The Fisher is the absolute best. The volunteer staff are so helpful and friendly; they really know their stuff. I especially like that they help us line up and get through the restrooms and back in our seats during the intermission. Everything was spotless and had a beautiful holiday vibe; lots of bars throughout so no wait in line, and even getting in and out of the surface lot only took about 10 minutes. We each had a lovely Moscow mule and the show was fantastic. We were in the "penthouse" as the volunteers call it, and even up there, we had a great view and beautiful sound. Also, the retail shops on the first floor were open, so you could do a little shopping before or after the show; I think we'll go even earlier next time to take it all in. This place has such grace and elegance, I always enjoy every time I go to see a show there. I haven't really been in a bad seat it's just all depends on what I'm watching. We were downtown for New Year's Eve and on January 2 there was a show called "Shucked" so we took a chance to go to the theater for just to round out the week and the seats we got were up in the upper balcony for $80 apiece and the woman in front of me said she bought tickets for $134 apiece. I bought mine a couple months ahead of time so maybe that is the trick to it and I did buy the tickets on Ticketmaster. The show was very entertaining and all of the actors were very talented so I would definitely recommend this and if you scan the parking structure right next to the Fisher Theatre, you get free parking when you come inside. read more

The Fisher Theatre continues to produce wonderful nights out to experience Broadway in Detroit! Midtown is a wonderful area. There are many parking options in the area including the adjacent garage. The WIZ ended their recent run here. It was such a wonderful reproduction of the original WIZ featuring Stephanie Mills as Dorothy. This new cast had wonderful voices. Actress Dana Cimone as Dorothy brought it when singing "Home." It was also her birthday! The 2025-2026 Season has been released. I look forward to seeing Beauty & The Beast (October) and Alicia Keys' Hell's Kitchen (December). This is a great theater and very intimate. I've never had a bad seat here and I've visited numerous times. Detroit. #hamilton I have been planning this moment since I'd been informed that Hamilton was coming back in March -- and I don't think I fully understood the depths of my devotion to making it happen until I saw my mother's face. She had surgery just days before. She couldn't clap too hard. None of that stopped her from being completely, uncontainable, childlike giddy. It is not often that adult children get to see their parents that way -- eyes dancing, joy uncontained. I got to see it Sunday night. The cast -- predominantly Black and brilliant. Culturally, that matters deeply to me and my former Black Panther mother. I want to be clear, however: everyone on that stage gave everything. The dancers. The vocals. The lighting. The set. Collective excellence. That's what live performance does -- it doesn't let you just watch. It makes you witness. And then there's the #FisherBuilding itself. I love theatres. I see grand architecture as art. Every time I enter a building -- big or small -- I stop at the door and take it all in. The Fisher is what I imagine true opulence looks like: 40 kinds of marble, crystal and bronze, green terra cotta tiles, light that gives the whole space a warm, illuminated gold effect -- earning its name as "Detroit's largest art object." The staff moved with the same coordinated energy as the performers. Dennis (Head Usher and my old Detroit Opera House colleague) greeted me with a big hug and put Mommie in her wheelchair with care, walking her straight to dashing security -- who told her she looked like royalty -- an African Queen. Raul was assigned to her for the entire night and showed up like family. The bartenders argued -- warmly, playfully -- over who got to take care of her. And I cannot even discuss all of the examples of kindness from the patrons to me and each other, because this post will be longer than it already is. The usher at the door walked me through my QR code, and managed that entire line with authority and warmth. I told my sisters -- watching our mother's face glow that night, opened something in me I cannot name. I am addicted now. Addicted to chasing that look on their faces. For as long as I have breath and means, I will keep finding ways to put you all in rooms that make your eyes dance. Some nights just settle into you differently. This is one of them. We had so much fun seeing & Juliet! It was a blast. I had this musical on my bucket list, and got tickets closer to the time it came to the Fisher, but I liked my seats. We really can only afford nose-bleed, but I was able to score some middle seats on the aisle, so we could look down onto the stage and see all of the details. We were also able to visit the Fisher lounge this time, which was on my theater going bucket list, and it lived up to the pampering I had hoped for. We were greeted by a very kind server who was super attentive the entire visit. We had a violet cocktail and a refreshed mocktail. We got candied almonds, but also treated ourselves to their yummy pretzel and charcuterie board. We loved the board so much, I even bought some fromage d'affinier that weekend at the Eastern Market, it was so buttery and good. I loved having the private restroom area, it makes it so much easier. We were also able to come back for their intermission dessert, which was a lovely spread of small cakes and brownie bites. I loved the decor of the lounge and enjoyed being at the theater so much. I really hope to come back to the lounge again and have a perfect theater evening again soon. read more

