Found another Avoca and this time it's at the Malahide Castle foodhall and cafe. Yes, I purchased more fudge and will be stocked until I'm able to come back and restock my inventory. Had some tea and a slice of carrot cake while my BFF had a cup of tea and the Portuguese tart. Everything was great. We decided to stop by for some food while visiting the malahide castle. I ordered the vegan burger and it was soo good. I'm so used to vegan burgers being processed in the states, but this one doesn't come with a bun but is a mash up of sweet potatoes, onion, black beans and seasoning. It was delicious! Have been visiting Avoca cafes for over 25 years whenever we stop home and have mixed reviews over the last several years. This stop demonstrated all I look for in their Cafe with the variety, flavors and portion sizes back to their high standards. Soup was amazing, their salads generous and flavorful! This cafe and store is a new addition to Malahide castle and what a wonderful place this is to visit. The first thing i came across was a whack it bear that you bashed against the wall when angry or frustrated and i thought great idea! The prices here are very expensive and if i had a bottomless credit card i would definitely run amok here but sadly i don't. They had ornamental high Nellie bikes, wonderful pictures, ravishing cakes and breads. Even the cans of lemonade were €1.65 but came in fancy cans. There were clothes, and lot more to browse and wish you needed but don't. I did buy some cheese and seeded scones which were 2 for 1 but as i wouldn't usually pay €1.85 for one scone, it was the big steal of the day! read more

Great upmarket selection from home furnishings to gourmet food to clothes. I got a rocky road slice and fizzy ginger beer from the cafe which were excellent. However, it took over 10 minutes to pay at the counter. One of the staff member who just finished her work shift, cut in the queue to pay for her bottle of water, while the other tried to figure out how to apply the discount on the till while the rest of the real customers waited... Holy crap! People back home told me about the gift store, but the cafe is what really stood out to me. It was the most fun/best cafe I'd ever been to. There are a million choices and they're all creative. I got some curry chicken wrap and a salmon sandwich. It was delicious. I could spend hours in this store. They have everything! The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it's too expensive for me to actually buy anything... Where to start? Popped in to the cafe on my first visit to Malahide Castle and Gardens to grab a scone and a drink. We didn't sit in the cafe area, but just grabbed something for take away and sat outside as it was a beautiful day. The scone was delicious. I also treated myself to a little puff of merengue. Mmm!! Everything is fresh made. The second time I went, we had much more time to browse the store. The cozy sweaters, the blankets and beautiful wool scarfs. I wanted to buy everything! It was fall and all their displays were gorgeous. Tea cups, books, trinkets, specialty foods, baby things. They really do have something for everybody. This time I got a hot chocolate and, of course, another delicious scone. The hot chocolate was really yummy too and I got marshmallows and a little Flake on top. Yum! read more

This Avoca is set in the courtyard of the castle and Demense. The café is huge yet always seems to be jammers!! I think each Avoca must do different coffees. The coffee here is decent. My usual favourite here is the jam and cream scone or a slice of baked cheesecake. The grounds of the castle are ideal to walk that off after! This place is adorable with really great stuff and great staff! We came here after doing a castle tour and picked up some desserts as we both have a sweet tooth. They were very friendly and this store has EVERYTHING, from soups to take home dinners and gifts. We got cheesecakes and they were both pretty bland in taste, but we can appreciate the look as they were very cute and pretty to look at. read more

"Poor compared to its sister locations" I have been to many Avoca locations from Rathcoole, kilmacanogue, Monkstown and Suffolk street and I find this location to be pretty poor. The reason in my view is the staff. The food is the same wonderful fare but the staff let it down. We were there this weekend and the pkace was full we sat at one of the large communal tables while wait staff waited for the plates to empty pounce and clear. Very uncomfortable after spending 60 euro for sandwich coffee and desert. I wont go back go this location again. I will stick with one of the others read more

Disappointing experience. When having a sit down breakfast, I ordered a small coffee recently in a small cup as I like strong coffee. In Ireland two shots of coffee is standard regardless of cup size. Here the barista let one shot fill the coffee cup and let the other shot go down the drain!!!! When I questioned this I was told that if I wanted two shots I would have to pay for a large coffee!! I'm still baffled by this mentality & waste!! I have to say, I absolutely LOVE this place. Every location of Avoca's I've ever been to has been fab, and this place doesn't disappoint either. I've only been once on a sunday afternoon, so I don't know what it's like during the week. You arrive, get your food through the buffet style food hall, and pick your table. I was there around lunch time with about 7 other girls, and we were able to find a table okay despite the place being busy. And even though it was busy, and there were loads of families with kids and buggies, there was still enough space to get around. It didn't feel overcrowded. I ordered the superfood wrap, and it was so delicious. I didn't get any sides with it, just the wrap, and I was quite full when I left. The other thing I love about this place is that no one ever seems to be in a rush to get you out of there. So you can sit and enjoy your food, have a chat, and not feel like you need to hurry up and go. I also love the garden/lawn area that the outdoor area overlooks when the weather is nice enough to sit outside. Now, don't get me wrong, the view is definitely not as nice as Avoca at Powerscourt, but still quite relaxing and nice. Some people say that the prices are expensive, and yes - if you get a full hot entree it can be. But you can get a wrap/sandwich for about 8-9 euros, they have salads, and other food options that are not as expensive. That being said, the amount of food you get with the full entrees is so large. My husband and I usually just split an entree when we go and leave plenty full. So, all in all - great place to catch up with friends, great for a rainy day indoors, the food is fab... plus you're in a castle!! read more

