OK I went to my doctor for my annual physical. She said come over to Azalea skin care get a cancer screening. I waited for 3 1/2 months for an appointment. I went through traffic on Highway 40. I was literally two minutes late they called me. I cannot find this place there is no sign on the main road so I told the lady I'm right over here. I can't find you guys. SHe said go cross the street come across the street come in the building and they like we're sorry man we can't see you because your appointment was at 10:45. I said my text message said 11 when I called she said 11 I tried to do the paperwork online didn't work out so she said well I'm sorry you gotta fill the paperwork in our provider needs to leave early today and so we're gonna have to reschedule so it doesn't matter that you took off the entire day at work because you live an hour away from here and you went through traffic on Highway 40 where there was a wreck in construction and you've been trying to get here just to do a skin cancer screening but you don't have time for me so if you like to go someplace where they don't have time for you, this might be you DO NOT wanna go here if you want to go where you're treated as an individual with respect excuse me your provider wants to leave early. Well, you know what kiss my ass you go ahead leave early you ain't never gonna get my business in a rush y'all if you go here, you know, it's pretty F&@&d UP, you might want to try a different dermatologist, maybe one that has respect for patients come one really what I wanted to say is I need to just get out of here cause it's Friday and I don't care about you as a patient or what you went through to try to get here cause it's not my problem so I am the ASSela I don't give a F about my patients dermatologist. Since 2019, I have had 6 basal cell carcinomas removed from my face, ear, shoulder, arm and leg. Most of the removals were done using the MOHs procedure, and Dr. Ketcham is one of the best at it. His staff is friendly and professional, and with each removal, I received their full attention and was very comfortable with the removal process. Dr. Ketcham is not fond of scars, and will do as much as he can to minimize them. read more

I went to Azalea Skin Treatment in Garner a few years ago. I went several times and never saw the doctor. The PA took a biopsy and sent it off. When I went back they said they didn't know what it was. I sat in that room almost 2 1/2 hours waiting for her to come in. I got up to leave and she finally came in and then told me she would be right back. Another 45 mins and she says use some cortisone cream. The doctor (Ketchum) I was told only sees patients who need surgery. When I ask how was he the ladies said @Depends on his day!) Don't waste your time. read more

I made an appointment, got there on time, was seen rather quickly, the staff have all been super nice and friendly and I am scheduled next week to have a small procedure. I am 56 years old and have never been compelled to write a review of a doctor's office before, but I am now. And I am writing this to look out for the interests of others. My family members have been patients here for over 10 years and we discovered that since 2011 this office had been charging a $40 copayment with the knowledge that we were NOT seeing an MD, which WOULD warrant a $40 copayment, but a PA or FNP which only requires a $25 copayment. And even when I brought it to their attention, they persisted In trying to overcharge us with my husband's visit in October and, more recently, my daughters visit yesterday. Please be aware of this or you might be overpaying on your copayment as well! On a positive note, their PA, Nicole Lindsey, is excellent and it is only because we enjoyed her services that we continued to seek treatment here, despite the ongoing problem with the office overcharging us. Unfortunately, after these repeated episodes, we have decided to seek treatment elsewhere. read more

I still can''t believe what happen to me! I went into the skin doctor with a patch similar to the one on the right thinking I had eczema. She said they needed to do a biopsy to treat it. So I trusted her and did what they suggested. My entire family had seen Dr. Ketcham. My daughter and husband had a cyst removed by him. He was fantastic. Fast forward to my visit. Shelly Bunting who is a FNP did the biopsy. It felt like she butchered my leg. I had 4 bloody bandies over 24 hours from it. Picture on the left. I was very concerned about the results. I was told it's a bug bite over the phone. It had reoccurred in the same spot over half a dozen times in the last two years. I've had several patches in multiple areas last two years occur. It's not a bug bite. So then it starts to infect. Nurse I talked to wasn't concerned told redness and swelling normal when they called about results a week after biopsy. Two weeks later it now has puss coming out, elevated temperature and told again to just put Vaseline on it. I was given an appointment three days later and that was today. Against their advise I started treating with Polysporin and Ibuprofen suggested by a medical friend. The story now becomes unreal . Kristen Beal the PA comes in and takes a look at it quickly tells me it's all normal and basically nothing is wrong. Then to appease me it might be a reaction to the stitches. She wants to pull them out or cut them out if needed. HECK NO!!!! I'm not a doctor but my dad was. He was a fantastic DO. He said that medicine is educated guessing and crappy doctors exist and if it doesn't make common since to you don't do it. ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION!!!! Cutting into an infected wound that a 6 year old could identify as infected visibly seems beyond absurd. Middle picture below is my infection. I had enough common since and education to decline being butchered for a second time. I walked out. I am not a confrontational person but I'm not going to pay someone to keep harming me. I then went to a Wake Med Walk In Clinic. Just as I suspected she believed the wound to be infected. Bad enough to give me antibiotics oral as well as topical. She also told me the stitches are dis solvable they don't need to be removed. I will never come back to this office again!!!!!! read more