PLAYGOERS BEWARE: $330+ HAMILTON STUBHUB TICKETS DENIED ENTRY AT FISHER THEATER I wanted to share this as a heads-up for anyone planning to see Hamilton at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit, especially if you're using a ticket purchasing platform like StubHub. On 5/1/26 I purchased tickets to see Hamilton using StubHub- the tickets were for the 8pm, 5/2/26 show. When we arrived and presented our tickets to the ushers, we were told our tickets had "already been scanned" and were directed to the ticket booth. Initially I wasn't overly concerned and expected that this was a glitch and something that would quickly be remedied. However that wasn't the case and this was not an isolated incident. 3 women ahead of us received the same "already been scanned" alert when trying to enter the theater and were turned away from the ticket booth without any apology, remedy or explanation. This suggests something larger may be going on, whether related to duplicate tickets or a broader breakdown in how these situations are handled. When we spoke to the ticket desk it was clear that there was no protocol for investigating duplicate scans, no effort to acknowledge that multiple guests were being affected at the same time, and no meaningful guidance offered on what to do next. Instead the blame was placed solely on Stubhub and we were told "it isn't a Fisher Theater problem". Did we receive new tickets? No. Were we offered tickets for a different show? No. Instead when I tried to ask questions and understand what was happening, the situation escalated to the point where security was called and we were escorted out. Note that the ticket booth has a partition between them and guest- at no point did I lose my temper, make threats or name call- however I was persistent in asking they give me a written explanation that I could share with Stubhub- and this persistence was evidently scary and threatening enough for the Manager to call security and escort me out. The Fisher Theater had no intention to help me avoid further fraud from Stubhub, instead they treated me like the problem. That part, more than anything, is what has stayed with me. There are not many other events in Detroit that demand such a premium for ticket sales. What we paid for the evening, not including childcare and transportation, would result in top-notch customer service at almost any other Detroit venue. I have never seen Hamilton live. This was suppose to be a great night. I used part of my bonus to fund the tickets and couldn't be more excited for a fancy night on the town with my husband to celebrate hard work and a play we've waited years to see. To be in such a lavish setting and treated with such disregard showed a lack of training, compassion and class. Shame on you Fisher Theater- do better. We came to see Insidious and it was a great fun play. The cast was entertainingNd the show was put on well. We picked seats in the A row which was a bit too close for our tastes, but next time we know better. The theater was beautiful and parking was easy to park but 45 mins to exit the parking structure. They definitely need to have ushers in the parking lot to ease the mass exit after a show. It was chaos. read more

I like the Fisher very much as a venue for musicals. The building is beautiful. We sat in the mezzanine and had a nice view of the stage without being obstructed. The seating could use some refurbishing, but are not too bad. I like that they have a parking lot directly in front of the venue as well as a public parking garage. Both are complimentary with theatre tickets which is a super perk unlike most venues. For the garage you have to use a QR code, but it wasn't difficult, you just need your license plate number. I plan on returning as long as I can find reasonable tickets! read more

When you walk in, you'll be amazed by the architecture and just how historic this place can really be. If you're here for a show or visiting some of the businesses nearby there are a lot of amazing food in store options if you hear for a show getting in line finding your seat is very smooth process overall with plenty of Staff to support you. One of the things that led to four stars instead of five was the constant of folks being let in or out of the show which was distracting at times. I've been to 3 shows here so far and the experience is good. They have free parking in the structure next door which is such a relief and a time saver. Getting searched and checked into the theater is always a smooth process. The wait is never long, neither is the line. They close the box office before the intermission, so but tickets to your next show before the show starts to save on the fees. There's a bar upstairs and one downstairs but the wait and lines are always long. They don't have much for food options. Please eat before you come. They only have small charcuterie boards, a cold sandwich, an overly salted/buttered pretzel (not recommended) and a few candy options, but that's it. There are no restaurants near the theater to dine at beforehand except Zo's burger joint across the street (the next block over). I've sat on the floor and the balconies; the view and sound is good either way and the staff are very helpful in finding your seat. The production is always great! Always arrive early otherwise you have to wait 10 minutes past the start to enter the theater. Ladies, hurry to the restroom after intermission. There's always a long line. Minus one star for the broken doors near the parking structure. I'm pretty sure that's a fire hazard. Only one door is available to get in/out of for each show I've been to. read more

Gorgeous building and theater! Iconic and historical. I took my mom to the closing night of "Six The Musical" tonight and we had a splendid time! I've been to the Fisher building many times but this is the first time I saw a show. What took me so long?!! Such a great venue! There are shops throughout the lobby level and lots of Detroit spirit, clothing, food, and beverages. I recommend coming early and walking around. We bought tickets for the Ambassador Lounge before the show. It's a small lounge where you can relax, eat, and drink before the show. We were given a lovely charcuterie board. Drinks are an extra fee but the charcuterie is included in the ticket price. The lounge opens 90 minutes before showtime. It's a luxury because there is a private bathroom there so you don't have to deal with the long lines elsewhere. If your show has an intermission, you can leave your coat in the lounge and come back at intermission and receive dessert and use the restroom again. Such a perk! Sheila was our bartender in the lounge and she was fantastic! Excellent service. Attending a show includes free parking in the lot right outside the theater. Lovely experience! read more

