's great nights and not so great nights. I have eaten there a lot and food can be amazing and come out quickly one night and take hours and come out average the next night. read more
