Beautifully maintained and thoughtfully created studio in Wellesley. Just started going to this studio a few weeks ago and I am in LOVE. Two entrances with ample parking on street and a lot to the rear of the facility. You're welcomed by their friendly staff and upon check in they remind you the spot you've reserved. Generously sized free lockers ( USB charger available in cubbie and you can change the locking code) available to hold your gear in class. I have a large backpack and that plus my winter gear fits snug! Free shoe rentals available for no additional charge as well. Check for different locations schedules as not all classes are offered in each location; BOS has hot ride. They have an app that functions well, allows you to reserve a class and assign a spot. So far I've taken the following classes: -R/DE -Hip hop R/DE -Train So for the ride and train you head into separate rooms but the theme is the same... dark room dimly lit with led light mirrors that change their hue and glow with the intensity and songs throughout class. Expect a high intensity, upbeat dance work out party that provides a full body challenging workout for all levels. They newly added the Train X class which has been described as using a strength and conditioning class / half "on-beat" , half "off-beat" aka half HIIT, slower movements but heavier weights. So far I'm finished on my first time specials but ask about deals if you're a fitness instructor, student, or veteran as well as first timer. Credits work for all studios so you can swap locations if needed. Beautiful facilities, upbeat and intense instructors who weave intention and mindfulness throughout the practice. Have genuinely enjoyed my few classes and look forward to trying more !

You get a quick overview then are set free to do whatever. The kids had a good time. They very much liked the curved walls you run up and try to grab the top of. They kept practicing and eventually could do the 3rd tallest one. It was pretty cool. - What I didn't like was the smart-ass other kids who go there often and were vocal in showing what they could do. If one of my kids couldn't quite get something, some other random kid would jump on it and show how easy it was. Here's why that bothered me; as a kid I tried out for track. It wasn't easy. I tried out a lot. Finally made it to varsity. Ran the 1/2 mile. First time I got to do this, this other superstar brat kid who normally never runs the 1/2 mile decided to run it too. He beat me, I came in second, meaning I would have been first had he not butted in for no good reason. You can see this doesn't bother me at all still to this day... - SO - aside from the other know-it-all kids here, my niece and nephew had fun.

First, my 9 year old daughter did the Ninja Warrior summer camp this week at the Wellesley gym. My…read moredaughter actually liked it a lot and wants to continue with classes during the year. That's the good news. The reason for the 2 star review was that when she was on the Salmon ladder with an instructor present, she was hit in the head by the bar. No one at the gym said anything to me about this. I'm sorry, but when my child gets hit in the head by something I want to know, even if it is not serious. I might not have bothered to write a review and say anything about this if we hadn't gone back later that day for an open gym event they had (with a band playing). Again, my daughter did enjoy the experience (and she didn't tell me about hitting her head until late in the day). What I saw at the open gym gave me pause about the commitment to safety of Action Athletics. The gym was packed, kids were running everywhere. There were far to few instructors, and they were not controlling access to the obstacles very well at all. One woman was letting her 8 month old crawl around on the floor in front of the warped walls, kids were darting back and forth in front of other kids running up the warped walls. Kids were not being spotted on obstacles. It is not enough to have mats on the floor. If someone falls off an obstacle and lands wrong, they can be severely injured, even if the floor is padded. I believe they need to get their act together as regards safety before I can recommend them more highly, regardless of the "fun factor".

I've been to both the Boston and Wellesley locations (depending on if I want to take the T, or if it's not rush hour it's easy to get to Wellesley), and I have to say that the Wellesley location is esthetically much nicer than the Boston location, which isn't surprising since it's bound to be more spacious and open. This is a beautiful studio with a separate sitting area, mirrors, large windows, and hard wood floors. I've had a number of instructors and they have all been great. It's nice that they can add their own spin on the workout, and while they work your whole body, some definitely have an emphasis on legs or abs. The 45 minutes go by FAST since you're constantly switching up the movement. It's hard and you're pretty much destined to be sore the next day, but definitely not in a bad way. The workouts are all able to be modified so these classes are good for just about anyone. If you have never been on a megareformer I definitely recommend checking it out! They look daunting at first but the instructors talk you through each position and whatnot, so it's not like you're looking around wondering what's going on.

I asked very nicely if they could take it in the hall or common area, it's posted as a rule not to talk on the floor. He looked at me like he wanted to kill me and kept talking. Spencer, a trainer, was about 10 feet away. I asked him if he could please tell him to not take a call here. He said he couldn't. He could do it later. I said I don't understand, it would take 3 seconds to ask, you just talked to me longer than that, just ask him please. He said he couldn't, in a way that seemed like teasing, like he was tying to make me feel petty for asking. I went downstairs and complained to the person at the desk. When I went back upstairs Spencer came right up to me and said he asked him and he hung up the phone. It was obvious now he had been teasing me, because he came right up to me to try to patch it over. No one likes to be ridiculed. This is the first time something like this happened. There is a man there who stares at people. A few weeks ago he walked up to me and yelled in my face when I asked him not to stare at me. I told him to please move away from me, he didn't. I mentioned it to the spikey haired guy at the desk who said "Oh ya, he's does that a lot, I know exactly who you're talking about." Nothing has been done, and this guy continues to roam around there looking to pick a fight. They need to take care of members. Something is wrong here. I'm leaving. A couple of the negative reviewers also seem to fall into the "anything less than five stars is one star" approach to Yelp reviewing, but the negative ones don't begin to describe the studio where I've been going for the past year. (And if you're going to attack an employee about their hairstyle, maybe you should grow up a bit before you write another review.) In my experience, the staff has been universally friendly, helpful, and attentive. The coaches have different styles ranging from fairly laid-back to hyperkinetic, so if you have a strong preference for an approach in how you're coached you'll have to find your favorites. All the coaches I've worked with, however, are clearly trying to become better at their jobs and frequently ask for feedback on how they're doing. (If I have an overall suggestion, it would be that all the coaches offer more frequent advice on proper form for the weight exercises. Some do this regularly; others almost not at all.) I enjoy the variety in the classes--every day is something a little different--plus they always provide exercise alternatives for anyone dealing with injuries. My goal is overall fitness--not bulking up or massive cardio gains--and OT definitely delivers. The studio is clean if small (the changing area can get crowded between classes). The equipment always seems to be well-maintained, especially when you consider how much it gets used on a daily basis. I'd probably give OT four stars overall because of some issues in variability in how the franchises get run. (Checking the Reddit forums, it's pretty clear that the franchisees have a fair amount of leeway in day-to-day operations.) It's not a problem overall for me--and certainly not the fault of the staff--but it may explain why some people give Wellesley lower ratings since how things are run here may differ from other studios.
