You can't see much inside the store from the outside but once you are inside you can see how clean and organized the comic store is. I love coming to this location every Wednesday when a new X-Men book is out. Nick and Kayleigh are always VERY kind and super helpful managing pre orders, helping people find things and moving long lines ahead. Theyre always organized and the store is in top shape. I have yet to have any issues such as preorders being damaged or out of stock. They even stop in their tracks and listen to me babble on about Scream movies and other things that have nothing to do with their store. 5 stars baby read more

Does anyone watch "Big Bang Theory," and get a laugh when Penny's accompanied the guys to the comic book store? I'm Penny. Well, I mean I feel the same way about comic book stores the way her character does. I roll my eyes the way her character does. I seem puzzled by the allure of comic books and cheesy figurines the way her character does. I'm really there just to accompany my own friends, the way her character does. Yeah, I'm Penny in that regard. But, there's one time I decided to pick up some Marvel or DC trinkety-comic booky-thingy. I don't know the lingo...I just bought something I knew my friend would like. I pointed and said, "Buy." It's the experience comparable to the episode where Penny goes into the store alone to buy one of the guys a gift. I left the store unscathed and happy. read more

No matter how old you are, you feel like a kid when you walk in here. Wall-to-wall racks of comics and crates of back-issues, an overload of super heroes and villains. I try to come here every month and if not this exact place, there are other Graham Crackers around the city. Their services are out of this world, I was looking for an issue that had past and they called all their other stores and shipped that issue to this one and at no extra cost. read more

Loved this place when I found it on a trip to Chicago. Plenty of comics in stock to choose from, new and older back issues. I dug around for about an hour and when I finally came up for air I found several gems I'd been looking for even before I walked in the store and some others that were just things I wanted to add to my collection just on the strength of finding them. Plenty of merchandise even past comics to choose from as well. Comic shops are my toy stores and this was definitely a place I could spend lots of time and money in if I allowed myself to. I love this comic store. Seriously, I feel like I'm cheating when I buy books anywhere else now. First, please understand that even though this is a "chain" there really are only 9 stores in all of Illinois - it is still a small business, NOT a corporation. And they are WELL loved in the industry - by fans and publishers alike. I have NEVER seen them jack up the prices of new books, and new books are always put out as soon as they have them (I know because I've been buying Shadowland as soon as it comes out at cover price here). I've been shopping at Crackers locations since I moved to Chicago three years ago - once up on a time at the Loop store, sometimes at the Lakeview location, and now in Edgewater. The Edgewater location was recently taken over by Shanna, a female employee who used to work in the downtown location. Ever since she took over, she had worked hard to keep the place clean, organized, and incredibly friendly. I know that whenever I swing by, I will feel at home with nerdy/geeky conversation and some laughs. It is also great to chat it up with a fellow female comic nerd who understands how difficult it is to be taken as a serious comic fan when you have ovaries. Girls, and guys, if you love comic books, I highly recommend you check out the new and improved Edgewater Crackers. read more

Still awesome and my go-to refuge in the city of Chicago. The guys who originally ran the store have taken off for greener pastures, but the new guard are just as friendly, knowledgeable and cool. They're also younger than I am which gives me the tiniest bit of anxiety (comic book store clerks your age = I'm okay, you're okay; comic book store clerks much younger than you = I really need a girlfriend). Let me start by saying I'm not the most avid comic book reader out there. But, as a teacher of middle schoolers, I get lots of "more comic books, please!" So I looked around for a comic book store to stop by on my way home. I called up Graham Cracker Comics and a wonderful lady named Shanna had 40 comic books picked out for me and ready to go within the hour. I can't complain about any of the Chicago location Graham Crackers, but the Edgewater store became my go-to while I lived in the city. It's not the biggest of the bunch, but it's friendly and well-organized, with plenty of elbow room despite the relatively limited space. It sits right between two Red Line stops and has plenty of (paid) street parking, so it's easy to access either from mass transit or personal vehicle. The new release walls are huge and organized according to company, then alphabetically, with brightly colored signs to denote new releases, making browsing a breeze if you're on the lookout for specific books. If you want to skip the new release wall entirely, setting up a pull box with them was an easy way to ensure I never missed an issue if I couldn't make it to the store on release day for a really popular title. There's a respectable selection of trade paperbacks and they're happy to help you find a copy of a book if they don't have it in stock. When I tried to order a book that had just gone out of print, the manager went above and beyond by checking with the other Graham Cracker locations just in case she could locate it for me. They have a section dedicated to children's comics right at the front of the store, so there are no worries that the kiddies will have to wander past any gory or risque covers from the superhero comics just to reach the My Little Pony, Adventure Time, and Bone comics. If there were a comic store this pleasant to frequent where I live now, I'm sure I'd still be picking up floppies every other week instead of once in a blue moon. read more

