Their prices are really reasonable, often cheaper than the big DIY shops.

It is nice to actually have a conversation with someone in one of these shops without being bombarded with technical information and being pressurised to buy something. Prices are marginally higher than Curry's Digital, but you are getting a much more personal service. Bonus: they have heaps of off road parking (which if you are familiar with Gloucester Road is a real selling point!).

I certainly wouldn't usually consider buying spares or having anything repaired here. I'm far too fond of Bobs Best Electricals and Beacon Electronics to willingly take my trade anywhere else. If it weren't for the recommendation I'd been given by the chap from Bristol Tools, who suggested that I try Nailsea Electrical to see if they stocked belts for my old Hotpoint Twin Tub, then I would never have thought to pay them a visit. He of course, suggested that I tried Bob's Best and Beacon first, but I explained that I'd phoned them both already, and neither one of them had anything in stock. Sharing the same level of reservation that I had, he gingerly suggested going to Nailsea Electrical, on the basis that I had nothing to lose. Ben dealt efficiently with my enquiry, and quickly told me that Nailsea Electrical never keep old items like this is stock on the grounds that there is very little call for it. Consulting a large catalogue he continued by saying that they no longer made the belt that I was looking for. He broke the news apologetically and then turned his gaze back to the catalogue. Stabbing at the page with his index finger in a triumphant gesture he announced, "but this'll do it". He said it with such conviction that I was instantly convinced he was right, and so I ordered it on the spot. A few days later I got a call from the shop to tell me that it had arrived, and I called in a couple of days later to collect. I've been washing non-stop ever since!

I love the fact that they have a website too as I can't always get over to the other side of Bath and delivery is reasonable and quick. I'd rather visit the store though as I often spend more money online! It's a family run business and I think that's what makes it a winner. Always good to support local independent traders.

They also sell strimmers, scarifiers, hedge trimmers, shredders, electric mowers (and all sorts of other mowers - including those big 'sit-on' lawn tractors that everyone would love to play on), and lots of other garden equipment. They deal with both domestic customers and commercial customers, which means they have some seriously expensive equipment as well as more reasonably priced stuff for everyday domestic gardeners. While you could nip down B&Q for a new lawnmower, these people can offer you far better choice and expert advice, plus free local delivery and full instructions on how to operate all the kit they sell. They are service agents for everything they sell, which means back-up is guaranteed. And should you buy a heavyweight petrol machine, they fully assemble and fill them with the correct grade oil and fuel before you get them, and they start, tune and test before they hand them over to you.

Step ladders, wheel barrows and more hardcore drilling and digging equipment has over flowed onto the streets outside. They do sell other power tool brands now including, Dewalt, Bosch, Hitachi and Milwaukee. As a trades person myself It's great to have a physical point of contact when it comes to something so essential to your work. They seem to stock endless amounts of other tools and stock pretty much all the top brands as well as some of the more budget brands too. I've often found some very obscure tools, drill bits or blades that I would not have know existed if it wasn't for the treasure trove of bell tools. They are always extremely helpful with trades people as well as members of the general public who perhaps arent so clued up about what they need. Prices vary and if you're going in with something in mind it may be worth checking how much you should be paying first. I've found items that are cheaper here than anyway online, but also found things that seemed a little high. They always tried to be as competitive as they can though.

Services include key cutting and blade sharpening, although if you bought your tools from here you won't need to use the latter so often. All of them are made using the finest steel and come replete, in most instances, with finely crafted wooden handles; there's no shonky steel and badly matching plastic moulded handles at this store - you'll have to go to Rajani's for those.

One of the things that really sets this shop out above the rest for me is how it is customer focussed in every sense. Their priority is getting you what you need. If they don't have what you want, for example, they'll call other hardware shops in Bristol before ordering it in. If they do have to order it in, it's always within 24 hours. The guys here are also very proud that they haven't 'sold out' to specialise in power tools. Like many businesses in the area they keep it traditional, local and very hands on.
