Granted, this is not the most blessed area in the city, but at least it's only a short drive from the centre and there's quite a lot of shops and outlets nearby giving the place a bit of life. East Belfast Enterprise offers advice and assistance to the businesses set up here of which there is quite an interesting variety including an antique restorer, computer services, catering and a fireplace suppliers to name just a few. Were I in that position, I wouldn't mind having a premises in here, it's accessible and judging from a very positive experience of East Belfast Enterprise Centre having taken a course there it's a pleasant enough environment in which to get down to the hard graft of working for yourself.

Well let me explain, it will all make sense in a few short paragraphs time; City Business Hub is a free business support centre operated by the Business Development Agency and Belfast City Council. Its purpose is to provide business support to start ups and local companies. They offer free networking events, Wifi services, office options and advice writing business plans and corporate documents. When you enter the office make sure you ring the doorbell first and don't start pushing and pulling the door like I did. There's two advice desks set up inside the office and when I went in the staff couldn't have been more accommodating even though one of them was rushing out the door to a meeting. Don't be shy these guys are here to help and they've encountered most business problems in their time. This is an excellent addition to Belfast and it's great to see the City Council investing in our brightest brains. If you're a budding entrepreneur put that Apprentice application form down and head here for some business advice -Lord Sugar will be working for you in no time.

They were SO helpful, they allowed my other half to pay his bill off in stages, so that he didn't have to pay it all at once, which was great - and they took the graphics from our original design and had them made up and ready to go on the car even before the car arrived! They did the work in one morning and the car was kitted up and ready to be taken away by lunchtime. They kept up contact with us to give us updates on progress and didn't do anything major regarding the graphics without consulting us first, which showed real professionalism.

It's great to see these beautiful old charming buildings being re-used and appreciated and conserved rather than tossed to make way for ugly industrial estates. If you need anything made for an exhibition, show, performance or event - RMC Design can do it. When I called in for my meeting, I saw someone carving and painting artificial trees (full size!), I saw a life size Oscar trophy being created, among many other projects and products. Richard, the owner is great at taking your ideas and making them into reality - and that's what he did for our scenery. I gave him our details and measurements and voila - a few weeks later they appeared - delivered by the company. Now, you should expect to pay a high-end price for their service, because they have an excellent team of carpenters, designers and painters working there, and it is high quality items they are creating - I know our scenery will be a great investment to last for some time.

There are three annual events in Belfast which are the absolute highlight of my calendar. One is…read moreCulture Night (September), another the Ulster University Art College Degree Show (June) and last but not least the Royal Ulster Academy of Arts (RUA) exhibition (October through to December). According to their website the RUA, which was "founded in 1879...is the largest and longest established body of practicing visual artists in Northern Ireland. Through a series of education and exhibition events throughout the year the organisation aims to celebrate, enrich and expand contemporary approaches to the visual arts." It certainly achieves these aims with the Annual Exhibition normally held within Ulster Museum being the pinnacle. The RUA Annual Exhibition displays artwork by RUA Members, invited Artists and Artists selected through open submission. Via open submission anyone can apply to have their work included in the Exhibition, amateurs and students included. This is what makes for such an exciting show each year - there's a huge diversity of Artists and visual art on display. Each year I literally visit the RUA Exhibition around ten times. Paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics and installations are crammed into the gallery space on the top floors of Ulster Museum. Artwork covers the walls from ceiling to floor in a jig-saw, mish-mash of a display. This is fabulous, because the amateur Artist's work hangs right beside or above the Professional Artist's. It's a truly egalitarian exhibit. If you visit yourself you'll understand why I return numerous times. There's no way you can notice and fully appreciate all the art with a single visit. Each time I return I spot new art I hadn't noticed before, which is an absolute delight. If you're in a purchasing mood you can buy any item on display (though be warned some pieces can be expensive). Alternatively you can have a cheap day out at the RUA Annual Exhibition as entrance is free and the brochure is normally around £5 if you fancy buying it. Either way, I can't recommend this Exhibition enough as without fail it's amazing each year.

The Royal Ulster Academy is a charity organisation run by artists in the hope of encouraging and…read moreeducating the public about visual art. It holds an annual exhibition, this year which will be taking place at the newly renovated Ulster Museum for their 129th Annual Exhibition which will take place from 15 October - 14 November. It is being held at this location for the first time in 80 years after their first exhibition at the Museum in 1930. The exhibition shows work by RUA members, invited artists and work submitted by local artists hoping to be selected by the judges. The Academy strives to publicise and promote local artists both established and emerging. Visitors to the exhibition can purchase any of the works on sale which will be accompanied by a full colour catalogue. The academy will also hold a number of school tours, artist's talks, public tours and workshops.
