It's hard for a Mexican restaurant to stand out in any way- most of them have similar vibes, similar food, same old same old. But Azteca D'Oro has done a great job being unique in the way they have decorated and set up their aesthetic. From the cool, medieval looking chandeliers to the paintings and the way the bar is so grand looking with cases of high-end, rare alcohol bottles. I'm a fan. On one side of the restaurant there are a lot of big tvs as well, so you could come hang out to watch a sports game and have a great time. The food was decent, it wasn't outstanding but it was good and enjoyable. I got the molcajete which literally could be shared between 3-4 people on its own. They have fun drinks too, as Mexican restaurants do- the paloma was a highlight. We did have great service- I'd give that part 5 stars to our waitress Claudia. Ordered online and went to pickup. Arrived about 5mins before food was set to be ready. Decided to order Al pastor tacos as well. They came out hot and fast. Asked about online order and was told they were boxing it up. Food was cold and had to be completely reheated when I got home. It was a little rough getting into the parking lot, but it was worth it. Waited a little long for someone to seat me...even though I was the only person at the hosts stand. Once I was settled at my table, I didn't have to wait long. I gave the server my complete order and off she went. Very pleasant, but quiet. I didn't wait too long for my food, but oddly enough, I waited even longer for my drink. The server actually noticed I had not received my drink when she was bringing my plate to me and turned around and grabbed it. The plate was pleasing to look at, and the tacos were full. I enjoyed the chicken, it was season just right. The rice and beans were both well prepared, not overdone and full of flavor. When we just moved to the area from SE Florida, our family became so excited to see that our favorite Mexican restaurant was up in Central Florida. We've since eaten here multiple times, with the service gradually declining each time, despite generously tipping. Last night, (12/19), was probably the last straw for us. We recognized that there were many parties going on and knew immediately to be patient. We were seated almost immediately with drink orders taken shortly afterward. We placed our food orders and sat patiently as a family, playing random games on our devices. Hubs and I received our first drink orders in a timely fashion, and proceeded to wait patently for our food and converse. To our back left, there was a holiday party that was wrapping up their celebration. They had been laughing and enjoying themselves abundantly (to put it nicely) while we were placing our order. The waiter and ourselves were having a hard time hearing and understanding one another. We carried on and tried to make the best of the situation. Tis the season! Well, the crowd started to get louder and louder. We started noticing that our waiter was getting crabbier and crabbier as the joyous celebrations of the party behind us grew higher in volume. Other patrons started glancing more and more towards the table behind us. The manager started hanging out around their table more and more, failing to attempt to keep the volume at an acceptable level. We finally received our food, noticing that our waitress failed to listen to our requests for omissions to onions and no refried beans on two of our entrees. We didn't mention it, as we thought it was due to the noise level. When my husband and i requested a second round of drinks, the waitress proceeded to groan and trapped off and disappeared for close to 30 minutes. Meanwhile, the table behind us grew louder and louder, to the point where I started to grow angry, due to over stimulation of the noise level. The waitress returned to the table behind us, attempting to wrap up their check... We were still waiting on our second drink orders that were still taking way too long from the bar. The waitress was ignoring our table and tending to the party behind us and others, but kept forgetting a second order of beer. When had to single her out nicely to ask for our check. She gave us a dirty look and said something unintelligible to our 16 year old son, stomping off. The finally brought out second drink orders, along with the check. She asked if my oldest wanted a box due to having the majority of his food left. (He hated refried beans, & how asked they be omitted from the entree.) we declined and she proceeded to give my son ANOTHER dirty look. We neatly stacked our plates, clearing stray food off the table and neatly placed cutlery on the plate, so that she wouldn't have to do it. Between the server and the annoying crowd behind our table, and the quality of the food being less than it has in the past, we're going to venture to Lakeland for our other restaurants instead of going to this location in the future. Manager: do better at not over serving your patrons! The people behind us were intensely intoxicated and were obnoxious and loud!! I know we were not the only customers who were upset about the outbursts of the other patrons. There just should be some boundaries to the noise level. read more

We moved to Lakeland in late April from Virginia Beach and seeking a good Mexican restaurant. This place was super clean and had some cool decor. Now for the import part the food... i had the Macho Burrito and my wife had Chicken fajitas. We both were really pleased with our meals and the service was decent. We didn't see our waiter often but the rest of the staff picked up the slack. By a long shot this was the best Mexican food we've had since moving to the area. We'll go back. There are several Azteca locations but this recent visit to the Lakeland location was my first time dining at one. The atmosphere is nice, they've done a good job with color and the lighting is well done. I liked all the elaborate hanging lamps. We were seated promptly and a server arrived quickly to take our drink order. Shortly after that a basket of chips and accompanying salsa arrived. The salsa was good, not terribly spicy but fresh with lots of cilantro flavor which I like. Sadly no photo was taken of our meal, and I had a dish off the "Limited Time Only" menu, "The Tres Amigos". It contains (according to the menu) "a poblano chili stuffed with cheese and dipped in an egg batter. Topped with molcajete sauce, creama Mexicana, and CotiJa cheese. Accompanied by Pork Chili Verde and Chili Colorado". Served with a side of beans, rice, and tortillas (corn or flour choice). While it was all delicious, to me the best of the three was the chili Colorado. My date had Carnitas burrito stuffed with Mexican rice, refried beans, onions and green peppers. Topped with burrito sauce and a blend of Jack and CotiJa cheeses. Topped with green onions, pico de gallo, and sour cream. Also came with a side of beans and rice. It was a massive burrito. We both took some of our meal home since as always it's easy to fill up in chips and salsa! The portions are generous so you won't leave hungry. Will definitely be returning. read more