Azalea Skin Treatment Center - Beyond infected they could of cared less. I ended up at a walk in clinic to get help. They were shocked by my story - Dermatologists Near Me - Garner, North Carolina

I went to Azalea for a year for the treatment of psoriasis which was caused by a prescription drug I took. I never saw the doctor. I saw a nurse practitioner the first visit who told me the drug I took didn't normally cause psoriasis and that it was probably genetic. NO ONE in my family has ever had psoriasis. That NP was retiring that week so I never saw her again. I saw a PA whose only job, in my opinion, was to convince me to take a biologic. Medicare does not cover biologics and Medicare patients are not eligible for patient assistance programs for biologics. I did not want to take a biologic anyway because of the side effects (tuberculosis and lymphomas, among others). On my second or third visit, the PA called in a prescription for clobetasol, a topical cream. The PA asked her assistant to look up the cream on GoodRX. They phoned in the prescription to Oak Ridge Pharmacy in Raleigh. When I got the prescription (it was delivered) it was a tiny tube of 30 grams for $50. I knew that tiny tube wouldn't last long, so I went on Good RX to see if there was a larger tube available. Imagine my surprise and disgust to discover that I could have gotten 60 grams of Clobetasol for $22 at Harris Teeter. Many other pharmacies had 60 grams for similar prices. My conclusion from this is that either PA Nicole and her assistant are incompetent or Dr. Fletcher has a financial interest in Oak Ridge and directs his staff to send prescriptions there so he will benefit. This might not be illegal but it is certainly unethical to purposely overcharge a patient for a medication. After a year when it became apparent to PA Nicole that she would not be able to talk me into taking a biologic, she basically washed her hands of me. I asked her about phototherapy and she said, well you can go to a tanning salon. The National Psoriasis Foundation specifically recommends AGAINST going to tanning salons because they don't use the correct light spectrum. Azalea was NO help at all. It is difficult to find a dermatologist in this area who actually wants to treat diseases of the skin. They all seem to want to run spas and practice aesthetic dermatology - giving botox shots and selling expensive, high end cosmetics. It is very frustrating. Don't waste your time on Azalea if you have psoriasis. All they want to do is dispense expensive biologics. I am not in San Francisco - I don't know how that got attached to my review. no one is perfect! but, aside from that, i have "no" problems with the good dr. or his staff! everyone is very nice and go out of their way to help you. if it were not for dr. ketcham, his good eye, and his curiosity, i would probably be dead now. he caught my cancer before it even showed up. i have had the pleasure of going to the top skin dr. in n. j. and when i came here to live i did the same. he is the best! don't judge him by appt. or ins. problems, judge him by his work! thank you all at azalea's in garner...... read more

We are always met with a friendly, professional manner and feel well informed when we leave. Go somewhere else. The front desk staff was very pleasant, but that's where my good experience ended. I had a bump on my forehead examined and then removed. I was told beforehand that it would be easy, "a stitch or two" and that was it. I went in for my procedure and the nurse in the room had the worst bedside manner I've ever experienced. I asked how painful the numbing shots would be in my forehead, I got a shrug and, "I dunno. There are more nerves in your face than most other places." Ok. Then I asked how large of a scar I could expect. Response: *Shrug*. I then mentioned that I was actually pretty nervous...the nurse flat-out didn't respond. Then the Dr. came in and I asked the same question because it was ON MY FOREHEAD. He responded, "Plastic surgery is doesn't exist! If you get cut, you'll have a scar!!" So, the procedure started, and he ended up stitching for a while...mind you, I was told, "A stitch or two..", so I asked how many stitches were going in my face. The answer, "As many as I need." It was finally over, the dr. immediately left, and I asked the nurse how many stitches were in my forehead. "I dunno." At this point I looked directly at her, said that she was currently LOOKING at them, how many were there?!! About 10. I was then told to keep vaseline on the incision, but the discharge paperwork said to not put it on the steri-strips, which covered the incision. The didn't warn me that my head was going to swell up, and that I would have a raging headache for the next few days and it would ache to move my eye. They didn't tell me to expect that my forehead above the incision would lose all feeling for almost 6 months, then I would have what felt like constant pin pricks on my forehead as the nerves grew back. And after all of that, they never even called me with the results or put them on the recorded line. I had to call a few times after the time-frame had passed. Finally I got, "Oh yeah, that was just scar tissue." Absolutely horrible, and now I'm left with a noticeable scar on my forehead. read more

