I was in the search of a new comic book store after we moved. Buying digital comic books is convenient and all, but it's soul sapping as well. There is something about giving your hard-earned money to Amazon that is cold. Comic books are anything but cold. I walked into this shop and immediately knew I would be setting up my pull list here. I've been going to Aw Yeah Comics since July 19, 2022 so about 2 years now, but to say Joe & his brother are genuinely some amazing people is an understatement. The amount of time's I've gone here is far too many to count, with each experience always being a pleasant one. I'm always sure to bring a friend or two down here whenever the opportunity presents itself, as it's worth showing this place the appreciation it deserves. In terms of comic book stores this is the best one in the state of Illinois hands down, with everything from the environment, staff, and presentation being perfect. So glad to have purchased many collectibles & comics from this location, and happy to have added each of them to my collection! read more

There's not too many comics book shops around but this has been one of the better ones that you'll find. Besides some of their author signed comic books, they have some great employees to help me get into some comics books in the first place. They have a subscription service to be notify and discounted on single issue comics. There are a few table that holds most of their old comic pile. They are some figurines like those pop dolls. A small shop pack with solid reads. Come here during free comic book day and there are some great deals. My recommend reads: Rick and Morty, I hate Fairyland, Black Science. read more

This comic book store is actually pretty sweet. I could spend hours just by looking at the fancy artwork and whatnot. Marc who I guess is the store owner, really knows the comic universe inside and out, helped out the novice customers like me. I am hoping they get some Street Fighter related stuff in the future, though. The best part is it's only a 5 minute drive. Check out my pictures! read more

I am so glad Aw Yeah Comics exists. We first found our way there this spring for their anniversary event and came back this past weekend for Free Comic Day. My kids got into comics through Baltazar and Franco's Tiny Titans series, and this store is (part?) owned by them. The staff is super helpful and friendly and both events were very well organized. I think if you're stalking back issues or more adult fare, this might not be the store for you. But, if you're a dad that's tired of having to gently to steer your kids away from the torture porn and T&A of comics, Aw Yeah is a nice break. I wasn't sure that a drive into Skokie was worth it just for a small comics store, but it absolutely is. There's free parking, some good dining options in the area. I hope the various commercial gods smile on this store and that we have many happy visits in the future. read more

Love Marc and the crew at Aw Yeah in Skokie. You cant stump him and if it is available, they will find it! Events, signings and more Aw Yeah has brought some fun to Downtown Skokie. My son has some problems reading and comics seem to be helping. I grew up reading comics and am happy to have re-discovered them after many years. My Batman was different than the Batman of today but there are plenty of other options, just ask Marc to get you started. Clean, full and friendly. Families and children encouraged! read more

Is this the best comic book store the city of Skokie has ever seen? AW, YEAH!!! It's one thing to have such a warm, clean and pleasant atmosphere for reading comics for people of all ages. It's another completely AWESOME thing to have it owned and operated by the coolest cats in the world, including fan-favorite homegrown artist, Art Balthazar. The creator of such great titles like Tiny Titans and Superman Family has not only plastered the walls of Aw Yeah Comics with his great artwork, it's home base for his independently owned comic company of the same name. Marc is equally as friendly and helpful, and will always ask if you're finding everything ok. They encourage you to pick up books off the shelf and read them in one of the comfy chairs in the middle of the room. What really makes Aw Yeah stand out is how much they really care. They have tons of events and signings to encourage reading of comics from all age groups and backgrounds. No one should ever leave the store feeling ignored or left out. They have a lot of fun events and it's very family-friendly. It's clear the owners put a lot of thought into the space, and it really pays off. When I first reviewed Aw Yeah Comics, the place was just getting started. Now it is in full swing, and very, VERY fun to be at. They are starting a lot of fun gatherings, like "Chat and Chew" on Sunday Mornings at 10 am. Go to chat about comics with a free continental breakfast available! NICE! Great people, too! They also have a "Ladies Night" to discuss comics, a cookout coming during August, many kid-related projects and gatherings, soon to have a "Pride Night" for the LGBT community, many MANY comic book Author signings (Like Art Baltazaar and Franco Aureliani (who co-own the comic shop with Marc Hammond). Michael Moreci and Steve Seeley, the guys who wrote "Hoax Hunters", were just there on August 8th. Yep, this place is hopping! And they do have a pull box for you to use! Just need to have them hold 1 comic every month minimum, and you get 10% off of your sales! And a dollar off of Previews magazine!!! By the way, they also have the Belly Card system. Every time you go in there, scan your card and you get points for free comics and artwork!! The points add up! They carry most of the current tiles. And if they don't Marc can get them for you, n/c. They will also be producing THEIR OWN "AW YEAH" COMIC soon! They also have 25 cent sales on designated comics on certain days and will run unannounced specials from time to time. They have a great website (http://www.awyeahcomics.com/index.html) which now posts what they are getting in every week. Pretty soon they'll have a link to buy comics ONLINE from distributors!! You go through their link and they get a proceed from your sales. Nice, huh? Paperback comics and Digital! Well, I can't say enough about the place. Thanks to sites like Groupon and Living Social, I've discovered businesses and restaurants that I either didn't know about or have wanted to try. This particular place falls into the former category as they are in Skokie and I live on the opposite side of the city. But thanks to a rediscovery of a love of a particular series of comic books, I'm trying to find any and all comic book stores in the city and don't mind driving a bit of a distance to do so. You walk in the store and its not too terribly big. I was greeted by the cashier and started looking around. They do have a nice selection of the different comic book series, the old comic books as well as the newer stuff (including the manga style books). I found a small selection of the series I was after (Archie) and when asked, I was told thats all they had at this time...seeing as they just opened in the past few months and lots of room to expand, I'm sure they will stock more in the future. All in all a good place to go...please note that its street parking so if the area is busy for one reason or another, you may have to hunt for a parking spot and walk. I will definitely come again as this was worth the drive and I see a lot of potential for this store. read more

