This was not a…read morefuneral home I chose personally--it was simply the only business card the sheriff's department offered me the day my fiancé passed away suddenly at my home. I was in shock, devastated, and unable to think clearly, so I went with their suggestion. On Saturday, I was contacted by funeral director Amy Lee for next of kin information. By Monday, she called again, requesting more details and asking to meet with me as soon as possible. I assumed this was to discuss the death certificate or final arrangements. Instead, the meeting was cold and impersonal. There was no expression of sympathy or compassion--only a clear focus on who would be paying for the cremation. I was told the next of kin had informed her of a life insurance policy, and the only reason for the meeting was to have me sign the contract. After that, I was no longer contacted. All communication went through the next of kin--his daughter, who was out of state. I was left feeling unwelcome, unacknowledged, and deeply disappointed. For a business that has been around as long as Oxley-Heard, I expected a level of compassion and professionalism, especially from someone in such a sensitive role. Empathy should be at the heart of funeral services. Sadly, that was completely lacking in my experience. I hope this helps others who may find themselves in a similarly vulnerable position. If possible, take time to consider your options and have someone with you to help make decisions. No one should have to feel dismissed or disrespected while grieving.

Her passing came as a complete shock and surprise to the entire family. It's taken me a while to be able to write this review and it's still difficult to do, so I'm going to try to make it a short one. I gave 3 stars because it is just "ok." Nothing more, nothing less. The funeral directors were very helpful with my husband's parents in making the arrangements. You can imagine the deep loss they felt (and still feel) at losing a child; making arrangements was not an easy task. This was also on Christmas Eve which also happens to be their wedding anniversary. There is not a separate viewing area from the room where the service is held. I felt this made things a bit cramped and made it difficult for people to come up and give their condolences to the family both before and after the service. The funeral home looks large from the outside, but once inside, it is actually rather small and there's not very much room to move about. My sister-in-law's service was a small, intimate one and there was still standing room only. This is definitely not the place to hold a large funeral because there just isn't room for large capacity. I was imagining the funerals for both of my grandmothers which were 3-4 times the size and neither of them could have possibly happened here. Immediately after the service as friends and non-immediate family were giving their condolences to the immediate family members in the front row, there was a door to the outside which the funeral directors were leading them through. I thought this to be rather odd because some of them were not ready to leave. They had to go back around the building from the outside (it was raining) and enter again from the front. My husband's youngest sister and I arranged the music together on my MacBook and burned a CD in addition to loading a playlist on my iPod. We were very pleased to learn upon arriving that they had an up-to-date sound system with an iPod dock so the music played easily throughout the entire funeral home. However, I was not pleased when the director would not return my iPod to me because I was not an immediate family member; yet, I was the one who gave it to him when I entered on my husband's arm with the immediate family early that morning and was introduced as his wife. I had to go fetch my husband to collect the iPod. My husband was also not pleased because he had to leave his parents and sister to do this mundane task. He asked the director, "Why wouldn't you return this to my wife?" The director told him he had forgotten I was his wife. It's been my experience that funeral directors remember the immediate family members and their spouses. Granted, they may not remember all names, but they do remember faces. In this case, they only had five faces to remember: My father-in-law's, my mother-in-law's, my sister-in-law's, my husband's, and mine. In the future, if I have to arrange a funeral, I would not use Cedar Bay. It has zero to do with the iPod. I would not use this funeral home because it is small, cramped, and I didn't care for the way they "exited" the friends and non-immediate family members. I still give them 3 stars because, overall, things went well. My husband's parents were pleased and they were treated very well. In the end, that's all that really matters.

They didn't even pick up the phone . I tried coffee and tasks and she picked up the phone and met me right away. My letter was notarized after the industry standard business hours and saved me sooo much stress!! She was very friendly , knowledgeable and courteous. I will recommend her to everyone!

I was honored to do this for my late husband. I was able to get his wreath as well. Volunteering to place and pick up is an invaluable service to the ones who served and their families. I met a lot of great people today. You can never put a price on what they have done to keep us safe. I value all the people who came to help and who served.

We visited the Jacksonville National Cemetery to pay respect to our late uncle who is buried there…read more The cemetery itself looks very modern. We stopped by the administration building upon arrival to locate the grave. It was super easy and with a map in hand it took us only a few minutes to find the grave side. The cemetery is very well maintained and so very peaceful.
