I have been going to Awilda Salon for many years and she just keeps getting better. The last time I went to have a haircut and highlights, I had to call Awilda to let her know what happened. Within 30 minutes of leaving, I had received two huge compliments about my hair from complete strangers. One guy was standing behind me in line and said, "I have this friend who is really into hair and so I've been noticing these things and your hair is gorgeous." Five minutes later I was walking down the street (with a little strut in my step from the compliment) and wearing sunglasses. I ran into a neighbor and when I said hello, she looked at me like she didn't know me. I took off my glasses and she admitted she almost didn't recognize me. She said my hair had never looked better. I found this salon through Yelp and specifically booked an appt with Katie. I'm only going to comment on her work. My first visit to her I expressed to her my desire to change my hairstyle...she consulted with me about the cut and color change. In theory, what she was saying sounded good, but the execution was poor! My dark hair already had layers which were quite grown out. She decided to trim my hair overall and give me additional layers. She also suggested doing something different with my color and gave me highlights. My hair was blow-dryed and it looked good styled...I was a little disappointed with the color as it didn't meet my expectations, but overall thought it was styled well. After a few days, my hair looked like shit. I noticed how terribly cut my layers were. From the back, without styling my hair, it literally looked like steps, three steps or horizontal lines going across my hair when viewed from the back, starting 5 inches from my crown. Katie did not blend in my layers at all and it looked like a work of some amateur beauty student. How did the color come out? I looked like a cheetah....can you imagine, my dark hair and then I have thick blotchy orangey spots? It was embarrassing to say the least to be seen in public with that hair. I haven't had an embarrassing cut and color like that since high school when I didn't know any better and would go to my friend's backyard to get my hair done. Desperate to fix my hair, I made another appt giving Katie the benefit of the doubt and went back to her a week later so she could fix the color at least. I was a lil apprehensive about her fixing my layers, so I didn't bother asking her about the layers. I expressed to her why I hated the color and she very aloofly put a dark color over her shitty work. After she had the lady who sweeps the floor wash off the dark dye, she very coldly stated she had no time to blow-dry my hair since I didn't ask for it when I made my appt. I told her it was fine and if she can just dry the front of my hair. She barely did anything and left me in the chair, my hair dripping wet. The place was empty, except for another stylist working. Katie just walked away and started hanging out with the receptionist, blabbing away like she had nothing else to do. It was so transparent to me how much she disliked me for insulting her, to behave in such a unprofessional manner and take it so personally to that extent, unbelievable. read more

Love this salon- it's very laid back and lacks all of the snobby LA attitude that is pretty much the norm for most salons in the Beverly Hills area. I get my hair colored here and I have to say that Sabrina is one of the best colorists I've ever had. It's also pretty reasonably priced. It costs $100-$115 to get my full head of hair highlighted and I have LONG hair. Give it a shot! Edit: my favorite girl Sabrina doesn't work here anymore :( She relocated to San Diego but Awilda, the lady who owns the salon is also supposed to be amazing. read more

I've seen Heather once and that's enough to say Awilda deserves 5, 6, even 7 stars. I had trouble finding a place I liked that didn't have a pretentious Beverly Hills vibe. I felt comfortable from the very beginning and Heather knew exactly how to mix colors that would blend nicely with my previous color without looking patchy. She was great about communicating with me and talking about what kind of cut I wanted. She really wanted me to be happy... which made me happy! I needed to feed my meter halfway through the treatment and one of the staffers was kind enough to find my car and plug a few quarters in the meter to save my tail from a ticket. Then they offered to order lunch for me! They were really great and everyone went above and beyond the hairstyling call of duty. read more

