It's hard for a Mexican restaurant to stand out in any way- most of them have similar vibes, similar food, same old same old. But Azteca D'Oro has done a great job being unique in the way they have decorated and set up their aesthetic. From the cool, medieval looking chandeliers to the paintings and the way the bar is so grand looking with cases of high-end, rare alcohol bottles. I'm a fan. On one side of the restaurant there are a lot of big tvs as well, so you could come hang out to watch a sports game and have a great time. The food was decent, it wasn't outstanding but it was good and enjoyable. I got the molcajete which literally could be shared between 3-4 people on its own. They have fun drinks too, as Mexican restaurants do- the paloma was a highlight. We did have great service- I'd give that part 5 stars to our waitress Claudia. Overall, I'd come back for sure, even just to enjoy the chips, salsa & queso.

Our server was amazing. And the new four sample dip was great!! We had steak fajitas and the new lamb meal.

It was a little rough getting into the parking lot, but it was worth it. Waited a little long for someone to seat me...even though I was the only person at the hosts stand. Once I was settled at my table, I didn't have to wait long. I gave the server my complete order and off she went. Very pleasant, but quiet. I didn't wait too long for my food, but oddly enough, I waited even longer for my drink. The server actually noticed I had not received my drink when she was bringing my plate to me and turned around and grabbed it. The plate was pleasing to look at, and the tacos were full. I enjoyed the chicken, it was season just right. The rice and beans were both well prepared, not overdone and full of flavor. I will reevaluate three stars when I return for another visit, today, the service was just a little off. Maybe next time it will be a better day. I truly enjoyed the food though

To say this place was great, is an understatement! The food was great, the beer was SUPER COLD! Also, Cristal was an awesome server!! She even had a large party she was taking care of and she still took fantastic care of us too!! I'm in Lakeland once or twice a year, this will be my new go to spot in Lakeland for sure!! If you're in the area, stop in and grab a beer or a meal, and tell Cristal I said hi! You'll be glad you did!

We moved to Lakeland in late April from Virginia Beach and seeking a good Mexican restaurant. This place was super clean and had some cool decor. Now for the import part the food... i had the Macho Burrito and my wife had Chicken fajitas. We both were really pleased with our meals and the service was decent. We didn't see our waiter often but the rest of the staff picked up the slack. By a long shot this was the best Mexican food we've had since moving to the area. We'll go back. They have hand sanitizer around the restaurant. Staff is wearing masks and seating every other booth.

As in Orlando this is a great place with a family oriented environment and service. A real Mexican food in a very nice decorated dining room. Hood for lunch, dinner or any kind of event. Well done, great location!

Azteca d' Oro was our Valentine's Day date spot this year, our first time going since they opened a few months ago in Lakeland. The service was wonderful. The drinks (mojitos) were bland.. no flavor! Maybe they gave us colored water... not sure really,But they did look pretty. The veggie burrito was BLAND, capital letters because how do you not have flavor from the veggies?! But the Guacamole was amazing! I probably will not go again but if I do I would try something else. The free chips and salsa didn't excite me either. ‍

I hate writing bad reviews but I would be remiss if I didn't review this place. I've had better Mexican food from $4 entrees at food trucks. I had a shrimp taco and steak enchilada combo. 1- who puts shrimp taco in a hard shell? It just gets soggy. 2- totally overcooked, dry tasteless shrimp. Exactly the same for the steak enchilada. My dinner was $26 and it was awful. I really think I would have enjoyed Chipotle more! My hotel was only 1/2 mile from the restaurant. Food was cold and flavorless. That being said, I love hot salsa... but theirs was blazing and not great. Good chips though

I've been to other Azteca D'Oro locations, but this is the best so far. Service by Bianca was fast & wonderful- done with a smile. Food was delicious and prices are decent for the amount of food one gets.

Ok so been here a few times. Which is what I usually do before I post a review. We'll talk about service first. My server was attentive and polite. She was always checking on me for drinks and how I was doing. The reason for my bad review is simple. The menu had all prices blanked out. I ordered the carne asada burrito which I do like. The issue I have it was 25 dollar's. Are you kidding me? It's not fine dining or even worth it. Yes maybe the biggest burrito I've had, but if I'd known the price no way in hell I'd got it. Just so everyone knows I'm a inventory control specialist for a restaurant. I order our products and do food costs. That meal should cost around 6 dollar's to make and was charged 25. If I do go back and prices not on menu will straight Walk out because you guys are gouging prices.

