The result was a fairytale setting. Seriously. It was amazing. The rooms were spacious, clean and well appointed. The included breakfast was delicious and included everything one might expect of a European-style feast. The food, the entire time, was stunning. We had two dinners. . . one was a "welcome" dinner and the other was the wedding reception. At the welcome dinner numerous "salads" were served as well as pizza. I think it was one of my most favorite meals ever. Everything was fresh and simply prepared, letting the flavors of the food shine. Which brings me too. . . The wedding. . . everything was perfect. The setting, the drinks, the food, the service. . . it was like something out of a movie! I still get teary thinking about it! La Badia was amazing - I am so glad that they delivered such a spectacular wedding weekend! On a side note, La Badia is situated just below the city of Orvieto. Orvieto is just as magical. It's a small, quaint town with a gorgeous dumo and warm people! Stroll the streets, see the sights and eat in the sidewalk cafes - and experience a true Italy.

These rooms are full of open-air windows, strategically facing viewing points that are remarkable within the Orvieto region. Giovanni and his staff provide impeccable service. Their friendliness, stewardship of the profession, and class could only be rivaled by the most highly regarded establishments. The main halls/shared living room/dining room dates back to the periods when the Popes staff was stationed in Orvieto. The amount of work that went into this, required 4 years of attention but was completely worth the effort. This area created an incredible fine dining experience that is unparalleled in the area. We were fortunate to have our dining experience to ourselves, a party of 4. Special treatment cannot accurately describe this experience. We chose the 4 courses and 4 wine pairing menu, which is accurately priced. Simply put each course was a trip into the culinary culture. Asparagus frittata, risotto with freshly grated truffle, Vitello (veal) belly, and ricotta and pureed​ fig for dolce, barely describes the intricacy of this meal. The views are spectacular, the pool is the most peaceful and soothing spot one can dream of for an Italian trip. In season the evening dinner is served at sunset only for guests of the hotel , on the terrace with view onto Orvieto. The talented house chef cooks in an inventive fusion style with local organic products , a fixe menu different every day. The delicious wines are literally km zero, being produced by the Palazzone winery just behind the inn.

It is on the second-floor, so we only had to walk up one stairway. The room had air-conditioning, which we only used when in the room during the day. At night we opened the window partially, enough to let air in. (The window is screened.) It was nice to awake to the pleasant sounds of the surrounding Orvieto families as they prepared for their day. Very clean room. Espresso maker and coffee provided, along with some snacks and juice. Valentina provides her guests with a "tourist card", which provided us discounts at the sights around town. It also provides discounts at some restaurants and services. A great benefit. Valentina also kindly made us reservations at the two restaurants we had selected.

It would have been challenging to find if Valentina's staff had not kindly taken our bags and led us to the apartment. Our apartment had a kitchen, dining table and rustic wooden ceiling beams. I'm guessing the wooden beams are centuries older than the US. The bed was one of the most comfortable we experienced during our trip. Food markets and restaurants were within easy walking distance. I highly recommend selecting one of Valentina's apartments that meets your desires! Each apartment is different and in a separate Orvieto location.

The finicular is in the same parking lot as the train station. When you do get a car, if staying in Orvieto, Sabrina offers free parking. Wish we stayed during the Umbria Jazz fest but all in all Orvieto was a terrific, laid back, safe town to be immersed in excellent food, awesome views and an easy visit. Ripa Medici is a great Bed and breakfast to stay at. One note about the beds...my husband is 6 feet and he was a bit tall for the bed. As for me, I wished I brought my own pillow. We shall return one day for sure I hope.

Breakfast was simple and traditional -- fresh baked goods each morning, eggs made to order, hot coffee, and fruit. A perfect start to the day. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. Opening the windows at night kept the room cool while letting in the peaceful sounds of nature. It's about a 10-minute drive to the center of Orvieto. Taxis were around €25 each way, so something to plan for depending on how you're getting around. I highly recommend staying here if you're visiting the area.