This place is so great!! I've been coming Awilda Salon for about 8 years and I've never been disappointed. Everyone who works here is so friendly and they all make you feel comfortable and at home. Also, the products that Awilda uses are natural. First and foremost, Awilda is a color genius! She seriously has a gift. When I first came to her my hair was damaged from bad products from a previous salon. She has completely transformed my hair. Two other services I get are: the Brazilian Blowout and Scalp Treatments. My hair is usually frizzy and can be hard to manage. The Brazilian Blowout not only makes my hair look and feel healthier, but it makes it completely effortless. I get out of the shower and let it dry naturally and it looks amazing. The Scalp Treatment I get done is equally as amazing. Due to weather and allergies, my scalp gets dry and oily at the same time! It's terrible. Awilda uses a natural treatment that makes my scalp feel so clean and healthy. If you are looking for a salon with stylists you can trust and enjoy, this is the place. My only hesitation in writing this review is that I don't want it to start to become difficult to schedule appointments with Awilda -- she's so fantastic I can't *believe* how quickly she usually fits me in! My first visit to Awilda Salon was last December -- I just went for an updo for a party. She did a fabulous job and I got all kinds of compliments -- people said I looked like a movie star, so her updo definitely did the trick! This year I was sick, sick, sick of my hair. It's flat and straight and boring. I've always hated it even though other people (for reasons I cannot understand) always say they're jealous... trust me, people, having stick-straight, flat hair that won't hold a curl for ten minutes is no more fun than having curly, hard-to-tame hair. Anyway, I loved what Awilda had done with my hair for my updo, so I decided to try her out as a stylist. I went in not *really* sure what I wanted to do with my hair, figuring I'd just perm it or something. I just needed something *different*. Awilda took one look at my hair and begged me not to perm it. She said if that's what I really wanted she would do it, but she asked me if she could try layering it first, because she didn't want to damage my fine hair. So I decided to trust her and said okay -- and I'm glad I did! My new cut is fantastic and actually frames my face instead of just limply hanging there. Awilda is awesome! A week later she did my color for me, and it was also fantastic. It's red, which those of you who have gone red know is notorious for fading FAST... it's been two and a half months since I got it done, and people say they can still see the red (although obviously it's much fainter). I have already called to set up a return appointment. For a Beverly Hills salon these prices are not bad AT ALL. About 100 bucks for the color (and my hair is looooong -- it goes past my bra) and a little less for the cut. Both WELL worth the cost and then some. read more

Oooh! I love this salon! It's a quaint, peaceful and cozy slice of heaven in the midst of the bustle of S. Robertson Blvd in Bev Hills. HUGE PERK : parking in the back, so no need to run out to a meter every hour with foils in your hair! David Harrington was my cut / colorist / stylist and did an amazing job. He is super friendly and really understood my specific requests. He is also very confident (with SO MUCH EXPERIENCE) and suggested a few things that I left up to him (as I'm not an expert)! I've been going here for 6 years now. I followed a very talented hair genius for 20 years as he moved from one great Beverly Hills salon to the next. I was in all of them at one time or another following this addicted yet talented stylist. I did this because he always used the best products and my hair stayed in Wonderful shape for years. Then it finally happened... He went over the edge..on the day of my daughters high school prom. Devastated for her, fed up for me. I asked around and went to a highly recommended guy who ALMOST ruined my beloved hair in one visit! I almost cried when I saw my hair. Then it clicked, I knew a girl who had worked at Umbertos for years running his shop. I called her because I knew she knew everyone in town and she loves a good bargain. When I told her I needed someone to fix my hair, EMERGENCY, she said one word, "Awilda". I said??? She said you need Awilda, that's where I go. Whew!!! I called , she saw me the same day magically(she understood emergency). She fixed the color and helped sort out the damage caused and I've been there ever since. I wouldn't let anyone else touch my hair! On another note, I also love how calm and collected her salon is. There is no drama, no loudness, just spa calmness. Okay, so despite my mediocre appearances (reference profile photos), I am extremely anal about my hair. I mean come on, I'm 29 and I'm not balding (knock on wood), so hey, I have to take care of the 'do. My hair is really thick, and difficult to manage. I've been going to Katie for about five years now, and she does a great job. I can't speak to women's cuts, but she does great on guys. She's friendly and chatty and totally a cute person. And she always gives me a good cut... never been disappointed. She texturizes my hair, which is a necessity... nice that she goes the extra mile. I've been to various other people at Awilda over the years, and I've always been happy. Awilda (yep, it's her salon) does a great job, as did Sabrina, who's no longer there but filled-in for Katie when she broke a finger. My only complaint? The prices are a little bit high. $55 for a men's haircut? But at least you know what you're getting when you go. 4 stars for doing a great job, would give 5 but the pricing keeps it down at 4. At least they try to make amends... Katie sent me a ticket for a free haircut for Christmas ;) read more

Dave gave me a brazilian blowout and I'm very happy with the results. It was my first time so I was apprehensive, but he walked me through it and was realistic about how it would turn out (hair will be smoother/shinier, but not stick straight unless I blow dry which I never do because I'm lazy). It's a long process, but he was good about being fairly chatty but not talking my ear off (I like the chair time to catch up on my gossip mags). The salon has a great vibe too - chic but also laidback which can be hard to find in snobby BH. I would definitely go back to Dave but first I want to see how long my sleek hair lasts! read more