I live only a few blocks away from this gem. I'm not an avid comic book reader, but have many friends that are. I always recommend that they shop here. The staff is always helpful and intelligent. The store is clean and well organized. I think that comic book stores are slapped with this stigma that the "comic book guy" works there. And while I have actually lived that experience in the past (although it was a sports card store), Graham Crackers boldly defies that logic. Full disclosure, I put up a lot of comedy shows here in the Chicago. And the rare times that I go and poster at places, I always make sure to stop at Graham Crackers. Apparently when they moved 2 miles down the street, they moved their reviews. And sadly I'm taking Graham Crackers down yet another star. I have been in here over fives times in their new location. And not ONCE have I been greeted, asked if I needed help, or even acknowledged by a glance in my direction. I'm super disappointed that what use to me my go-to shop for comics has turned into employees that would rather talk to each other than sell comic books. To make sure I wasn't crazy, I pointedly took my wife in here with me. Same thing. Not. One. Word. We looked through comics, new and back issues. Some figures in the back. I was showing her some Wonder Woman stuff and explaining it. And nothing - we left 15 minutes ago and I turned to her and said "right!? I'm not crazy??" Customer service needs to come back to this chain badly. I'll give you the Loop location - full of tourists with no intention of buying anything. But people that use to have you as their subscription store? Shouldn't you want to keep them or bring them back? You have a decent collection of back issues though, so you get to keep a star. read more

I used to love this place. I'd go in once a week to pick up my pull list, and usually chat with everyone for awhile. Well, everyone I used to chat with are now gone, and it's just not quite as friendly. I was a member here for about 3 years, but I don't live as close anymore, the friends are gone, and I've found other LCBS that have more perks. Being a member here has some advantages. They pull your books (nothing special, most shops do this if you're a member). They give you a 10% discount (again, not really all that special). The great thing, though, is they give you a flyer every month of any new series, trades, toys, or books with a change in creative teams, that will be coming out, so you can check off anything you want added to your pull list. It's great to know that you'll have issue #1 on your list months before it even comes out. I also really like how they divide the store into publishers. DC on one wall, Marvel on another, Image on a 3rd, and indies at the end. They also have a very large selections of back issues. And they have stores all over the city and burbs, so if this store doesn't have what you're looking for, they will call the other stores to see if they have it, and then ship it to this store. Really I'd still be going here if the guys still worked here, but after they left, and I found another LCBS that gives a bigger discount and boards and bags all books, well, it was time to move on as well. read more

This place rocks hard! Graham Crackers Comics is located across the street from our dental practice. On our way to the dentist, my son asked if we could go there and just "look around." I was floored that he remembered it. It had been 6 months since we last visited. I promised him that he could pick one item out if he was on his best behavior. We would go after, not before. The staff at Graham Crackers Comics are super cool. He hung out at their counter and talked to them about his favorite characters as if he belonged there. I could see my life flash before me and it was weird. They treated him like they do their regular customers, not like an annoying 4 year old. It was really cute listening to them exchange stories with him, compare villains, and discuss which Spider-man series was the best. The staff was really attentive to his ramblings. They took down his name and phone number and promised that they would call their other stores to check for a few characters that he has not been able to find anywhere. He ended up purchasing a very cool Hulk figure that he swears is cooler than all his others. Even after the purchase he still wanted to hang out with his new found friends. They showed him a set of 3 Spider-man figures that had just come into the store. I almost died when he said, "We'll take it". We had agreed on one, not two items. The clerk was quick to save me. He really rocks. He totally knows how to talk to kids and diffuse what could have turned into a hideous temper tantrum. Speaking only to BFB, he offered to hide the item and put BFB's name on it so that nobody else could buy it. He would save it for his next visit. That is over and beyond customer service! read more

I disagree with Shelly. I've been a customer of various Graham Cracker stores for 15 years, and although I agree with her that it's run like a corporation, it's a corporation that has never failed to find an issue for me, or get whatever I wanted. Although in an ideal world it would be great to support mom and pop stores, I'm not going to when the majority are dank and dim, and have no clue what I'm talking about. Which brings me to the staff, of which, get 5 stars, because I could sit and talk to them for hours, not only about comics, but movies, tv, music, literature ... whatever. All of them are versed in a myriad of subjects. I think this speaks to how GC values their regular customers, and if not the company, the staff surely does. read more

This is one of those places more geared towards collectors than readers. Most of the stores is boxes of back issues. I do like how the new stuff is divided by publisher, because I don't like much of the DC/Marvel stuff so I can just go to the indie section where the signal-to-noise is better. In any event, if you're intimidated by old-school comic book stores, I suggest schlepping up the street to Chicago Comics. read more

