I keep coming back here! I really love the food and so does my family. The shrimp quesadilla is amazing. It is filled with mozzarella cheese and grilled shrimp. It is so delicious! My absolute favorite! My brother Jonathan loves the chicken fajitas. Be sure and ask for extra tortillas. He also gets a side of mozzarella cheese. I recently visited Plaza Mexico for dinner after being invited by friends. From the outside, this restaurant seems like your typical Americanized Mexican restaurant with the aesthetic of a Chili's. Thus, I was skeptical and had not previously planned to visit. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. I ordered the Enchiladas Bandera. The dish was massive. Savory tortillas were filled with tender chicken, seasoned beef, and super gooey cheese. Green and red sauces topped the enchiladas with a nice spiciness and flavor. The side of rice was soft and savory and the refried beans were creamy. Overall, Plaza Mexico is one of the better spots in Lakeland for quality Mexican food. read more

Big prices slightly offset by big portions (the only reason this is a 2 and not a 1 star review). The beef chimichangas tasted like cinnamon. The salsa was a little spicy and a lot not tasty. The chips were a little stale. Our waitress was barely around and I ran out of water. The Happy Hour deal is a sham. My wife couldn't get through half her giant (and not tasty) margarita. And the deal is for BOGO so you need to be drinking a lot of gross alcohol to actually save any money. read more

The portions are huge.. the happy hours is great. their margaritas are to live for.. I it's not like other places where it's a low quality syrup with a faint hint of alcohol .... I was a little nervous about this restaurant because it is a chain but man was I blown away!!! The atmosphere is festive and the booths are really cool. The service was outstanding. They were really great and always prompt with refills. The margaritas were delicious but the real show piece was the food. It was so flavorful! My friend got the Al Pastor tacos and I got the Pollo Relleno! I can't not recommend these dishes and this restaurant enough! I will definitely be back soon. read more

I first fell in love with Plaza Mexico about 10 years ago and about 5 years I met Juan the bartender at the location in Zephyrhills, and would request him every single time I went in. Juan, is not only a superb server, but his twist on their already amazing margaritas is to die for. Even though Juan moved to Lakeland a few years ago and I was still in Dade City, I would make the drive just to have him as my server/ bartender. This was our first time dining at Plaza Mexico, and overall, we had a great experience. We were seated quickly, and chips and salsa were served right away, which was a nice touch. Our server took a little while to come to our table, but she was friendly when she did. One thing we wish we had known ahead of time was how fast the food would arrive--our appetizer came out at the same time as our entrées, which made it feel unnecessary, especially at $15 when it was barely touched. That said, the food itself was delicious, and the margaritas were amazing! Despite the minor timing issue, we really enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back in the future. Upon entering plaza, Mexico restaurant, you notice the beautiful tower, decorations and lovely light fixtures. It smells amazing. When we were seated a basket of chips and fresh salsa was brought out quickly. The salsa was good, but the chips were flavorless. Our lunch dishes were brought out quickly and were very tasty. Always love going to Plaza Mexico. Has become a regular Wednesday night tradition. Usually sit at the bar. Miss Juan working the bar on Wednesday though. He got to know us. 1st time there. Food was very good & good quality. We sat at the bar which the bartenders are so busy making drinks they are not tending to the people at the bar. Great atmosphere. Problem is their liquor is either watered down or they are using cheap stuff. People who drink specific liquor can tell. If we go back I'll order water so they will be losing money. we come here a few times a year, but tonight turned us off. First, they tried to sit us at a table too small. Second, their margaritas taste very orangey- even at a bogo it's not worth it. Third, we were seated next to a TV with adult cartoons when with a 4 year old. Fourth, after paying our bill, we were told we had been given the wrong one, even though the itemized one looked correct, and had to repay. Served shots for birthday at our table for my "20" year old daughter in law! There was even a cake they served that said Happy 20th birthday! Without asking if she wanted one or how old she was. -- I have family members that struggle with recovering from Alcoholism and can't believe this is happening. ---Every few minutes there was another shot being brought out to a table for a birthday! My wife and I went to Plaza Mexico located at 3635 Florida Ave S, Lakeland. It was a Wednesday evening, around 6:30 and even though the restaurant was crowded we were seated immediately. First observation, the water. We typically have water with our dinner and the water here was very good. My wife said that it was obviously filtered, which we consider to be a good sign. I ordered the Pollo Relleno - A flattened and grilled chicken breast, wrapped around a mixture of mushrooms, spinach, and vegetables on a bed of black beans topped with cheese. The menu says that it's supposed to be drizzled with ranchero sauce, and the menu photo shows a red sauce, but that was missing from my meal. Instead, they added cheese. Nonetheless, it was very tasty, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I would order it again. My wife ordered the Mexico Salad - This consists of grilled shrimp, chicken with mushrooms and onions over shredded lettuce, avocado slices, tomatoes, orange slices, and cheese. My wife asked them to hold the cheese which they happily did. As you can see from my picture, there is quite a lot of food! My wife really liked the salad and said that she would defiantly order it again. Our server, Dane, was very attentive and checked up on us as we ate to see how we were doing, so we tipped her well. An observation about the check. The check comes with suggested tips of 20%, 23% and 25%. These suggested tips are computed on the final total INCLUDING TAX. Tipping is traditionally based on the pre-tax total. Finally, when we left at 7:30 there was a line of people waiting to be seated. read more

I will take my review back from 2 years ago. I will not take one foot into this place anymore. Horrible horrible what they did to dozens of people waiting. Their credit card machine was down so they claim to only take cash which everyone waiting said ok. After waiting 20-45 minutes the manager came over and told the host to not sit anyone anymore. When we asked why, the manager simply told the host he was busy to answer our questions. Everyone that was waiting had to leave and were also annoyed. This is the service you expect from this place? I just didn't understand the purpose of that if we are all paying cash. Sorry but you will never see my business or anyone I know that I will tell them about my experience. EXCELLENT EXCELLENT FOOD & SERVICE. Plaza Mexico, Lakeland is my FAVORITE. ALL the staff are fantastic, especially Javymar who waited on us. I particularly LOVE the Fajita Texana, but like it with the steak, shrimp, onions and mushrooms serving for 1. There are so many great choices on the menu, i intend on trying them all. Note to management, the bathrooms are gorgeous but ladies bathroom needs attention. soap dispensers falling off the wall. The baby diaper changing station will not close preventing access to handicap bathroom. The water faucets are gorgeous but very wasteful on water. read more
