Long story short, This school lets out early ALOT. I dont know about other people, but I work. My 16 year old goes to Goodyear High and pics his brother and sister up daily, on short days he runs 30min behind because his school does not let out in time to be there at 12:20-12:35. I have been called and yelled at, chastised, belittled, and told "We are not babysiters," when my kids were waiting for their brother to pick them up. Mind you, other kids as well as security are present well after school has ended, no problems there tho. But for the front office lady to yell at my 16 year old son that he needs to take his 6 yr old sister and 10 year old brother and het off campus now... or to make a 6 year old start walking home alone while she cries that she doesnt want to because shes waiting for her older brother and shes scared to walk home... In the middle of me apologizing while gettin chastised, I was cut off multiple times and told things like "Well, you need to figure something else out,"...."Thats not my problem,"...."We are not babysitters." This is how Copper trails treats parents and children that attend AND LEND A HAND AT EVENTS. LMAO. THIS SCHOOL IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND DOES NOT CARE ABOUT CHILDREN. THEY CARE ABOUT A CHECK. For some reason, she feels it's acceptable to mislead kids in an attempt to elicit information. For example, she told my niece that she saw her on camera using her phone, asking why she called her mom about a referral she received. However, my niece didn't call her mom, and she didn't even have her phone with her. Ms. Dawson then went to my sister's classroom and shared the same misleading information with her. Additionally, I have requested a 504 plan for my child, who is struggling with math despite having an IEP in that subject. Unfortunately, the request was denied because my child doesn't "qualify." Now, I have to wait another month for the school to conduct their own IEP evaluation. I can't shake the feeling that Ms. Dawson holds some biases against my family members who attend this school.

The staff and administration present as if they thrive off parent involvement and accountability when in actuality they want the students to simply know the answers and test high, with no interaction from parents and when parents step in to seek guidance, support or clarification and attempt to hold staff and administration accountable they find any reason they can to paint the parent as the issue. Not only have I filed a police report against a teacher this year, I am now on my THIRD formal complaint with the board, have pulled my child and will be moving forward with legal steps. If you are an active, involved, and communicative parent this school will not be supportive. They focus on high score students and if your child begins to struggle in any capacity.. well it's up to your child to figure it out because 9 year olds are expected to be independent with their academic career. All while the administration allows for staff to intimidate, harass, bully, and use bias towards youth.

I mainly put the blame on the admin team. For starters, they haven't got a clue of what they're supposed to be doing, and it shows in their faces. They are always worried about the wrong things. They are extremely inconsistent and sloppy; this showed specifically during our advisory classes when we were supposed to learn things about adulthood/college & career readiness. Most of the time, our teacher had not the slightest clue of what was supposed to be happening. Many other students who I've spoken to have stated the same. Not only that, they treat not just students, but other people as well (myself included) with the upmost disrespect. Security is even worse. I understand that school safety measures must be taken in order to sustain a safe learning environment. However, it is almost prison-like how they treat it. I personally could hardly ever go to the bathroom without being stopped by a security guard. Not to mention they treat the students with no respect whatsoever. Security has even stopped me from going back to class whether I was coming back from the bathroom or coming from the office. To add on, if students are forced to stay after hours, I've found that security kicks them outside; no matter the weather. It is quite obvious to see that that could very well be an endangerment to someone's life; especially if it's 100+ degrees outside. I would like to state however, that the teachers at this school are phenomenal. Out of all the teachers I had over the years, every single one of them inspired me to be a better learner. Their empowerment keeps me going through college even today. The admin team however, does not set these teachers up for success. Information sent throughout the school is from what I've experienced, vague and unclear. So, if you are new to the area and you're looking at schools for your student, do not send them here. Verrado High School should be the last option on your list of schools to send your child. I would even consider sending my child somewhere else. This school is a terrible place, and I don't see it changing anytime in the near future.
