My experience with Dr. Gallaspy and his office was extremely frustrating and unprofessional. I came in with legitimate health concerns and asked for a simple referral to an endocrinologist so I could have a wrist bone age X-ray evaluated. This is a very standard medical request, yet the office repeatedly refused and gave confusing and incorrect explanations. I was told multiple times that "he doesn't do X-rays," even though I clearly explained that I was asking for a referral so a specialist could evaluate me and order imaging if necessary. Instead of listening, the staff kept repeating the same misunderstanding and dismissing my request. It felt like no one in the office was actually hearing what I was saying. My interaction with Latoya in the back office made the situation even worse. The tone was extremely condescending and dismissive, and it felt like my concerns were being brushed off rather than taken seriously. Dr. Gallaspy ultimately did the bare minimum by agreeing to check estrogen levels after I had to push for it, but refused the endocrinology referral I requested and said the wrist X-ray was "not indicated." Meanwhile, birth control was pushed during the visit despite my concerns being about hormonal and growth evaluation. Patients should not have to argue just to be heard or ask repeatedly for reasonable medical requests. After this experience, I will be finding a new primary care physician who is willing to actually listen to patients and help coordinate appropriate care. read more

Dr. Lauren Self was super! She was personable, she was thorough with explaining what she was thinking in terms of bloodwork, and she was fast with the routine exams. I arrived early to my appointment and filled out the necessary paperwork as a new patient. I was called back in 10 minutes or less. Sharon was fast and friendly with vitals and recording my medical history. There are signs posted in the office's main lobby that if you have been waiting for 20 minutes or longer to let staff know. After my exams with Dr. Self, I was sent to the back waiting area for bloodwork. After waiting 35-40 minutes, I had apologized to Husband via text that he was waiting on me for so long, but all I was waiting for was the lab tech to draw my blood which is a fast process. He mentioned this to the front desk for me, and they were super prompt on getting this addressed so I was seen right away. I would refer anyone to see Dr. Self! read more

First off it took me years to be able to calm down enough to write this review. I finally decided that it was time to warn others. Two major problems: 1- The quality of the doctors: The doctor that was assigned to my wife was only one year out of school. She was nervous during the delivery and was unsure what to do. At one point the anesthesiologist grabbed her to the side and told her "calm down, I am here if you need me, I can come back to administer the epidural if needed, or I can stay if you want me to". Essentially, he was saying be calm and don't worry about me, worry about your patient. At one this doctor started contemplating the C section option. At that point one of the senior nurses took charge, coached my wife through the delivery, while the Azalea City Physician (one of the women pictured), stood to the side and watched. Maybe this is forgivable because of the lack of experience, the following is not. 2- Financial Fraud: Before the first appointment with this office, they insisted on a $2,000 deposit. They told us that once the delivery is done, and insurance "settles out", we would get refunded any unused monies. After the delivery, I contacted our insurance company and found out that we were owed back almost the entire amount because the insurance covered the delivery and associated costs. Azalea City Physicians for Women refused to give us our money back. After many phone calls to them and the insurance company, we found out that the amount in dispute between the insurance company and the office was $600 and that it was difficult for the insurance company to get a hold of them. Do you follow the fraud? Azalea City Physicians was more than happy to let this issue die down, because they are up $2,000. They were in no hurry to resolve it with the insurance company because that would mean that they would get back an amount substantially less than $2,000 and would then HAVE to refund the balance to the patient. As long as the patient didn't ask questions, they were keeping money that was not theirs. I wonder how many other customers have been defrauded that way. The biggest indicator of their fraudulent behavior is that when I was on a 3-way phone call with the insurance company and Azalea Family Physicians, the insurance company told them verbatim "our (meaning the insurance company) contract with you (Azalea City Physicians for Women) does not allow you to withhold money from our insured (meaning us) if you have a pending dispute with us". So, Azalea City Physicians were violating the terms of their agreement with the insurance company, in order to retain the full $2,000. It was at that point that I threatened to get an attorney involved and within one week we got our money back from them. Once again, I wonder how many families don't bother to ask that question. In those cases Azalea City Physicians keeps the money (while they are supposedly trying to resolve things with the insurance company), the insurance company give up on resolving the issue, because that means they don't have to pay the disputed amount, and the poor patient gets screwed. I had an appointment on may 2 @2:45 with Dr. McLean. I finally got called back after consulting the front desk.... Only to be put in the "extra" waiting room! Then I got in an exam room, almost an hour after my appointment time. After waiting naked for another 30 minutes and opening the door to ask the nurse how much longer I had to wait, she finally came in and seemed so rushed! She only spent about 5 minutes or so with me. Not my idea of a place I will recommend or go to again! She did apologize for the wait but made no explanation. My time is precious, too, not to mention I had driven an hour and a half for the appointment! read more

I had an appointment with Dr. Self at 10:45 am on a Monday after already having to reschedule my appointment because she was out of town for my last one. I arrive on time for my appointment and then proceed to wait for 40 minutes in the main waiting area. I finally get called back, only to be taken to the back waiting area where I wait for another 30 minutes. At this point I'm finally put in an exam room over an hour after my scheduled appointment where I spend another 20 minutes waiting for Dr. Self to show up. Throughout all of this there has been no indication that Dr. Self is running late or any apology for the delay and wasting my time and no indication of when I be graced by the Dr's presence. Then after waiting for over an hour the Dr. only spends 5 min in the exam room with me. If you want to have your time wasted and spend no true quality minutes with the provider then this is the place for you! Otherwise save yourself some time and go elsewhere. read more

I've been using Dr. Self for over 5 years now, and she's one of the best medical practitioners I use. She listens to my concerns and always gives excellent treatment. She's helped me through some difficult medical issues, and she recently delivered my first child. Sometimes I do have to wait a little while to see her, but it's well worth the wait. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. I also want to give a shout out to the staff. They are always polite and treat me like family. Azalea City Physicians is fantastic! read more

I made an appointment here today at 2:15. I asked for appointment with the doctor I seen last time, which was a female doctor. I was late by about 10 mins because I live in lucedale, ms which is an hour away and got lost because there is no signs on the outside of the many hospital offices around the area the address sent me to using gps. I called 3 times to try to get directions, but was put on held for 15 mins each time even after me asking to please not be put on hold. Then when I found the doctors office I was suppose to be at. I had to wait an hour before being called to the back. After they weighed me and asked me a few medical questions they said they'll put me in my room and go see where (he) is. I said I hope y'all didn't put me with a male doctor. They said you did not request a female doctor. I told them what I said over the phone which was that I wanted the doctor I had last time who was female. They left me in another waiting area and came back to tell me that I had to see the male doctor because they are too busy. I told them I have college and can not reschedule. I was left again and was told that I can see the female doctor if I wait 2 more hours. I asked if I can see the male doctor to ask about my concerns with my body and just not get the pat smear that I was scheduled for. They said I was not alone to do that either. I ended up leaving crying because of the way I was treated. The front desk workers tried to get me to reschedule but were rude about that also. I told them as I was leaving I will never come back again. I didn't leave until 3:45 read more
