This is a great studio but one thing that keeps me from coming more often is that it is only hot yoga. I wish there was at least some normal or lower temperature classes offered here. I don't always do well with a 90+ degree heat combined with the strenuous flow. I love the teachers and the challenging flows though - the best studio in the surrounding area! Another yoga studio hops on the Prana Power bandwagon. Welcome to HYP's Needham outpost, where I ventured for a 75 minute "warm" power class last Monday. As I entered the waiting area, the "hot" flow class was leaving, super sweaty and sticky. The girl checking me in was friendly enough, and the paperwork to get my Passport to Prana card swiped was quick. I can't believe they only have one changing room and a bathroom for each sex! Classes easily hold 40 people, many of whom who need to change into their Lulumon gear beforehand, and who want to get out of those sticky sports bras immediately after. So, it was packed getting in. I found a spot to lay my mat; they've got tape on the floor showing you where to line your mats for optimal sardine squeezing. Why these power studios don't have you stagger your mat to allow for a fuller range of motion, I'll never get. My instructor was Jordan, who was nice enough and didn't say too much touchy feely bullshit. I did laugh a bit when he referred to wimping out on the yoga pushup as "cheaturanga." He had an assistant adjusting, which was cool, but she was a little forceful and pushed me a bit too deep into the asanas. She also didn't adjust the same student's pose on both sides of the body. We went through the typical Sun A, Sun B, triangle, side angle, tree pose, bow, pigeon, and some back bends. I sweated so much I turned part of my white Yogitoes towel the black from my mat underneath. Gross. It was a decent practice, and just enough heat to really make me work. I usually don't practice hot yoga. I was feeling all zen and shit until I was heading over to my mat with the mat wash spray and a grabby student tried to take it right out of my hand. I didn't like the vibe from the students practicing there. But, if you're close to Needham and want to hop on that hot power yoga train, here's another crowded spot for you to try. read more

You might have thought, from my reviews, that the answer'd be coffee, but it's not! Turns out, the absolute best way to stave off the freezing winter winds in Boston is to take a hot power yoga class at H.Y.P. I appreciate the cohesiveness of H.Y.P. -- all their design, from the studio furnishings to the website, is consist, matches well, and makes for a nice experience. Given that the classes are much larger than I prefer, they pull them off quite well -- though there are many students in each class, the instructors still manage to come around to give individual attention to those who need it, and I never had any trouble hearing instructions. Check it out one day when you just can't shake the cold! read more

I've only been here a few times . . . and there's a lot to like about this tucked-away studio on the Newton/Needham line, just a minute off Rte. 128. The studio is a cheery shade of yellow and sunlight filled; the heating system is impressive but not oppressive; and there is plenty of elbow room, waiting room, and changing room. Front desk help is friendly and there's plenty of easy and free parking on site. The styles of the yoga classes offered here seem to be all over the board. Hooray for variety, but it also seems as if they haven't quite found their niche yet. They offer the style of yoga that is whatever their current teachers specialize in. My friend Erin taught prana vinyasa-inspired (Shiva Rea's style of yoga) classes here a year or so ago--and they were fabulous! But then she went on a teaching sabattical, and there was nobody who quite filled the shoes that Erin left behind. There are so many places in the greater Boston area where I can get my power yoga groove on, that it's nice to find something that's a little bit different--kind of like Exhale. H.Y.P. has that potential . . . I've never tried any of the Pilates classes here. Kind of curious! If H.Y.P. was in a more convenient location for me, I'd probably come more often. Yoga is becoming quite the popular commodity in the area, and I'm happy to see that this place is still in business :-) read more

