I know the owner, we went to Uni together. So I let him take me there and I still thank him for that night. On Greek street, on the same side with the Barclays cash machines and across the street from Pillars of Hercules , you will see this tiny, blue door with the number 57 on it. You knock, a husky voiced bouncer opens the door and asks you if you have a membership- you say "No, I just want to have a drink. C'mon, let us in." He lets out a sigh, lets you in and tells you- "Right, go downstairs and pay £4 entry". You say "ok" but they never ask for your money- I think its their way of filtering their customers- see who's willing to pay and who says "I ain't got no £4 to pay". When you go down the stair you realise that you are actually in someones house...or on the set of one of Tarantinos movies. You open the door and you are instantly transported to the 50s-60s. I love it! Its kind of grotty looking but I think that what adds to the atmosphere. The tables have oilcloths and the chairs have little worn out cushions. The drinks are cheap, the people are friendly and talkative (I met and had drinks with the guy who invented the tile app http://www.thetileapp.com ). It has a small back garden where you can smoke -- but it kinda feels like you're in a tiny prison cell when you are outside. The bar staff is super friendly and all smiles. If you're lucky enough you might get to meet and talk to the lady of the house. Go and enjoy a night of wonders and wonderful people.

I initially came here for a "garden…read moreparty" hosted by a rather eccentric artist woman, so I was expecting to be in the backyard of some random venue among flowers and greenery... only to discover that this is a members club and that the "garden party" was being held in a brick-walled basement. This was all pretty strange at first... but the more I got to know about Adam street, the more I liked the concept. First of all, there were lots of interesting people there... photographers, sculptors, fashion designers who were just starting out... perhaps a bit odd in one way or another, but nonetheless intriguing, which is infinitely better than normal and boring... As I recall, the downstairs bar for the "garden party" shut down pretty early, so my group and I wandered up to a lounge a floor or two up that was absolutely hopping. It wasn't a huge space, but it was well-designed, and the entire periphery was lined with sleek comfortable sofas - so there was plenty of space for people to sit. A live piano was going and like I said, the place was packed... yet the set-up is all very close and reassuring in a way that really seems to encourage mingling; we ended up socializing and drinking with people till the place shut down at 3am! After doing a bit more research about Adam Street following that night, I learned that it's a club for entrepreneurs and self-employed artists who are in need of occasional work and meeting spaces... it's what's commonly referred to as "hot seating" - which is really helpful for businesses that are just starting out and need addresses and conference rooms that come across as professional to their clients. They also have a restaurant and host monthly professional events. Between the entrepreneurial aspect and the approachable crowd that the club attracts, it's certainly a members club worth investigating.

I found the staff to be a little snooty though. I guess that they feel they have to give people a hard time if they do not recognise them... Once seated, the staff were superb. So attentive and focused on service. We were only there for drinkies and the bottle of white was of decent quality. I liked atmosphere in there - not too loud and brash, despite the arched concrete ceilings. A good place to discuss business - I guess that really is the whole point!
