The whole process was really simple, walked in, told the lady behind the counter that I needed them clean and then paid. Bish, bash, bosh - job done! Apart from dry cleaning, they also have a clothes ironing service, and they do bags of ordinary washing as well. So, if you're a bit useless at those sorts of things, especially the ironing, and have a job interview coming up, get your suit and shirt in here - hanging a washed shirt up until the wrinkles fall out of it doesn't have quite the same effect as it being properly ironed. The only thing I would say is that they could do with being open late one night during the week. The place is called careers and cleaning, but anyone who has a career would be hard pushed to find the time to drop stuff in here and pick it up. It never opens before 9a.m. and is never open past 6p.m., and even that's only two days per week.

Being baffled with jargon seemed to be the sales technique so it was with some trepidation I lugged my fried desktop down to them. The shop itself is quite big with a small 'internet area' for browsing etc and there was a fair selection of computers and accessories for sale. I basically wanted to see what could be salvaged off my hard drive and the guy said it would be a simple (woohoo) operation with no definite guaranteed outcome. A week later he rang me to say he'd got the hard drive out intact and I could simply pop it into my new desktop whenever I got one and the data should be there. Result especially as I thought I wouldn't be able to get the data off or would have to pay big money for an expensive salvage operation. Great service and very helpful, definitely worth the trip downtown. Pros: Clear talking jargon free staff. Cons: Not the easiest to find.

It really is surprising how much longer you can make a decent pair of leather shoes last if you re-heel them often enough. The city heel bar is fast and convenient if you work in town and need some shoe repair done as soon as possible. They can, if you ask politely enough, fix or re-heel your shoes while you wait. As well as this they are cheap, and compared to buying a new pair of shoes, it is a steal. They have a key cutting service too.

One of the coolest things I noticed about is that they do a photo restoration service. When I visited, right on the front door they had a huge restored image from the Harland & Wolff shipyard in the 1930s. It was a snap shot of the riveting crew from 1930 and looked like a recent photo. Except that it was in black and white. And everyone was wearing a cap in the picture (I mean, everyone. It must have been part of the uniform)..

So after some online research and an email conversation with a really helpful member of staff I decided I would get myself a little storage unit. I took their smallest unit at just over £10 per month (with a free pad lock thrown in). These units are super secure so whether you're storing your family heirlooms or you're cleaning out your old football sticker collection they will meet your needs. You get an access control fob meaning only people who are storing items can get in! The really helpful owner showed me the unit and took me through the rules. He was excellent and he also informed me that they store vintage cars also. So maybe one day I'll put my Ferrari in here when I'm bored driving it! Anyway I can't fault the service or the offering at all! Just off the M1, the location couldn't get any handier either.