I had lunch here after a trip to the Malahide Castle and it was quite satisfying. As pictured, I got myself a Spinach Quiche and some of their Salads. The serving size is so big I was struggling to finish it all. The Mocha I had with my lunch was lovely and probably one of the best I've had in a long time. Avoca is always a great spot for a bit of lunch. We had the pate with crispy brioche bites and pickles and the chicken and leek pie with salads. Left us feeling full and satisfied. Bit on the pricey side. But we always share and always leave some on the plate even when sharing. Portions are huge! There's a good selection of sandwiches soups salads and pies and bits so choice is plentiful. The grounds in which this particular avoca is on is the perfect location as you can go for a nice walk and grab a coffee or cake to go. OMG the cakes how did I forget... Amazing! You can get large portions if you've guests at home or a single slice. They also do a deal for coffee or tea and a sweet to take away which is good. The scones are also yum. You're also surrounded by a fantastic shop with everything you want to own for your kitchen. Items can be pricey but sure why not treat yourself once in a while... This large, bright, sun bathed eatery was bustling this Sunday afternoon, with almost every table being used. We managed to find a cozy table to sit and enjoy our Cajun Chicken wraps with our pot of tea. The restaurant is cafeteria like, grab a tray and select your food...wraps, salads, hot dishes, buttermilk pancakes, porridge, soups, crusty baguettes stuffed egg salad, tuna, and homemade soups. The desserts not only look luscious and tempting, but are fresh and are the perfect finish to a lovely lunch or dinner. Avoca is a store with a little bit of everything from retail store to takeaway and sit down restaurant. Nice little treat on the weekend, albeit a little too busy, but a visit during the week is much quieter and less crowded. read more

The food here is very good but it's seriously expensive. I used to enjoy going here for a coffee but I find it is overrun with kids now and I'm always on edge walking to my table with the tray in case a child runs into me! I recently had soup which was €6 and a lunch is about €15. They have started doing nice smaller savoury tarts now which is a great idea when you don't want a large heavy meal. But the place and the experience has gone downhill a lot unfortunately. read more

One of the best meals I had in Ireland! After winding my way through a huge store area, the self-service cafe at Avoca produces some of the freshest, tastiest food in Ireland. I went with a friend to see malahide castle and then we went for tea and cake in avoca cafe. The food looked really good but we went for a dessert so i had coffee cake and earl gray tea and my friend had breakfast tea and apple pie. I didnt like my cake at all, it was dry, way too sweet that it killed the coffee taste and both of the teas we had were Barely which has no taste ( very bad tea). My friend said the pie was ok-ish but definitely not worth 16 € we paid. read more

Although there are many Avoca locations throughout the Dublin area and further afield, they all are very consistent, in both food and service. I had lunch here at the Malahide location and had a very delicious salmon with vegetable salads, along with a chocolate eclair and tea later on. I went out with my family to celebrate Father's Day ahead of the actual day. I was quite taken aback from the grounds. Absolutely lovely. I had been here at the Castle as a kid. However that said, we all went tot he restaurant. My folks had a Chicken Pie and Salad each and I had just plain salad. My sis had Chicken Caesar's Salad and Soup. I'll just review MY meal for the purpose of this review. I found my salad VERY strong, which is quite abnormal if you ask me. When I arrived with my folks and my sister, we were met with a busy restaurant, which is a touristy spot. However the layout of the food which I was told in advance, was so confusing. My mom asked for Vegetarian dish for me, the woman told me twice and I STILL didn't understand what she was saying. She was completely Irish no bother, I just didn't understand what she was selling. As far as I gather all I could see was just salad. Yet my sister got soup. She told me it was very well hidden. I could gather that myself, cause I couldn't see nor site of it. As my Mom couldn't finish her Salad meal, I finished. It wasn't as bad as mine, but still tasted very "weird". My mom went to explain the oils they use something like that. And for the exorbitant price of €68 for 4 ppl and the above food plus two soft drinks???? read more