With only one prior experience visiting a dermatologist, I had some anxiety in this visit to remove a mole and check for skin cancers. I was very happy for the friendly and prompt service I received. They scheduled my appointment very promptly I will give them that! However maybe they shouldn't have because I sat in the waiting room for over 45 minutes until I was seen. The receptionist told me it would be a $90 fee upfront and did not disclose to me that I needed to pay for any extras example biopsies upfront as well they would not and refused to build me I couldn't pay the $350 upfront so they wouldn't biopsy me I knew my health was important and they didn't care so I went ahead and use my credit card. I find that very insensitive if I was billed I would make payments on the bill and be prepared to pay the money was not prepared! read more

I wanted to go to this clinic because they are in Garner and local for me, but I never could get an appointment. I sure tried. My doctor referred me and said Azalea would call me to make an appointment, which they never did even after 1 week. So I called Azalea and left a message to get an appointment, and they never called me back. So I called again and finally got a person on the line. She put me on hold for 10 mins and never got back with me, so I hung up. I got a different referral from my doctor and am going elsewhere. What a shame their customer service is so poor. read more

I'm not sure what all the negative reviews are about, and I certainly can't speak as to someone else's experience, but OURS was wonderful. Both my husband and myself have been seen here, and we cannot say enough, positively, about Dr Ketcham and Nurse Shelley. My husband had to have a melanoma removed and they were so kind, patient and understanding. Nurse Shelley even made sure to call me the MINUTE she received the results, just to keep me from worrying. Today, I went in to have a check and had a "spot" removed. It was quick and painless, and again I was assured that results will be delivered, ASAP, and I have no doubt that they will. Dr Ketcham, the nurses, staff, and front desk personnel have made us feel welcome and comfortable each and every visit, and we won't be going anywhere else for Dermatology. My advice? Go see for yourself and then make your decision. That's what we did and we are very glad we did. read more

It has been about 4 years since we visited them. At first we were scared into several procedures that now that I know more, and have visited other dermatologists, I honestly think they cut just to cut (and charge our insurance). If something doesn't sound correct, I would highly recommend a second opinion and I really wish we had gotten one sooner. Turns out everything was fine and there was no medical reason at all to go through all that. Now we just do the yearly checks with another derm in town and everything is fine. Soooo arrived at office 10 mins late because when I googled them their wrong address came up. Once at office I provided them with a picture of my new insurance card because we have yet to receive our actual cards. Lady at front didn't say she needed any additional information. I proceeded to wait 55 minutes past my appointment time. When I went to the window to ask how much longer it would be, I was told that they hadn't sent my chart back yet because they were verifying my insurance. Really?!?!?! If they needed additional information why didn't they ask? Why leave someone waiting 55 mins past their appointment time without telling them why?? When I again asked how much longer it would be, another lady in the front office got snippy and said they couldn't help if BCBS put them on hold for 30 mins. I told her to cancel the appointment and she simply said "Fine". All of this was handled very unprofessionally. I have worked in medical offices most of my adult life and know there's no excuse for the way I was treated. I will NOT be back. Oh and according to several of their patients in the waiting area, it is common practice for them to go 30+ mins over your appointment time. My time is valuable! read more