First off, great name! It's totally upbeat and fun! I stopped into Aw Yeah one Saturday morning to check the place out. I'm on the hunt for a comic book store I can call my own. There was a shop nearby my house that I used to frequent but has closed since. So this visit to Aw Yeah was almost like an their interview. Heh heh heh. I'm totally a fan of this place. Upon walking in, I was cheerfully greeted by Marc, one of the owners I think. Now I'm not sure if this is a regular thing, but he offered me freshly brewed coffee which is a very nice touch! He answered a couple questions I had and was very helpful in locating and item I was looking for. This is by far the neatest, most organized comic book store I've ever set foot in. The shop itself is small but spacious. The walls of the store are lined with comic books and graphic novels. Even though it's spacious, it's also cozy. You can grab a comic and plop yourself down on one of the 3 La-Z Boy chairs in the center of the store and read. I'm definitely going to be a regular here. read more

So incredibly happy I found out about this place. After having several bad experiences at other comic book stores, I had resigned myself to having a friend get my comics for me. But I had to wait sometimes to get my books from him, and needed a solution. Enter Aw Yeah. I stopped in here after seeing an invite for some Ladies Night event. I asked about setting up my pull list, and the staff was super helpful. I didn't really browse too much, but I did ask about some past titles and they found what I was looking for. Introductions were made, hands were shaken, it was a nice experience. What really blew me away - A few weeks later I went in to pick up my comics. After only meeting once, he remembered my name and got my books for me. I was really impressed by that. I don't have a huge list, I don't spend tons of money, but they made the effort to remember me, and have my stuff ready to go. I love this place, I really do. I hope to attend some of their special events. An added bonus for me is that they are on my way home from work. I think Aw Yeah is warm, welcoming, friendly, and open. A rare thing for comic book stores, actually. They have what I want, and are always willing to order the things I am looking for. The store itself is comfortable, bright and clean. Recently moved to the area and was looking for a good comic book shop to continue feeding my reading needs. Aw Yeah comics truly fulfilled this and then some. Kurt is my go to for finding what I'm looking for and on the off chance he doesn't have it, he orders it and follows up once it's in. The address is incorrect as they are now on Lincoln Ave which has better parking. Will continue shopping here. read more

We have had so much fun getting into comics since Aw Yeah moved to the neighborhood a little over a year ago. Marc, one of the owners has so much knowledge it's amazing. He has helped pick out comics for my husband and my 6 year old which they have loved. The store is warm and friendly and very comfortable even for someone that doesn't know a whole lot about comics or graphic novels. They have many, many special events such as the BBQ they just held this past Sunday. I strongly encourage anyone who loves comic books, graphic novels and toys to visit and see what I'm talking about. Love this place. It's a bit on the small side but everything is very clean and very well organized. Staff is super laid back and cool so you have a feeling you're with friends. They are very helpful on everything and are great at recommending, and just helping in general. I do love places that give their employees their voice and they do have employee picks. I've always been to bigger comic book stores, so it's true that the selection is comparatively limited, mostly popular titles with only a few indie or niche ones thrown in. When you have limited shelf space, you have to maximize for what people will most likely buy. However, they are more than willing to order stuff for you. Very welcoming to readers new to comics, young and old. I like that the focus of this store is on comics and books, not collectibles or tabletop/card gaming. read more

Perfect for young readers, their selection for kids was great and my son loved exploring the store. When we decided to stop in I was afraid we'd encounter dirty looks as our 6 year old touched everything, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the owner expected people to touch things and even said, "Comic books are meant to be read!" This store is a far cry from some I've been in where everything is in plastic and bending a corner as you turn a page sends gasps of horror through the store. It was welcoming and comfortable and just an overall great experience. Oh, I'm sure they've got comics that get the white glove treatment, but they're not out front so us comic book newbies can rest assured that we won't accidentally put a thumb print on a book that someone loves more than their own grandmother. Picked up 2 comic books for my young reader for $5 and watched happily as my son spent hours looking at them and was motivated to read on his own (and frequently brings them out to revisit). We'll definitely be going back! read more

I went to Aw Yeah the other day with my kids to pick DC's new Forever Evil comic book and some of the special one-issue villains comic books. It's a really nice place with a really good guy working there (sorry I didn't catch his name). I hadn't collected comic books since Reagan was president and the guy was very patient. One word to describe this place. CUTE. I drove out of my way to check this shop out and I was pretty disappointed. Seemed like it's mainly geared towards kids and selling their own product line. Guy behind the register wasn't particularly friendly. No bags and boards and few independents. read more