I found Awilda last year through Yelp when I was looking for a hairstylist closer to my home in LA (I had been visiting a stylist in Pasadena whom I loved but it wasn't very convenient to my schedule). When I booked the appointment, I advised the receptionist that I am biracial and have some hair issues (it's coarse, long, curly, and I wear it straight so I'd need it straightened as part of the styling). The receptionist confirmed with Awilda that she would be able to do my hair since it's able to be straightened with a blowdryer. I showed up about 10 minutes early for my appointment since it was very close to my apartment. Plus, parking in the back was a bonus. They offered me a drink which I found very nice. I didn't take advantage, but I wished I had when I was waiting for a while, looked at my watch, and realized that it was a half hour past my appointment time and I had not been seen yet. Once my appointment started, everything seemed to go OK. I'm not one for a bunch of chit chat -- I like to read a magazine and just generally keep to myself. Awilda seemed to respect that. However, due to the late start plus the abnormally long length of time it took to do my highlights, cut, and styling (there were some breaks while my hair was being done), I was late for another appointment afterward which was no good. My color and cut looked good, but I didn't love them as much as with my other stylist and I also paid more for partial highlights and cut than for full highlights and cut with my other stylist (even with the Yelp discount I received). I would probably go back here in a pinch and they do a good job, but for me, the pricing (especially given the wait) was a big drawback. read more

Recently, I was visiting LA and I REALLY needed to get my hair highlighted. I found the Awilda salon on YELP, and after reading the reviews, I chose this salon because of the good reviews and because most all said the people are very friendly. What a great choice!!!!!!! I found Awilda Salon when they were offering the Brazilian Blowout Treatment through Groupon. Coincidentally, that week I had already decided that I wanted to get the Brazilian Blowout (a.k.a. Keratin Treatment) to tame my frizzy hair... so when I saw Awilda's offer and its proximity to my job I immediately bought it. I visited the location and instantly loved the place. It smells delicious when you walk in and everyone there is upbeat, helpful and friendly. They offered me chips and a beverage, and were very attentive. Then, finally, I met my new hair stylist David, who was wonderful and very attuned to my hair care needs. He knew exactly how to work with my hair, which was amazing because most people run when they see my curly mane. He worked very thoroughly and efficiently making sure every strand on my head was completely smooth. He then styled my new haircut to perfection (I got bangs for the first time!) and when I walked out of that salon I felt like a sexier, more stylish version of myself. My hair is lustrous and shiny and I have not stopped receiving compliments on the new look. I even walk with a new spring in my step! It's all thanks to David and Awilda Salon. The service was excellent, and the prices are absolutely reasonable. I definitely plan on returning there in the future as well as referring all of my friends and family... especially my fellow curly girls! read more

I wasnt the actual person that had service here. It was fiancé who had her hair colored and cut by DAVE. He is a great colorist. We searched for a new colorist for some time. Because of my experience working for a color line I was very picky about helping choose someone that would show the attention she needed. Dave from beginning to end was infomative, honest and pleasant to be around. My fiancé went from a copper red to a copper blonde. And he could have just dyed her hair but he gradually lightened it to preserve her hair length. This to me was important as she has been growing her hair for sometime. Awilda fixed my hair color!! I could not get rid of a dark halo around my face that did not match my skintone. It had developed over time after used home kits and going to a backyard salon. So it was my very first time ever getting extensions I was very nervous bc my hair is very thin and wasn't sure if it was gonna turn out right, so of course I had to go to the best of the best who was Richard Grant, I've known him for years and knew I always wanted him to do my hair; so I figured this would be the perfect time. Sadly, after being a client since 2008, it is time to break up and move on to better hair and better customer service. It hasn't been the same since my old stylist Heather, got pregnant and moved on. Congrats to her, but sucks for us if you were her client. She was amazing!!. Since I am a transplant and moved back and forth from New York and LA several times, I always had two hair salons. One in New York and Awilda's in Los Angeles. I think they let the Beverly Hills adjacent location go to their heads, or maybe they are seriously thinking that those wanna be Hollywood Housewives are the bread and butter of the operation? Either way, the customer service is SHIT. I miss the days of Lisa at the front desk and Heather on hair! I had an appointment last Thursday that was moved by them for Saturday at 4PM. On Saturday at 3:45PM I received a call that they needed to push my appointment to 5PM because they were backed up. I walk in at 5PM and they were not ready. I went across the street, got a nail polish change and came back at 5:20PM, they still weren't ready for my hair appointment. At 5:45PM, as I am canceling my personal plans, I realized, why am I waiting around and being treated like I am not a paying customer and that they are doing me a huge favor by taking me at almost 6PM on a Saturday- after I sit waiting around rearranging my schedule as if it isn't as important as Awilda's, and last minute none the less? There were no special circumstances at the place, no wedding party on site, the place wasn't packed to the gills, so there was no excuse for all of that. Plus, if you are having trouble with the schedule, get a software that can make it happen. Don't schedule appointments you can't keep, and don't act like it's a huge favor when you're being/ about to be PAID for a service. The salon vibe itself is kind of off. It seems that Awilda and staff cater to these weird soccer mom types with delusions of Beverly Hills/Hollywood grandeur. At $95 for simple long layers, I thought the pricing was fair enough, but certainly not the shitty scheduling issues and the attitude from Awilda basically like: "oh well, better luck next time". My haircuts? They have not been anything extra fabulous. They always grow out really fast, hence my need for appoints every 3 weeks- they loose shape easily and my hair is naturally straight so bad layering or loss of a style shape shows. It is nothing spectacular or life altering that you can't find anywhere else. So I guess with all of that, it is time to find a place that values my monthly appointments/patronage, my money, my TIME and most of all MY Hair. read more

