I went to another salon for years, but when my sltylist moved I wasn't satisfied with new one. A friend recommended Kristen from Impressions, and she is amazing! The staff are also very sweet and accomedating. I have thick coarse hair that is long and curly. She knew exactly what to do with it. She is the BEST with color. I researched local salons for a good curly cut. This place had great reviews. I was told Carrie would be the best. Came for my cut and told her my previous experience/concern with hairdressers and showed her pictures of the cut I was interested in. My cut took a while, longer than expected. When she finished it was shorter than what I wanted, she stated she tried to get the cut length between two pictures I had showed her. Which is doing her own thing. She never talked me thru what she was doing. Actually, barely talked to me. Charge: $65. My hairstyle fell flat three days later and I realized there were no curtain bangs, like I requested; had another salon stylist look over my "cut". No layering around my face; I barely have any layer and parts are uneven. I called so that she can compensate or give me a credit for this $15 value cut, left a message, no return call. I have to get this corrected. I read that she is a master stylist with "years of experience". Just wasn't worth the money or time. She did offer to correct any imperfections before I left...why mess it up more if you can't cut if remotely correct the first time. Val is a great choice. I came here because I wanted a more affordable haircut. I have super curly hair, so the devacurl process was suggested. I really did like the products my stylist used. My haircut however, is pretty uneven. I don't always wear my hair curly, so I asked for it to be washed/dried and then cut (so it's even when straight, which is more noticeable) and my stylist kinda laughed and said that was silly and pushed the Devacurl process. I'm really bummed that it looks funny straight now. All in all: if you always wear your hair curly, go for it. If not, they cut it before washing it, even if you had product in it and had it tied up, and cut as they see fit in this state, then fix it after washing. Makes for a fine curly cut. Not great straight one. read more

I had a pretty bad color experience here. I had come here for a couple deva cuts before and loved them so thought I would give them a chance at a color. I asked for a balayage and what I got were streaky chunky brassy highlights 4 hours later. I have gotten a balayage before and safe to say it went a lot better. Don't get me wrong the stylist I had was very sweet but did not seem to understand what to do with my hair and was not honest in how it turned out. I was also charged over 100$ more than what the estimate was and wasn't alerted of any of the extra costs that were building. I did not go back to the salon demanding them to fix it as I can't see it going great and also don't want more damage to my hair if it doesn't go well a second time. I have been using purple shampoo to get it away from that color and it's worked to an extent but it doesn't change the fact that I have what reminds me of kelly clarkson highlights left. Once my hair is a bit healthier I will most likely just be box dying it back to my natural color. read more

This Salon is by far one of the most upbeat, respectful, welcoming & classy salons in the entire Tallahassee area. Everyone there gets along, and it's obvious that they are very team oriented and that's extremely rare to find in Tallahassee. Trena, the owner, is an amazing woman all around. Not just at cutting hair but also running her business and raising her family! She's a great communicator and I wouldn't ask for anyone else to call my boss. I'm so grateful and blessed to have been given the opportunity to work for this Salon. And anyone that comes in for any service will leave 110% more than satisfied with their results! read more

I was excited to find on the Deva Curl website that there was a salon in Tallahassee. My next option would be many hours drive. Impressions is a reasonable distance from my house. Sandy worked on me and made the changes I needed. This was my 2nd Deva Curl hair cut. (I went to a Deva salon in SLC for my first cut.) I went shorter this time. Too long between appointments! My hair looks great now and with all that long hair weight taken off, it is so much curlier. Everyone one in the salon was really friendly. They were on time with my appointment and Sandy was fun to work with! I was also happy that they were well stocked in Deva Curl products. There are a lot more choices that I knew about. read more

Decent devacut but forced devacurl products on me. I felt like I was in a commercial my whole visit.

