I came to the Avon Gardens for their Spring-palooza and got to tour the gardens along with the art fair and plant sale. They sell tons of plants from the decorational, to herbs and veggies! They were selling herb plants for $4 and veggies for $5, which is a good price for the 12-18" stalk of the plant you get, and of a very healthy quality. The peonies were in full bloom and they have so many beautiful varieties! The garden path is generally well shaded and has a variety of benches - my favorite is the butterfly! I am not sure if there is an entry fee under normal operations, but they do host weddings on site, with outdoor ceremony space and an indoor reception house. read more

This business is under new ownership and the staff have been working so hard during the off-season to make the gardens even more beautiful than they already were. I've loved getting to attend their events, including Spring Palooza with all the beautiful peonies and Art in the Gardens Festival with so many different vendors selling homemade goods. I love buying my plants at Avon Gardens rather than big box stores because I know I'm getting a better quality plant + supporting local business. This garden hosts workshops, and while I haven't had the chance to attend any yet, I can't wait to because based on the conversations I've had with the owner and other employees, they are so incredibly knowledgeable. If those weren't enough reasons to visit, you'll definitely want to go in order to meet their sweet garden cats! P.S. Avon Gardens is a wonderful place as a wedding venue or just to walk around or shop for your garden! My best friend had her wedding here and it was a beautiful event. She had over 200 people attend and it didn't feel like it since there's a lot of space. We felt taken care of and it went smoothly. It was fun to stroll around the grounds during the reception and had multiple opportunities for cute pictures. Just be sure to ask ahead since it books quickly! They have multiple events during the year like a cutting flowers during the late summer. It's a nice hidden gem in the western suburbs! read more

I love visiting Avon Gardens whether to walk around for inspiration or to purchase perennials in the spring and summer for my yard. Many of the plants they sell are planted somewhere among their many flower beds. Luckily, I have seen mature perennials before purchasing so I can see how large, or small, they become with age. In the Spring, the plants begin filling the nursery and are available till August. The plants (annuals and perennials) are good quality with a wide variety of plants, trees and shrubs. Other decorative items are available for your yard or fence. Be sure to stop by when you begin your 2023 planting season. I signed up for a Walking Tour of the grounds today and thoroughly enjoyed learning the history of the grounds, names and care of many plants and trees as well as some high level wedding information. As the grounds developed, people asked for outdoor weddings and they have become a mainstay here. They hold 3 - 4 plus weddings per week depending on the size of the wedding. If you're considering an outdoor wedding, check out Avon Gardens. The weddings are along the lake and a beautiful reception area among the gardens. Karen, the owner, grew up on this farm. It was a pig farm 150 years ago and Karen inherited this farm a little over 30 years ago. She began plowing under the pig farm and then landscaping small sections at a time for her personal enjoyment. Long story short, after an enormous amount of work, time and patience the property has become the phenomenal grounds and amazing nursery we've all come to love. This is one of my favorite grounds and nurseries. Avon Gardens is just off of 10th and 267 (Avon Ave.) Call for the hours as they change as it gets later in the season. The landscape here is so beautiful. You can just walk through the fields and take in all the beautiful scenery. I attended their build a garden garden class. Everything was very affordable, you had full control on what you wanted in your garden from annuals, indoor plants, and herbs. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful on how to put things together in your garden that made sense. The quality of product was very good as well! read more

Wow! This place is unreal! They sell flowers and other types of gardening and decor for the outdoors. It's also a wedding venue, which is why I came. It's cute and there are a ton of flowers to look at and take pictures by. It's a very picturesque place. There's so much to look at even though it's not super huge. There are also lots of places to sit and hidden parts. Very cool! read more

We attended a wedding at this venue where the employees cleaned off all the sunglasses on the tables (that was the party favor but white glasses). I asked the employee working and he said he put the 2 black pair (which were mine and my boyfriends) in the basket with the free white pairs. I called and spoke to an employee there later and they said no one recalls anything and we spoke to that employee and he never saw anything. I don't like how stories change after calling and speaking to this business. Poor service. Beautiful venue just make sure you keep your personal items on you at all times. read more