I've had long hair my whole life and finally decided I wanted to donate my hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. I was ready to make the leap to chop my hair off and try out a short style! I' m typically a supercuts kind of girl, and don't believe in spending a lot on my hair, but since this was going to be such a dramatic change for me, I was fine for paying more for someone to do a great job. After extensive research (much of it on Yelp), I decided on Awilda and booked with Katie. I brought in a magazine, showing her a picture of the style I wanted, and talking with her about a style that would be really low maintenance and at the same time have a lot of volume (which I think is good for bob styles). Although Katie loved the style in the magazine, she was honest in letting me know that it might not work out well based on the other things I was asking for (lo-maintenance, volume). She asked good questions, including whether or not I was planning on maintaing a short style or if I was going to grow it out. Since I wasn't sure at the time, she thought it was safer to go with a slightly different style. Since I was donating my hair, she sectioned it into four pieces , tied a rubberband , braided it, then rubber banded it at the ends. It was a great idea because it held together well! Katie was open to modifying the style as she was cutting my hair, I was asking her to cut a little more here, leave that there, etc. and seemed totally fine with it. At the end, I walked out feeling like I had a cut that fit me so perfectly, even though I've had long hair nearly all my life. One of my biggest fears about going so short was the possibility that I was going to be stuck with a haircut that incredibly bad and that I was going to come up with creative ways every morning to look decent going to work. Now it's been 7 weeks since my visit with Katie and it still looks great, it's growing out beautifully, which means that she did a really great job with the cut. Thanks Katie!!! read more

First, a little background on me: I used to work in a salon when I lived in Texas, so I was able to get my hair cut by a wonderful stylist every 4 weeks so my hair was always perfect. I used only the top of the line hair care and top of the line professional color. I received compliments on my hair daily. Then, the move to LA. I only get my hair cut a couple times a year, I use bottle color, and Pantene hair care. Shoot, I'm in LA, it gets a little expensive out here! So needless to say, my hair has been boring... until I went to Awilda! I found Awilda Salon here on Yelp and read the reviews and thought, "I'll give it a go!" Well I will tell you, I could not be happier with my hair. The receptionist had me describe my hair and paired me with Priscilla. Super cute girl, she was a little new at the time, but man, she did a great job and gives a GREAT scalp massage! Before the service, Priscilla sat down with me and we discussed what I don't like about my hair. She did not scoff at me when I told her that I use bottle color, or that I use Pantene, OR that it had been 6 months since I had my last haircut. She was incredibly sweet and we talked about music the whole time. Better yet, she did an AMAZING job with my hair! I have extremely thick hair that is very difficult to cut and I have been known to dull scissors, so typically, when a stylist first puts their hands in my hair I see the shock and the look of terror on their face in the mirror. I didn't get any of that from Priscilla. She put her hands in my hair and was ready to accept the challenge. I left the salon that day feeling more confident about my hair than I have felt in a LONG time. It has been a few months now, and the cut STILL looks good (I'm trying to grow it out)! I'm still very pleased and will definitely be going back! Not to mention, it's in Beverly Hills and the cut was $85. Not bad for that neck o' the woods if you ask me! read more

If I could go to a salon every day, I would choose this one. One day, on a relative whim, I called to ask if someone at Awilda could chop off about 10 inches of my curly blonde hair. The receptionist said, "How about Heather?" What commenced was the best hour and a half I have ever spent in a salon chair. Even though I'm young and kinda broke-looking, Heather was awesome. She was 100% up for the challenge, was hilarious, and never got cranky with me (even though I kept her at the salon until close to 8pm. I'm so sorry!) The haircut was AMAZING, and I would love to go back there. I'm growing out the shorn locks as we speak, and I'm pretty sure Heather would be the right girl to keep me out of mullet territory. The decor is delightful-- homey and warm, with adorable little bird drawings on all the wooden mirrors. They're quick to offer refreshments (and even offered fresh strawberries and fruit, because they're so nice!). I would recommend making an appointment, but I doubt these women would ever get angry if you marched in unannounced. They're the best! Next stop, a change in color, I think...