I was a client at Impressions by Trena for approximately three years receiving massages, manicures and pedicures. It is Trena's poor business etiquette that has turned me away from her salon forever. I saw my masseuse at Impressions twice a month. At some point in March 2009, I accidentally bounced a check written to Trena and somehow went unaware of the infraction. Neither Trena nor my bank notified me of the bounced check and I continued to go to Impressions for my bi-monthly massages and continued to write checks for the services. I received a phone call from Trena's staff finally notifying me of the bounced check NINE MONTHS LATER!!!! One week before Christmas 2009. And there was no option to bring them cash (which of course I offered) THEY WERE SUING ME!! Her staff was incredibly rude and treated me like trash. I had never bounced a check before and since so much time had passed, I was in disbelief. I was furious!!!! I had been a loyal client of Impressions for years, never having any issue with payment except for this one time. The way they treated me, you'd think every check I ever wrote to them had bounced. I'd seen them twice a month for NINE MONTHS after the bad check and not one word was ever said to me!!!! It wasn't until one week before Christmas that I was notified of my impeding law suit?!?!?! When I finally got Trena on the phone, I again offered to bring her cash. I also made her aware of how her staff had treated me. She treated me like garbage. So now we know where her staff gets it from. This was an issue that could have been easily solved without any legal action any of the 20-ish times I came to her salon that year. Trena is obviously in need of a financial assistant to organize her office and a course in buisiness ethics. read more

This place gave me an impression but not the good kind. What made matters worse was that I posted on fb that for me this place was more like bad impressions. Then someone from the store took things to a whole other level. They lied that they offered me something to rectify the situation, which is not true. Then they proceeded to post that the poor experience was somehow my fault because I wasn't understanding enough since my service provider was running excessively behind. If I had been a client there before or if the communication had been better it probably would have been ok, not acceptable but I wouldn't have gotten as upset as I did. But for me their unprofessional manner on fb sealed the deal. Don't go to this salon if you're hoping for a good impression. read more

Finally had time to write this so here goes, I walked in without an appointment and they were so sweet and kind in accommodating me. I had just gotten the worst "haircut" at another salon in town. I was freaking out because I had a business trip in like three days and I couldn't leave looking like that. Rebecca was so sweet and gave me the best experience. Valerie and her Associate - Katherine (Catherine?) - were awesome, knowledgeable, down to earth, and complimented each other well. The salon was clean, lovely, and well maintained. I am so happy I found this salon! I went here to get my first deva cut and i'm extremely happy with how it turned out and how healthy my hair looks/feels. I highly recommend Valerie because she is very knowledgeable on all things "deva curl" related and she gave me some great tips on how to manage my hair. The only reason I even signed up for yelp was to write this review so ladies and gents please realize I went out of my way to write this review (and I'm not even the type that writes reviews) but I felt that I should share my horrific experience so no one experiences the hell I went through. First when I went there, I really like the scene and me being a curly headed gal, I really like the fact that the salon told me that my stylist specialized in "deva cuts". I couldn't believe I found a legit deva stylist in tallahassee and quickly booked my cut/color service. However, WHILE SHE IS CUTTING MY HAIR, I asked when she went to New York to get deva-cut certified and she said, "oh I just learned on YOUTUBE". THIS IS FALSE ADVERTISING because you have to be deva certified in order to claim that you can give this specific style of cutting. I should've walked out fo the chair right then, but went against my better judgement, and stayed in the chair. Long story short, I ended up looked like a poddle with uneven hair on one side and a short bob in the back?!?! It was horrendous. And then because I had used a different hair color line previously, my hair didn't take the redken color well and instead deposited random blonde/green streaks throughout. I left the salon very upset with my hair and when I spoke to Trena about a refund, she said I need to come back and get it fixed to see if they can help it first and then she would consider a refund. I gave Trena the benefit of the doubt and came back to try to fix the issues I had with my previous cut/color. Sadly, the color messed up AGAIN and we had to lose alot of length on my hair in order to shape it properly again. Ofcourse when I called Trena for a refund, she got an attitude with me and explained how they tried their best and how it's not their fault I didn't get the look I achieved, it's just how my hair took the color, that it didn't matter about the change in the color line. However, a month later, I just went to another hair salon and got it straightened and when we straightened it out my whole hair was uneven and the stylist told me that different color lines have different formulations and such and that going to a different color line could have resulted in the akward spotting of color I got. Basically, NEVER GO HERE. Trena is extremely rude when I asked about a refund since I had ruined hair TWICE after their attempt to fix it, through no fault of my own. If you value your hair and the integrity of your hair, go find another place because they lied about giving "deva-cuts", ruined my hair with a horrible cut, ruined my hair with horrible color. So yeah, do yourself a favor and find another place. Wish I received this advice before I wasted $100. read more
