I usually would go to my friend which is a mechanic, but I was crunched on time and had to get it done at the nearest location I could find at the time, which happened to be Midas. Up until yesterday before bringing my car into Midas ONLY for the safety test it was running smooth and I was aware of a weak battery which I planned to have it replaced with my buddy the mechanic. As I was waiting Midas for my car they told me that I had to change the battery and go on about the alternator. I told I'm here for a safety test and was not looking to do anything else. They keep pushing a sales on me and I kept telling them no. There was a lady that came in before me looking to get an oil change and they kept pushing her to get synthetic oil, which cost twice as much and unnecessary. She just wanted to get the regular oil change. I felt bad and kind of wanted to say something, but didn't want to make a scene. So I get my car back after refusing on several occasions to their displeasure. The moment I drove out on the way to my buddy the mechanics shop, about 10-15 mins my car starts acting erratic. All the warning lights comes on at once. My car starts shaking while it's going into gear. Eventually I would not even go pass 10km/h, this was all happening during rush hour on a busy street, it was pretty scary. I had pull my car into a parking lot and then it just completely died. I can't start it. I called Midas back and they pretty much were like " well I told you so and don't blame it on us" kind of attitude. I told them that I've been driving this car for some time and the moment I bring it to your location my car died. It just seem very suspicious since they were so aggressive about me fixing things with them. My car is currently at my friends shop and I'm not sure exactly how much it's going to cost me to fix it now. I had to pay to get it tolled. My car is a 2012 mdx, with only 113000km on it. Relative low km. Been driving smooth and no issue other then regular wear and tear, minor things. I'm just sharing my honest experiences about these guys. I basically do not trust them and I'd never go to another Midas again! It seems like they have this very aggressive, untrustworthy sales approach there, beware if you choose to go to this location, it becomes very costly! Ps I'd give them zero stars, but that's not an option so I have to bite my tongue and give them one fake star.

Dealing with Modern Automotive Technology on Confederation Pkwy in Concord, Ontario (owned by Maxim "Max" Voloshin) has been one of my worst experiences. When I went there I told them that the problem was probably the radar unit because another mechanic had told me that. The initial problem was that multiple warnings were constantly being displayed on my dash. They tried to repair the problem without replacing the radar unit and charged me hundreds of dollars. It worked for two days. I brought it back a second time and at that point they said I needed a new radar unit. I decided to go ahead with that. After spending another few hundred dollars the problem was still not fixed. At that point they told me the windshield had to be replaced because there is a camera in the windshield. I did not trust them to continue working on my car so I had the windshield changed with another company. The problem still was not solved, so they were wrong about changing the windshield. I finally brought it to Markham Honda and they said the radar unit was not installed properly, was damaged and would have to be replaced again a second time. They also said the harness was damaged by the previous shop (Modern Automotive). It is working now but they said the damage to the harness might need to be repaired in the future which would cost $5800.

The auto shop does not take appointment for tire change and is on a first come first serve basis, so I walked in like all other people. When I said I was there for winter tire change, the person (I later found out his name was Joe) at the front desk said "So does the rest of Richmond Hill". He later said the wait would be 2 hrs and I said I would wait. When it was time to pay, I asked if there was a discount if I paid cash. His snarky response: "I should be charging you more for fitting you in". You did not have to fit me in. I could go elsewhere, on a different day. Both comments were uncalled for and very rude. I noticed that his attitude towards others (men) in the shop was different.

Maybe it was a mistake, but the response was to refund my credit card for the service?? It's not a refund if there was no service performed. I called the last shop to verify the make an model of the filter that they had installed and it's the one still installed (ACDelco). I called Midas and asked what filter they had installed and their records showed Purolator. I wanted more than a refund this is ridiculous, and possibly fraudulent. If it was a mistake then the fact that they overbook so much that this can happen is ridiculous. I have and sent them the pictures clearly showing this is not a new filter, but I got a refund on services not provided.

They've recently changed hands, and the new management is unorganized and terrible. I made an appointment online and no one confirmed. I went in and confirmed in person and mentioned I had selected the "inspection" option on my appointment, and that I wanted to "wait for my vehicle". When I dropped it off they told me they couldn't do it while I waited (so it took ALL DAY). I had my tires swapped and they didn't do the inspection. When I asked about it they said to bring it back in a few weeks when it was less busy. When I called back to arrange, the lady on the phone was only interested in telling me they don't do inspections, even though it had been acknowledged by management already. She finally conceded and I was given a time to come. When I arrived I couldn't even get on the lot it was so packed, even though they told me to come at that time. While I was parked on the side of Danforth with my hazards on, waiting, the same lady came out to talk to me, so I said "I'd rather not argue with you" as I had no interest in going over it again. She then walked back to the lot and audibly called me an asshole to the manager, who was moving cars. When I confronted him about it he said he'd "talk to her". I asked for an apology and was told "I can't make another adult apologize". That goes for employees too I guess. He said he would call me back about the inspection and didn't. Wow is all I can say. Zero stars.
