Jurassic Park the musical still has tickets available at the time of writing this review, so do yourself a favor and grab them! Fair warning, this show is not for children. Only good if you have money and have been there a long time…read more.. the place is firstly, expensive. Tuition for SELECT is 200+ a MONTH!!! For two days a week! All of the costumes- 100 each, makeup and hair- 100, shoes- 200!!! The Fusion dance camp costs are well into 1000 for one week, and are MANDATORY for those competing!! We haven't even gotten to fees! For those unfamiliar, it is a family studio, everyone has know everyone forever! As someone new, I felt embarrassed and out of place completely! The people talk behind your back and even had issues where people had to step in..... The place is LOUD and unless you went in person to the place, the schedules online are super confusing!!! The teachers placed top priority on the students THEY liked, aka, who's there longest and who dances the best. I barely improved and learned being there for a year, I learned more watching YouTube videos and had better flexibility stretching on my own. Classes are slow and teachers talk super quietly in class yet scream when they are outside! It is a beautiful studio and a wonderful place, but the people! AGHHHH! I was stuck in the back to walk and pose for my jazz, tap, lyrical and hip hop numbers. The only place I felt truly challenged was Mr.Kevins ballet and Mr.Pauls Acro classes. And don't think your getting all the best choreography. Maddie Ziegler at 8 years old could perform the teen girls (14/15) jazz, over pass the lyrical and tap, EASILY. Those top choreographers? Yeah, only the top get them. The 17 year olds who are the most advanced and have been there the longest or the families that pay the most! I would have gone anywhere else or started earlier or just take tech, ballet and Acro. Watch out!

Sunday, May 17, 2026. Broadway In Detroit - #BroadwayInDetroit - The #FisherTheatre and more! and…read moremore! Detroit. #hamilton I have been planning this moment since I'd been informed that Hamilton was coming back in March -- and I don't think I fully understood the depths of my devotion to making it happen until I saw my mother's face. She had surgery just days before. She couldn't clap too hard. None of that stopped her from being completely, uncontainable, childlike giddy. It is not often that adult children get to see their parents that way -- eyes dancing, joy uncontained. I got to see it Sunday night. The cast -- predominantly Black and brilliant. Culturally, that matters deeply to me and my former Black Panther mother. I want to be clear, however: everyone on that stage gave everything. The dancers. The vocals. The lighting. The set. Collective excellence. That's what live performance does -- it doesn't let you just watch. It makes you witness. And then there's the #FisherBuilding itself. I love theatres. I see grand architecture as art. Every time I enter a building -- big or small -- I stop at the door and take it all in. The Fisher is what I imagine true opulence looks like: 40 kinds of marble, crystal and bronze, green terra cotta tiles, light that gives the whole space a warm, illuminated gold effect -- earning its name as "Detroit's largest art object." The staff moved with the same coordinated energy as the performers. Dennis (Head Usher and my old Detroit Opera House colleague) greeted me with a big hug and put Mommie in her wheelchair with care, walking her straight to dashing security -- who told her she looked like royalty -- an African Queen. Raul was assigned to her for the entire night and showed up like family. The bartenders argued -- warmly, playfully -- over who got to take care of her. And I cannot even discuss all of the examples of kindness from the patrons to me and each other, because this post will be longer than it already is. The usher at the door walked me through my QR code, and managed that entire line with authority and warmth. I told my sisters -- watching our mother's face glow that night, opened something in me I cannot name. I am addicted now. Addicted to chasing that look on their faces. For as long as I have breath and means, I will keep finding ways to put you all in rooms that make your eyes dance. Some nights just settle into you differently. This is one of them. Thank you, Fisher Theatre for giving me one of those nights.

The building was open so we could line up early. The theater team were very nice about that. I like the Emagine movie theater chain and appreciate that they went to all recliner seating. Some also have heat, which is needed because they keep their theaters very cool. We viewed the film in their big EMAX theater - it's a great viewing and listening experience. My only beef with Emagine is that their concession teams don't always fill your popcorn bucket. Not to get all Falling Down on folks (keeping to the theater theme) but it would be nice to be served what is advertised. ‍ Alas, I'll be back. The Romeo Theatre has been on my list of old school theaters to visit for a while now and I managed…read moreto get to it before the Grim Reaper shutters the place. The owner still hadn't set a hard date for closing when I visited last week but is saying September so if you read this soon you might be able to hit last call at Ye Olde Cinema. It's strip mall location might not have the romance of a classic stand alone single auditorium theater but there is a thrift store just a stone's throw away and hey, business owners have to work with what they can get. Two theaters give this a little variety and it definitely doesn't feel like a multiplex. The popcorn is much ballyhooed to the point they sell it to go for folks who don't even want to buy a movie ticket and they're discussing doing pop ups with the popcorn machine after this 40 year old institution goes the way of the dodo. I found it better than most but nothing out of this world either. It scores high with the butter but the kernel size is smallish with more crumbs than you'd usually find. I do greatly appreciate Romeo Theatre offers a small popcorn and drink combo at a cheap price. All the corporate multiplexes charge nearly the same price for a small drink and popcorn as they do for a large combo leading me to gouge myself on more unhealthy snacks than I'd otherwise consume and oftentimes throwing so many leftovers in the trash bin. My last trip to Emagine I took my 3/4 full monstrous cardboard popcorn bucket home with me, put tinfoil over it and it lasted several more nights by which point it was far from appetizing. No such nonsense like that here though. Admission was reasonable, too. I'd already seen The Odyssey and I knew the end here was nearing so I opted to see The Brink of War, a misnamed talkfest starring a miscast Jeff Daniels as Ronald Reagan and the always excellent Jared Harris having a second go as a Russian as Gorbachev. I think the filmmakers got Gorbachev a little confused with Khrushchev as Gorbie lost his composure and pounded the table 4 or 5 different times. It wasn't the worst movie though it wasn't the most subtle at giving propaganda at certain points. As other reviewers have noted cup holders attached to the seat in front of you can pose potential problems but even with the eminent closure I had no problem finding a spot with an empty seat in front of me. Everyone in that theater less than a third full looked like they could remember the principal characters in that Iceland summit. I'm glad I made the trek out past 30 Mile though I might be kicking myself if a much more appealing film gets shown before the lights dim here for the last time.
