There is a wallpaper border that has seen better days and the carpeting is due to be replaced. On the plus side the dance floor was large and the bar was centrally located. The bathrooms were clean and located in an easily accessible place. With just a small facelift, this basement space could be so much better. I went to the Elks Lodge in Washington last night for a girls night. I also was lucky enough to…read morewitness some of the rituals and traditions of the club to get an overall Elks experience. Sometimes I feel clubs and organizations like this perpetuate old-fashion views that are best kept in the past, but I don't get that feeling at all at the Elks. The Washington Elks represents the best in small town culture. A community of people who care about each other and come together for some AB products and a good time. Women and men are equal members, and even if you are not a member, you are welcomed into this club for a killer bar experience. Now that I am off my soap box...it's a great bar and a good venue for a wedding. The hall itself is a blank slate for fabulous decorations and big enough to fit a Washington wedding guest list. Their $1 Burger, $1 Fry nights are stuff of legend, and it has a fabulous new-ish patio. You must be with a member to get in, and they are serious about that policy. The no-smoking ban is amazing so you are covered in smoke when you leave. Overall, great place for a good time. If I ever move back to Washington, I would be privileged to be an Elk.

The inside was beautifully done. This is a great option for some slightly more upscale food in a semi-casual atmosphere. We sat at the bar for probably close to 10 minutes before receiving any service, we were dangerously close to leaving when the bartender "came back from break". He did apologize, and did a decent job waiting on us after that--albeit a little slow. There was another worker (Nicole?) clearly carrying the team, who was waiting on all of the bar area tables and perhaps others in the restaurant as well--she was delightful when she ran our food out for the bartender. I was excited to see their extensive beer selection. I opted for a boulevard wheat (one of my absolute favorites!). We ordered a couple of appetizers to hold us over until the wedding dinner we were about to attend. The flatbread of the week was a white sauce base with sausage, prosciutto, and bacon. When it first came out, it looked underwhelming, but it was amazing! The crust on the bottom was beautifully browned, and the combination of flavors was perfect. We also ordered the spinach artichoke dip, which was just average I'd say--very heavy on the cream cheese, not a ton of gooey cheese. All-in-all I would likely try it again.

The tasting room is open to the public on Fridays & Saturdays, with tours offered on Saturday. You must book a tour & tasting! We tried 5+ pours straight from the barrel. The barrels for tastings are going to be unique & one-of-a-kind - seriously, this will be the best whiskey tasting experience of your life. Head head distiller Demetris Cain shared stories about his family & their history of distilling. He shared stories of how each barrel is named. He really is the best storyteller and I hope you get to experience a tour with him personally. By the end of the tasting, we knew exactly which barrels we needed to bottle up and take home. Each bottle was filled directly from the barrel & hand-labeled. If you don't have time for a tour, enjoy a cocktail in the tasting room. If you aren't a whiskey person, they have other spirits available, including a very strong margarita.

The train arrived at the station, we gathered our luggage and walked out and the train took off. When we got to the platform we couldn't figure out why the train doors were closed and how to get on so we stood there waiting for a conductor. Then it rolled away all within 3 minutes of pulling up. Amtrak did reimburse our tickets, but it was a total disappointment not taking the train on my husband's birthday.