Thanks, Yelp! When I was hungry after antiquing, you led me here. Nice work!…read more I'm not overly familiar with the Lakeland dining scene (I probably owe it to myself to change that), so needed help satisfying my constant craving for Mexican. The Yelpiverse offered several options. The many mentions of kind service drew me here. And indeed, Yelp was right on. Alex was amazing. He was so friendly and helpful-never made me feel rushed. That was just the thing I needed, after a long work week. So, Tapatio's is on Memorial, not far from Lakeland High School. It's a cute, golden yellow building with several beautiful flower planters and crepe myrtle trees out front. It's eye-catching and yes, there's a big private parking lot. Inside, it's big but cozy. There are two separate dining areas: one up front, facing Memorial. The other is along the side. I was seated in the front area. It's colorful, comfy and homey. There's a wholesome vibe here that makes me wonder if this a family operation. I felt very welcomed. And I absolutely loved the complimentary chips and salsa. The fresh, light chips were served warm and came with two salsas: regular-and a side of spicy, that you can mix in with the regular to your ideal heat level. The menu is large... and it took me a long time to decide. Alex was so patient. I had a margarita, which wasn't too sweet (yay). I also ordered a small side of queso blanco dip and a side of flour tortillas. Frankly, I was stuffed after that, but I didn't want to miss out on anything-so I ordered the lunch "pick two" and went with two tacos: one hard taco with beef and one soft taco with chicken. It came with one side-I went with rice. What a great value for money this was: a huge helping for $11.95! The tacos were stuffed full of meat, that was cooked well. I really enjoyed all the little extra touches here, the attention to detail. There was a paper doily under the cheese dip cup, on the little plate. I liked the engraved logo on the wooden salt and paper shakers on each table and all of the wall art and decor objects. You can tell the owners/staff care about the business and the customers. I wish them all good things and huge success.

It's family-owned, simple, traditional nothing fancy, but the flavor more than makes up for it. On top of that, the family running the place couldn't be more humble and welcoming. I tried a gordita for the first time; a homemade tortilla stuffed to perfection. Everything is made fresh to order, even the tortillas. You can actually see them working their magic behind the counter, mixing the batter, molding, frying, and cooking right there in front of you. We ordered four gorditas; two carnitas and two steak: each one loaded with mozzarella cheese, sliced avocado, crema (their version of sour cream), onions, and cilantro. Oh my God, now I understand why it's called a gordita -- it's packed! For the price, you can't beat it. Two gorditas filled me up, and for about $12 total, it's a steal!!! The quality, freshness, and homemade taste easily surpass most restaurants charging twice the price. We also tried their chilaquiles -- another knockout dish. They use the same homemade tortillas, cut and fried, then topped with their house-made red or green salsa (depending on how much heat you can handle), Mexican cheese, crema, onion, and cilantro, all served over rice and beans with two perfectly fried eggs on top. The green salsa packs more spice, but the red can be blended to your liking. Every bite was pure comfort and flavor. They even make their own chicharrones from scratch and serve authentic Mexican sodas like Coca-Cola in the tall glass bottles; the ones made with real cane sugar, not the syrupy stuff we're used to here. Now, let me be clear -- if you're one of those people who expect your food within five minutes, this isn't your spot. Everything here is made fresh, from scratch, and that takes time. People who truly know and appreciate homemade cooking understand that real food doesn't happen within five minutes. So come in, relax, and let them cook. Let them pamper you with their gift of delicious food. Don't rush them, and don't get impatient, this is a humble family who takes pride in perfection. I guarantee you won't find the same level of flavor, love, and authenticity anywhere else. So far, we've tried two items from the menu, and both were absolute hits. We'll definitely be coming back! Not just because the food is amazing, but because we love supporting humble, hardworking families who pour their heart and culture into every dish they serve. Taqueria El Gordo is a must-try gem for anyone who appreciates true homemade Mexican food made with love. There isn't any other like them here in Lakeland!