I hate writing bad reviews but I would be remiss if I didn't review this place. I've had better Mexican food from $4 entrees at food trucks. I had a shrimp taco and steak enchilada combo. 1- who puts shrimp taco in a hard shell? It just gets soggy. 2- totally overcooked, dry tasteless shrimp. Exactly the same for the steak enchilada. My dinner was $26 and it was awful. I really think I would have enjoyed Chipotle more! My hotel was only 1/2 mile from the restaurant. Food was cold and flavorless. The issue I have it was 25 dollar's. Are you kidding me? It's not fine dining or even worth it. Yes maybe the biggest burrito I've had, but if I'd known the price no way in hell I'd got it. Just so everyone knows I'm a inventory control specialist for a restaurant. I order our products and do food costs. That meal should cost around 6 dollar's to make and was charged 25. We decided to try Azteca D'Oro because our usual Mexican restaurant had a 30 minute wait. We called this place, which was just a few minutes away, and they said they had no wait. We drove over and got seated right away. At the very top of the first page of the menu there is a photo of the chips and salsa with a note that the first serving is free but additional servings are charged for. I have eaten in many Mexican restaurants and NEVER seen a charge for refills of chips and salsa. With four of us, this small serving did not last long. I requested to have just a small sample of the soup on the menu and our waitress denied the request, which again, has never been a problem at any other restaurant I've been to. She was not very friendly and mostly curt. We ordered our meals and they arrived promptly by someone other than our waitress but we realized we had no utensils or plates and had to wait a good 5 minutes, all the while sitting right under a cold AC vent that cooled our food pretty quickly. Another server passed by, so we asked her for silverware and plates, which she happily brought for us, along with a refill of the chips at no additional charge. The food was just okay for being more expensive than our usual establishment. We decided we would not return to this restaurant. read more

Stopped by for lunch today ordered ceviche and chick and steak fajitas and a modelo beer. I sat at the bar I asked for a plate. Bartender gave me a wet plate I'm assuming he just dipped in soap Water and gave it to me. So I decided stay and taste what's left n the menu. If I could give it a zero I would. The shrimp was rubbery and the chicken was dry and fajitas on had onions rice and beans was ok. Never finished the ceviche it was awful. I have been this restaurant before in Brandon Florida at the Brandon Mall. I would suggest going there instead. Meanwhile while asking for the check the bartender asked if I wanted to take it home and I replied why would I do that. The food is horrible!! I had to race a huge thundercloud to get inside, and I'm so glad I didn't let the threat of bad weather stop me. What a treat this turned out to be! From the decor to the drinks, I enjoyed the heck out of this place! I stopped by around 3 p.m. on a Friday which was a nice quiet time, and sat at the bar. It was already happy hour so my house margarita (large and more potent than the usual house offerings at other places) was two-for-one. (And the bartender was really nice) For dinner, it took awhile to decide, since the menu is pretty large. I ended up choosing tortilla soup for an appetizer, which was really tasty, piping hot and chock full of avocado and chicken. And for an entree, I had the chicken enchiladas verde. The menu mentions the special flavor of the sauce, and they're right: it's more tart or tangy than most verde sauces... not as peppery or spicy-hot... but still really flavorful. I liked it a lot. It's served with white or Mexican rice and black or refried beans, but you can substitute both for a $1.49 up-charge. I went with steamed veggies-which were well done and what a generous amount! I was also pleased with the Covid-19 precautions: 50% capacity, lots of social distancing and hand sanitizer everywhere. Everything seemed very clean and the employees wore masks. Mexican restaurants are spearhead to find, why? Mostly because there's too many variations between "TexMex" or "Spanish" food etc. this place is clean and very chill. The food is always good. Obviously it can be bad depending on what you order but I for one go for the carne asada or grilled steak. It's thinly sliced and cooked to order. The tortillas are homemade. Beer ice cold! Came here with a bunch of my friends for lunch for a birthday lunch. Service wasn't the best. My friend ordered a taco salad with beans and no meat. She had to send it back because it had meat on it. Great! The Molcajete Azteca meal is beyond amazing!!! Photo does it no justice. This spot has EXCELLENT customer service- our server and the manager completely understood that my husband did not like and was unable to eat his enchiladas en mole. The mole sauce was not working for his taste buds. They removed it and added a cheese sauce, which he loved. That level of customer focus is remarkable. We will be back for sure. read more
