I think it's fair to say that most people wouldn't think of Farmington, New Mexico as a golf…read moredestination. However, the staff at Piñon Hills are doing everything they can to change that. The Ken Dye design is truly epic as it winds around cliffs and over gulchs that are ready to swallow your sleeve of featheries. I think a bit more difficult than your average muni and just as good of a deal make this course a great way to spend one of your vacation days. Mesa Verde National Park and Durango, Colorado are just a short drive from here giving you plenty of things to do while you're in town. The place is in need of a renovation, it's old and looks like a scene of That 70's Show. The furniture is newer and very comfortable, I wanted to take a nap but I needed to stay awake for my business meeting. The staff really isn't too friendly and they keep to themselves. I looked around and see a lot of golfing memorabilia. There is a bar and a restaurant plus a swimming pool that's drained. The food was decent and the server made sure that we never ran out of snacks and drinks. In my humble opinion, this place reminds me of a place where retired good ole boys hang out and look down at the help....that's just my opinion and I hope that I'm wrong about that.

We played ponderosa and meadows on a Monday at 10 am…read more. ponderosa is a classic thru the woods cut course shielded somewhat from the hi winds - course conditions were good in general. Pace was good too 18 holes in 4.1hrs.. meadows course was flatter and open with variable course conditions from wet spots to bumpy greens/ geese dropping s challenging a few of the holes. Worth a round for the experience yet I would recommend stick to Pinon and ponderosa if you get a choice . What needs improving is 1 the cart paths are rough and 2 please don't run irrigation sprinklers while customers are playing a normal paced round sprinklers should be on a timer and run after sundown.

Played Pinon twice, 3 holes in the pines, other 6 holes much flatter. Not as wet as meadows and no geese or goose poop. 3rd nine is ponderosa. Back up in the pines. Very nice layout on all 3 nines. Green in decent shape. Moderately priced. Staff friendly. Would recommend, it's the only course in the area other than driving to Durango an hour away.
