Specialties
At Awaken Therapeutic Services, the work centers on codependency, self-abandonment, and the patterns that develop when love has to be earned rather than received. Recovery here is treated as more than insight — it's nervous system work. Many clients are high-functioning, deeply attuned to everyone else's needs, and exhausted from a lifetime of managing other people's emotions at the expense of their own. Together, the reflexive patterns of over-giving, fawning, and anticipatory anxiety slow down, making room to rebuild a felt sense of safety that doesn't depend on being needed. Drawing on attachment theory and somatic approaches, clients move from surviving their relationships to actually inhabiting them.
History
Established in 2024.
This practice began with a simple observation: so many clients walking through the door weren't struggling with a lack of insight. They already knew why they kept abandoning their own needs. What they lacked was a nervous system that felt safe enough to do anything different. Trained as a Marriage and Family Therapist, the focus sharpened over time toward codependency, self-abandonment, and the relational patterns that form when love has always had to be earned. What started as general talk therapy, evolved into a specialized practice built around one core belief: recovery isn't just about understanding the pattern, it's about retraining the body to tolerate safety, receiving, and rest. Today, this work spans giving clients access to the same depth of care regardless of how they find their way in.
Meet the Business Owner: Yas K.
Yas Khoushab is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in California, specializing in codependency, self-abandonment, and nervous system healing. She earned her degree in Psychology from Pepperdine University and has been practicing since 2018. Yas approaches therapy not as a place to simply talk through problems, but as a space to retrain the body and mind toward genuine safety — the kind that doesn't depend on constant giving, anticipating, or earning love. Outside the therapy room, she's the creator of Codependency Copilot, where she brings the same direct, no-fluff approach to content that helps people recognize their patterns in real time. When she's not working with clients, you'll find her deepening her own practice through Pilates, holistic practices, and other reflective tools— a reminder that healing is something she lives, not just teaches.