I've utilized several other services that they offer and have enjoyed the results and the experience. They are very friendly. I have rarely had to wait long to see who ever I was secheduled to see. I've had several bad experiences with Azalea Skin Treatment Center and Dr. Ketcham over the years. 1. I had a 4:00 PM appointment and was still in the waiting room at 5:15. I told the woman at the desk that I was going to reschedule, because I didn't want them cutting on me when they were tired and in a hurry to get done and get home. She said I would likely be charged a missed appointment fee if I left. I stayed. 2. A few years ago Dr. Ketcham started pawning me off on a nurse practitioner. When he had done my head-to-toe examination, he almost always found spots to biopsy, and at least one of them almost always came back positive. When the NP examined me, she often found nothing unusual, nothing to test. The last 2 appointments, I asked specifically to see Dr. Ketcham rather than the nurse practitioner, and was assured I would see him. Once in the exam room, in came the NP. "Dr. Ketcham is busy, so I'll be examining you today." He did come in eventually, after I insisted, just to check a few spots I was concerned about. 3. Three years ago, I had a spot on my ear that wouldn't stop bleeding and scabbing over. He looked at it and said it was just a [insert medical term here], nothing to worry about. At my appointment a year later, 2 years ago, it was still bleeding, and I voiced my concern about the spot. He looked at it, said it was nothing to worry about. No biopsy. Some mornings, my pillow looked like I'd been in a knife fight in my sleep. I decided to find a new dermatologist. Dr. Flynn took one look at my ear and said, "It's almost certainly a basal cell carcinoma. We'll biopsy to be sure, but that's what it is." It was positive. I had Mohs surgery on my ear 3 weeks ago, spent 5 hours in the chair, and had a 1.5 centimeter hole cut in my ear, all the way through the cartilage. The wound was so big, they had to do a skin graft, cutting a chunk from my neck to patch the hole in my ear. Two years in a row Ketcham had a crack at it, and missed it. 4. Several years ago, Dr. Ketcham played inflammatory talk radio while he was operating on me, elaborating on it while conversing with his staff, and creating an uncomfortable environment. Political propaganda was spread throughout the waiting room. read more

He performed surgery on my arm and removed a fatty cyst. Several years later you don't even notice where the incision was made, and I love it! If I could rate any lower I would. I went here yesterday because I have severe eczema, have had eczema since birth basically, and I wanted to have them look at my skin and see if there's something to ease the symptoms and make my skin look clearer and help with complexion. I tried all products you can think otc and doctor recommended. I was a new patient so when I called to schedule at the beginning of September, when my breakout was at it's worst, the could only get me in the 26th, I understand. Therefore my skin cleared up some but it wasn't flared. Dr. Crystal was the one who saw me and said nothing looks wrong with my skin and that there's nothing she can do because it looks fine. My skin wasn't flared up in whelps like earlier this month but the rash was there. She said come back when you have a severe breakout as you described and then we might can do something about it. The thing is, is that it's getting cooler with the weather and I don't have breakouts too much in the winter, if any at all. I told her just that and she said "if it's next week or next year you have to come back, do that because you're skin looks fine now." Thank God I didn't have a copay!!! But I was highly disappointed and I dealt with my skin problems long enough to know I need doctor proscribed medicine/assistance. That appointment lasted no longer than 7 minutes. By far, the worst experience I have ever had with a doctor. I went in because I am a hairstylist and was having major hand eczema issues, as well as some sort of an allergic reaction on my face. The front desk staff seemed inconvenienced by my presence, and when the doctor entered the exam room and asked why I was there, I could barely answer before she started talking over me. She basically dismissed my concerns, ie saying "Your hands don't look that bad to me but I will prescribe you a stronger steroid", and "I don't see anything wrong with your face". There was not a shred of empathy or compassion involved in my visit. I was so turned off by this that I actually asked for my co-pay back! Of course, they did not oblige, which is fine, because hopefully by writing this review others will know not to waste their time nor money visiting this practice. Upon visiting a different dermatologist in Raleigh, I was tested for skin allergies which came back positive for 5 different chemicals commonly found in hair color and skin care products. Now my hand eczema, which was once crippling and threatened my livelihood, is finally under control. Thanks to a different doctor- NO THANKS to Azalea Skin Center in Garner NC.... read more

I have been going here for about 8 years, and was originally referred by my child's pediatrician to treat his acne. We love Dr. Ketcham and staff. It isn't difficult to get an appointment, and we never have had to wait more than 20 minutes. Our entire family has seen them at one time or another, and they were even able to stop a potentially bad case of shingles on my leg (only had 5 spots) before things turned really ugly! Years ago, before discovering Dr. Ketcham, I went for my yearly skin check with another "renowned" dermatologist practice in Raleigh. Two weeks later, I took my son to Azalea for the acne. I mentioned I had a spot that was itching on my chest, just below my neck. Cathy Poole took a look at it and she said they would biopsy that spot just to make sure. It came back as squamous cell carcinoma. I was so thankful that the staff took the time to do that, and that they cared about me, even though I was there for my son. They went the extra mile, and for that, I am very grateful. I obviously changed dermatologists, and refer all my friends when asked who would I recommend for any skin issues. read more
