I asked a few questions and it's like asking a question to workers as if it's pulling teeth. IF all business interactions are just transactional there is no need for the workers. Comic book stores are always cool. If looking for a mix of popular and edgy stuff, come here. The Comix Revolution has been a favorite place in Evanston for years. Lots of stuff for freaks and geeks. You can get gifts for other or yourself such as comics, toys, and more. A lot of variety in the items. It's not just all about comic books and graphic novels. There's also more niche stuff to collect such as if you like manga and stuff like that. Has a collection of both new and old. There's a lot more recent stuff though. Good layout. The back of the store has the manga stuff. Great place to find someone knowledgeable about comics. It has lots to look through and while it's not as cheap as big stores it has things you won't find in these other places. I have been in here a couple times with my kids. The Asian dude at the desk was a total douche. He did not give anyone the time of day and was on the computer the whole time while people were standing in front of him. Impromptu visit today... I was on the hunt for a particular volume of manga. After being disappointed at Kinokuniya in Arlington Heights, I had almost given up, but decided to give this place a call. Luck was with me, as they did in fact have it, when it seemed all other places (including online) did not. They were happy to hold it for me & I rushed over. Their manga selection is small, but I've been told that there will be more, which is promising. Everything's in perfect condition & while no, you won't get those sale prices you do elsewhere, what you will get is great service (they can even try to order things for you), & manga in perfect condition. Great store. I was looking for manga, and the selection was small, yet they had a great variety. They had new series and older stuff as well, including some severely out of print stuff. The deals were also great, there was a shelf of manga that was only 5 dollars each and I got a value pack of 5 volumes for 19 bucks. I'm not into bl and yaoi, but there was a great deal where you could buy 1 for 3 dollars or 5 for 10 dollars, which is honestly insane. Also, the worker was very chill. I love there manga selection here. They do have other sections of fiction though, and non fiction comics. There are pendants and stuffed animals here too if that's what you like. Overall great variety and layout, just not a lot of publicity. read more

This is a cute comic book store located in downtown Evanston. They have comics, graphic novels, manga, and some other fun knick knacks like Funko Pop figures. It's a geek lover's paradise. I really liked the extensive manga collection they have in the back room. In the end, I purchased a Scott Pilgrim graphic novel here because I've always wanted to read this series. The guy at the counter (James) was very nice. He even helped me with a separate issue I was having where I needed to talk to a store owner to verify some things. Would recommend! read more

This location is one of 2 around town and they have a very nice place. Parking can be tough but you'll likely have to pay for street parking and walk a few blocks. It's a very nice layout as well as very clean. I like the kind of comic book shops where you're not bumping into people at every turn. I visited on free comic book day and they had a reasonable amount of sales going on with their back issues. They handle plenty of single issues on sale as well as bundled ones which was nice. Overall experience was good. For me, it just seemed to be missing a bit of personality and seemed more of a professional setting with comics. Maybe it was the fact that they had staff just standing around looking at clients. Every once in a while, they would ask if anyone needed help but it just felt like they were standing guard. I'm not sure what the point was and made all of us feel awkward. read more

Not only is the store incredibly clean and organized with a great selection but the staff is incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly! I was looking for a specific book and asked an employee when they might restock that series. He helped place a special order for the book for me! I am not a comic book hobbyist at ALL. My friend, who was visiting from DC, is a major fan of "The Watchmen". We stopped by Comix Revolution after showing him the Evanston Library. I can't compare this store to others. Actually, that's not true. Comix Revolution is much more modern and organized than "The Android's Dungeon & Baseball Card Shop" in Springfield. You won't find any annoying kids perpetually stuck in fourth grade here or comic book guys who have terrible habits of correcting and insulting their customers about all things geek. The music playing in Comix Revolution can have obscenities, but that just makes this place rock (no pun intended) even harder. If had the slightest interest in comic books and illustrated novels, I would be all over this place. read more

As far as I know, this is the second location in Jim Mortensen's burgeoning comics retail empire. While students at Northwestern, we co-ran the Northwestern University Comic Book Interest Group, a loosely organized club that brought speakers such as Chris Ecker, Larry Marder, and Scott McCloud to campus. The club's T-shirt was designed by Chris Ware. So I wasn't surprised by my first visit to Jim's Evanston store earlier this year. Comix Revolution carries your usual selection of single issues, but it's also like Rocketship in that it's a book store. The Rev shelves a broad selection of anthologies, trade paperbacks, and manga volumes. But the most notable aspect of Jim's store is that he also carries non-comics book -- books he thinks smart comics readers might also read. That was extremely nice to see. Instead of trying to bring comics into bookstores, like many in the industry are attempting to do with some success, he's trying to bring books into his comic shop. And that will only welcome a wider range of customers. Keep up the good work, man. You're already running a better store than the one we frequented when we were undergrads. read more