Knowing how difficult it can be to maintain a good looking lawn, I marvel at the places like Avon Gardens that not only design beautiful landscapes, but maintain them! The grounds are worth visiting even if you aren't making a purchase from their large selection of plantings and garden architectural features. Probably more than half of their property is designed and you can walk through to get ideas for possibilities. Doesn't matter if it is for a water area or a wooded area, maybe just something around your house. They have beautiful options on site to inspire you. And the pricing on the pieces of garden accessories I was looking at seemed very reasonable. There was a wide array of plants too, but I usually don't like setting things out until May, so this was more of a reconnaissance trip to see what was there. Sure, you can get cheap plants at the big box stores and watch the spindly things struggle to look good. But why not talk with the folks here and get expert advice and high quality plants that give you the best chance of doing it right the first time? Glad to have this place on my radar! We visited Avon Gardens after learning it was a good place to take prom pictures if there isn't a wedding. It was pouring so we headed there. They charge after having a bunch of kids trash the area but when we got there, they said we didn't have to pay because we wouldn't have much opportunity due to the weather. Boy were they wrong. This place is amazing and pretty. They had areas for pictures under tents. They had backdrops, trees, flowers, a pond, creek, everything. It was beautiful!! The staff was pretty awesome as well. My daughter and new son-in-law just had their wedding and reception at Avon Gardens. Everything was wonderful from the planning, setup, flexibility to most importantly, the staff. Everything was accounted for per the specific plans and all staff members were so helpful. The grounds were gorgeous and accessible with beautiful lighting after dark. The garden stroll heading into the reception area was impressive and talked about by all. What great ambiance for the fun party and gives younger ones something to keep them occupied. First off, this place is beautiful and continues to make improvements. Over the year that passed from when we booked the venue to the date of our wedding, several new structures were built and decorations added. It is truly gorgeous. You need to provide minimal decorations yourself -- we just brought a few things for the tables. This place is a well-oiled wedding machine. There are pros and cons to this. Pros: They know what they're doing. They have plans A, B, and C covered. They've done this a zillion times and they know what can go wrong and what to look out for. You definitely feel like they have everything under control during the rehearsal and the wedding day itself. You don't have to think about or worry about anything. This is invaluable. Cons: Sometimes I felt like just another money-making bride being thrown into the machine. Communication is sometimes weak, especially if your wedding date is not approaching soon. If you are trying to plan ahead for your wedding, it can be tough to get in touch with anyone from the venue until you are about a month or so away -- I assume this is because they are busy with other brides and not ready to focus on your wedding yet. I had periods of time where my emails went unanswered for 40-50 days, or when I (for example) scheduled a rehearsal on the phone and then later got an email asking when I'd like to schedule my rehearsal. That part can be frustrating. Overall though I would recommend this venue. It is pricey but worth it. Certainly the most gorgeous and convenient place I have ever seen for a wedding and I was lucky to have mine there. read more

Avon Gardens is a lovely setting just north of Avon and south of Brownsburg. My wife and I visited looking for some trees and the staff was helpful and we were able to purchase what we wanted. Later Steve came out with his team and did a great job planing the trees for us. This is when the wheels came off. Pleased with the service we received we made arrangements for Karen to come and help us plan the landscaping in the front of our new Avon home. It took multiple calls to get Karen to come and then nothing. After several calls I gave up. We never received a call saying that they couldn't make it, or sorry we will be back to you - just nothing. Probably a great place to get married. Great place to visit for a lovely garden setting. But don't plan on using their design and planting services because they have no ability to schedule their work or any idea of what customer service is all about unless you are getting married and then it is likely quite good. Didn't want to get married, just wanted some darn plants! read more

I had my wedding at Avon Gardens in May 2015. The venue was absolutely wonderful - more beautiful than I could have imagined! They were very responsive through email so I had minimal anxiety about the venue in the weeks approaching the wedding. They have you bring all your decorations to your rehearsal and set them up so there's no work for the couple or family on the day of the wedding. We had a misunderstanding with the florist and the venue stepped in to help us with that situation with no extra cost, and the result was beautiful. We found them to be very reasonably priced compared to other venues in the area, with fewer restrictions - for example, there's no catering requirement, which was really important to us. We also did not hire a professional wedding bartender, but had an open bar with a couple of people tending the bar who had some experience. They were happy to set up the bar for us and provided ice throughout the evening, and we only had to purchase liquor liability insurance ($150). I would absolutely recommend this venue highly to anyone interested in an outdoor wedding! read more