I recently visited the Fisher Theatre for a performance of Six the musical. It was my first time at this venue, so I was delighted by the art deco look and feel of the entrance. I have to say that the free parking in the attached garage was amazing and something we definitely don't have in Grand Rapids for our Broadway shows. When we arrived, we were asked to open our bags and then were wanded with a metal detector. All fine with me, I'm not trying to sneak anything in. However I was taken aback when the security person asked if I was "expecting," which is something I would never ask anyone even if they looked 12 months pregnant. When I asked him to repeat himself, he said, "are you pregnant?" And when I said no, he said, "Oh, must be the dress." Oookay. I get that some pregnant people might not want to be wanded with this device, but I would think that would be on the patron to inform staff. Whatever the reasoning for this question, I felt it was pretty unnecessary. Anyway, besides that, the theatre itself is pretty, with plenty of options for drinks and snacks. I didn't purchase anything but it's nice to have available. The restrooms seemed kind of out of the way and hidden, I didn't use that either but I think they are downstairs? Our seats were in the lower mezzanine and had a good view, and the sound engineering for our particular show was good. I'd come back in the future for more shows if they have anything interesting that doesn't come to Grand Rapids but probably wear a different outfit. Lol read more

My family and I love coming to the Fisher for traveling theatre productions. This theatre is great because it's roomy and less crowded during busy shows than some of the older, smaller cramped venues. Drinks are definitely overpriced, and have gone up over time. First off the Fisher is absolutely stunning and so is the theatre! Great acoustics and there is not a bad seat! The only thing is you are sitting really tight to the person next to you, not a lot of room. They allow food and drink into the theatre which is really great but some people do not know how to be quiet with eating, wrappers and the such and it can be very disturbing during the show. This is a theatre and not a movie theatre. Some patrons came in late like a 1/2 an hr to 1 hr late and were let in. That was very disturbing as well. I wish the theatre would be more strict on letting people in late and with the eating. Bathrooms can get very busy before, during and after but luckily they move as there is a bathroom attendant! Parking is all around the theatre but I recommend parking in the deck! Just make sure to scan the code to pay for your parking! read more

GREAT PLACE FOR PHOTOGRAPHY!! What a beautiful building each hallway , corridor and public space holds a different style and look. Shops are starting to pop up throughout the facility and a slow renewal is taking shape in the neighborhood.. The architecture and details inside are amazing. It's nice to see such history rehabilitated. A few stores, coffee shoppes, and places to grab a bite to eat. Beautiful art and decorative style with cultural heritage! Must visit if metro Detroit area to appreciate the beauty of old classic architecture masterpieces. The lobby of the Fisher Building is open to the public. It's absolutely worth your time to take a quick walk through to see the amazing architecture. For a more in depth experience, Pure Detroit, located on the first floor of the building, offers a free tour. It lasts about one hour. You get the full history of the building along with stops on higher floors that you can't see on your own. If you have the time, I would definitely recommend the tour. It was a lot of fun. Fantastic Art Deco style sky scraper designed by the legendary Architect Albert Kahn. read more

Fisher is by far my favorite theater in Detroit. It may not be the prettiest, but the seats are more comfortable with better views, it's operated very efficiently and the adjacent free parking is so convenient. Even the bathrooms (at least the ones in the basement) operate extremely efficiently during intermissions. Just the fact that a show is at the Fisher makes me a bit more interested in seeing it. read more

Came to see Rent. This review is of the theater, not the show. It is nice, a more modern decor than the grand opulence of the Fox. The seats are comfortable, however I wonder how good it would be for those that are very tall as the rows are close together. I was in the mezzanine and the view of the stage was good. At some theaters I have been to the mezzanine overhangs the floor section more than at the Fisher. But despite that, I could see the stage without problems, There was not anything on the theater web site to tell me how long the play was. I would have appreciated that. I did not go to the bar, but it appeared well stocked. The people seating us were helpful and polite. Parking was free in the structure next to the theater. It is a tall structure (I was on the 9th floor). There are 2 elevators, both were working hard to get all the patrons to their cars. read more

Of the theaters in Detroit that I've been to, this one has the most comfortable seats - I'm 6'4" and I didn't feel like I was knocking the back of the seat in front of me. The bathrooms are located in the basement of the theater - once you walk in to the main floor, take a right and head downstairs. They've got an attached parking garage which is rather convenient versus finding parking downtown. read more

The building itself is beautiful. There are a lot of steps which can be difficult in heels. There are elevators of course, but they are for disabled people. The inside of the theatre is just...meh...compared to the Fox or The Detroit Opera House. It would be nice to have more restaurants nearby, as well. Also parking could be an issue if you're unable to walk. I would get there early, and have coffee at Stella's while waiting for the doors to open. read more

Ooh - I've never reviewed the Fisher before? Interesting. I've seen about 4 shows here now, I think, over the years; Shrek, Chicago, Annie (last Sept. 2014) and now Flashdance, last night. It's not as flashy as the Fox, but it's a nice venue to see a show. The best part about the Fisher is FREE. ATTACHED. PARKING. Yes, you heard that right :). For the Fox, I usually park at Greektown and take the People Mover, but it's very easy to get in and out of the Fisher because of their parking, and the 'fees' for it are included in your ticket price. Make sure to check out the ceilings in the theater and the Fisher Building, too - they're gorgeous. read more