Comix Revolution seems to be something of an anomaly in this area - a seeming mixture of Chicago Comics and Quimby's, CR mixes all of the latest issues from the Big Two along with syntax from the likes of Fantagraphics and Oni along with small press zines and more specialty publications. Aside from Chicago Comics and the big book store chains, this is the only place where you'll find a somewhat exhaustive selection of manga (along with reduced price packs for complete series that haven't been able to move). Of note as well, their selection of Ugly Dolls is rivaled only by Rotofugi. The city of Evanston is loaded to the gills with retirees and college students - neither group of which would seemingly be into any of the wares and ephemera pushed at Comix Revolution, but for those with more fringe tastes, this is a treasure to the town. read more

When I moved to Chicago a few years ago I had to leave my favorite comic shop behind. We had a tough, tearful breakup, but alas, we went our separate ways. Then along came Comix Revolution and my heart knew happiness once again. They have a great selection of both big publishers and indy comics, pop culture books and t-shirts (I need to stop buying so many blasted Wonder Woman shirts). The folks who work there are quite knowledgeable and happy to share recommendations without being pushy salespeople. That makes me a very loyal customer. I feel welcomed, but not watched. My sister and I have collected comics since we were young'uns running around in our Underoos. We've been in bad shops that unfortunately fit the comic stereotype (girls walk in and creepy guys turn to stare at the foreign creatures) and great ones where we can chat with both fans and employees alike and leave with some first-rate titles. Comix Revolution definitely falls into that latter category and I'm happy they're around. read more

If this place were in Chicago, it would be less impressive, I suppose, but it's not; it's in a suburb: Evanston. I wouldn't come to Evanston to come here, but if you are in Evanston and are the slightest bit literate, do come here. It will be worth it. The recipe is simple: a comics mecca mixed with art books, indie lit and off beat mags. The end product is an extremely seductive browser's paradise and buyer's haven. I spent 45 minutes here with my 6 year old son. They allowed him to physically handle a lot of their merchandise, mostly the comics. While he absorbed that, I browsed a surprisingly rich humanities and fiction collection. As we left having bought nothing, my son remarked, "Hey Dad, there's a lot of cool art in there." And he was right. My favorite item in the store was a book on Muhammad Ali as the first rap artist. Coooooooool book, but almost $30 so I passed. But I know it's there and am evening thinking about going back to claim it. They only had one copy. Minor complaint: too many of their art books were wrapped up without sample copies to browse through. So it goes. read more

The godliest comics shop known to man. PERIOD. I brought my friend from Austin here and she was hesitant at first...and after three seconds, she found a Serenity t-shirt, a Harley Quinn graphic novel and every Joe Meno book ever published and left a very happy girl. This place also is one of the few I've seen that carries the Freak Angels graphic novels and the Doctor Who magazine. The staff is beyond friendly & helpful and they never pester you to 'hurry up & buy'. If there was a ten star option, this place would get it. This is the ONLY place I will go to get my John Constantine: Hellblazer graphic novels...and it's more than worth the trip. read more

This place rules. It's the only comic shop I've ever been in that devotes any attention to indie, non-superhero comics. They do keep a big rack of Spiderman and whoever else's comics, but they devote a lot of space to independant comics, of the mundane-real-life and nerdy-but-not-quite-superhero and crazy-surreal and goth and anime types. They also have some fiction book-books. My recent favorite from C-Rev is the Marc Bell curated Nog a Dod, a collection of zines from NW Canada in the last decade. If you like comics that aren't about dudes who fight crime, this is definitely your place. Even if I can't find anything worth buying, it's always cool to look at books and listen to the (usually good/decent) tunes. read more

It doesn't feel like there are boxes of slowly rotting floppies growing mold all over the place like some comic shops. Which is one of the grossest things. Ever. So, none of that here. I guess revolutionaries are the clean cut sort of type. Which is a little inconsistent given the types of people you typically see wearing Che Guevara t-shirts. As much as I enjoy the new comics. I'd prefer to have a larger selection of the old and new. This bookstore is fantastic. I had expected there to be more superheroes and less indie comics, perhaps because I have heard so much about places like Quimby's and Chicago Comics and nothing about a little comic book store up in Evanston, but I was wrong! The selection of books is wonderful. There aren't as many comic books as in the larger stores, but the ones they carry are very well-chosen. There is also a very reliable selection of fiction and magazines, and several shelves of art books (mostly by Taschen). In addition, there's an area with books on culture/society/politics, and many of these are great readings that you won't find in the Barnes & Noble around the corner. read more