Ok, they still got the comics and it is still a great spot and I will probably keep going but the staff has gone from cool and fun to bored and just plane rude sometimes. 5 years I've been a Graham Cracker fan - go maybe once a month - twice a month - They used to have this guy working there - Tom (no I don't know his last name - Thyizmore or something strange like that) and this dude was great! He used to have my books ready for me, some great suggestions on what was new to read and just brought the fun in. You could quote any flick to this nerd of nerds (and I mean that in the best possible way) and he could tell you the movie it was in, which character said it and sometimes how far into the movie it was - Really - I didn't realize how much he made this place cool. It's just not the same without this guy. Just goes to show you the right person can make a shopping experience go from a $20 quick fix - in an out - to a $100 "how the hell did I spend so much" hour you look forward to after a long crappy day at your desk. Huge comic book store with a great selection! Its also one of the most organized stores I've ever seen, the owner has taken great care to label every single box and every single category. They've got everything from new age stuff to that one really old book you need to complete your collection! And they also have sports memorabilia! I'm happy to be living somewhere where there ARE comic book stores and I rather like Graham Crackers Comics -- their staff are helpful and make me feel good about my purchases, and while I'll admit their comics are expensive, in my experience they really are expensive no matter where you go. They're also happy to recommend comics to me based on what I'm already purchasing (if I ask, at least) and are quick to know what I'm talking about. Free comic book day here was lovely also! The three book limit was a bit of a bother, but they made up for it with free face painting (I got a BSG viper on my cheek) and free comic-related gummies and candies. I'm a not-so-secret Buffy fan. You know, the vampire slayer, not the girl in curls from Family Affair. Anyways, I've been late in the ballgame - I saw the first episode of Angel a week before the last aired and I was hooked from the start. I started watching Buffy about a year later and I'm currently watching the last and final season 7 on DVD. I want to know what happens, but I'm so not looking forward to saying goodbye to the Scoobies. Wait, you mean there's a season 8? In comic book form? What?! And it's written by Joss Whedon, so it's canon? I marched right over to Borders where they were selling issue #4, which I did buy, but it does me no good when I can't have #1-3. So I decided to go to the comic book store and I was so scared walking in because I thought these guys would laugh at me. I know that they're geeks - beyond geek, but this is their territory. And it's usually all guys. I call myself a geek, but I wonder if I truly pass among them. I thought I'd be eaten alive. But they were so nice to me. Well maybe not really nice, but they treated me like a paying customer rather than a snooty "get out of this store, you don't belong" air. I use to live in Oregon where we had a great comic store. Tons of back issues, lots variety, and always someone there to discuss all things nerd. I moved from Oregon to Chicago a year ago and instantly found my new home for comics at Graham Crackers Lincoln Park. These people know me, what I like, and are always saying hi to me there and on the street. I feel I could see any of them in a bar and walk up and start chatting. Their friendly, have an incredible amount of knowledge and are truly great people. The store is awesome. Tons of special deals throughout the year. If I can find something (i.e. I kill giants #1) they get find it. I'm a proud member of this small community, and even though I won't be living near the store, I'm keeping my box there. Don't know how I've missed this place, seeing as I've worked a block away for several years now, but it's pretty excellent. The first thing I noticed upon walking in was that the place was clean and organized (not two words often associated with comic stores). Graham Cracker has a significantly larger selection of new releases than my other usual haunt and a fairly impressive selection of back issues. When browsing those, I noticed two things. One, back issues here cost me two to four dollars more per than at most other places, but two, they had everything I was looking for, and due to the excellent organization it was easy to find. Yes, there is some pleasure in browsing for hours, but it can be frustrating when nothing is in order and at the end you've got two issues off of your three page want list. Take half that time at Graham Cracker and you'll have a stack, easy. Throw in a giant and comprehensive selection of tpbs and hard covers, and there's another hole in my wallet. One of those good holes though. I think. The staff seemed pretty low key, not as friendly as other places, but it was one visit in the middle of the day and maybe everyone was just hungry. I'll definitely be back, so we'll see what happens. read more

I'm a little biased since my selection tastes are easy to come by (there's only a handful of comic series I buy...) but I love the community aspect and energy of this comic book store. I've been to ones that really make you just wish you could go anywhere else or order online-which defeats part of the magic of comics to me!-but this place is very welcoming. I've been to this store once and it made me immeassurably angry. It was the first week that Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 8 came out. I happened to be visiting Chicago so I asked my girlfriend (who lived there) to take me to a shop so I could pick up the issue. Well, we walked in the store and I was immediately impressed with how many comics there were. However, my delight soon turned to dismay when I found my desired comic listed for ten dollars. TEN DOLLARS. For a comic that had JUST come out. I left, infuriated. Literally the next day I found another, smaller, FRIENDLIER, comic store who had the issue I wanted AND its variant for much cheaper. Do yourself a favor and do go to this impersonal joint who is only looking to rip off the consumer. read more