Everything about this studio is... Fine. And that's about it. The space itself is adequate, but not particularly clean. The studio for barre and yoga is spacious but also kind if dingy, in my opinion. I bought a giltcity voucher and mostly used it for barre classes. The classes were good, but not particularly challenging and I definitely prefer to go to purebarre for a similar price point. The instructors are fine - they know their stuff and get to know your name, but they aren't particularly motivating. The woman that's always at the front desk comes across as very rude and on multiple occasions I remember thanking her on my way out and her just looking at me and mumbling "uh bye." Okay.. Parking is easy and location is easy to find, right off 95. One of my biggest peeves about this place is that the online booking requires 24 hours or else you lose the case. I find this absolutely ridiculous and have been to numerous studios in the area, and normally 2-4 hours is standard. There's literally no point in booking classes online since they don't really fill up and you're at risk to lose it if something comes up last minute. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this studio to anyone but it's also not a place to avoid. You'll definitely get a good workout here! read more

Absolutely stunning studio for yoga. The floor is pristine, the windows allow lots of sunlight, and the place is very clean. This is a very professional yoga studio- no nonsense. I signed up for the warm yoga, and there was an actual built in heating system, unlike other yoga studios that use space heaters. I sweat so much that my towel and mat were drenched by the end of class. I really felt like I was getting my money's worth of a yoga workout. Masaki was professional and a great instructor. I fell in love with hot yoga after this class. It is a little too pricey for me though, but if I had another deal I would 100% return. read more

If you love HOT yoga, you will LOVE this studio. There's nothing like the rinse of a sweaty class. Showers give you the opportunity to wash off afterwards. Tara and Braxton's classes are amazing. They encourage you to find your own journey. And be the best that you can be! read more

4 stars. Namely because it's hotter than Satan's armpit in here and it makes me feel pretty ill. I can't get to many (read: close to any) of their "warm"** classes because of my schedule so it's hard for me to be a regular at this studio. **I'd rather not pay $20 to lay facedown on a mat and try not to throw up so I only go to the classes that are labeled as Warm on their schedule. Broke my heart when I discovered that Gregor was no longer at HYP according to their faculty website. I was a regular of his Tuesday class for months on end - super nice, super soothing, super...Scottish. Yep. His accent and flow in class made it so dulcet that I almost fell asleep in several savasanas. I've been to Jenna, Pilar, Jordan, Masaaki, and Braxton's classes as well. All really great, too. Recommend if you're in the area, particularly if you're a student. I went to Babson, so their student deal ($12/class) is well worth it. Note to students: you can reserve a spot online and get your $8 difference refunded at the studio. Just a tip! read more

Their website is so fancy and awesome and the Yelp reviews all so positive that I was really expecting a lot from this studio. I thought it was going to be some sort of suburban yoga paradise. Decent enough yoga studio, yes. Suburban yoga paradise, not really. Allow me to break it down: Highlights: They are not kidding when they call this place Hot Yoga and Pilates. It is hot. Hotter than any other yoga studio I have experienced. If you like hot yoga, you will love the temperature here. You can generally arrive very early and chill in the hot yoga room for a while before your class starts. Great if you want to do some restorative stuff before vinyasa. Gregor on Tuesday nights. Scottish dude teaching yoga. Awesome. My favorite teacher here by far. Other instructors are decent Friendly staff Nice bathroom Free plastic bags to bring your dirty clothes home in Convenient location, easy access to 95, right off Highland Ave past Muzi dealership Lowlights: The worst thing about this place for me is that you have to stand in a stairwell and take off your shoes before you enter. There is no place to sit down to remove your shoes and no cubbies in which to store your shoes. You basically have to balance on the wall (good thing you've been practicing yoga, right?), or worse, the stairs, remove your shoes, arrange them so they are somewhat in order on the floor so that other people won't trip on them, then subject yourself to the super cold and sometimes dirty floor before entering the studio per se. This area also has a very harsh, 1960s industrial quality to it with intense overhead fluorescent lighting that is just not very welcoming. They could really improve on the experience here if they'd just put a chair or two here, change out the light bulbs to something more zen and put up some décor. Tiny changing rooms painted an awful 1970s color combo of avocado and yellow. Random gaggles of high school girls occasionally descend into a class. I've been here a few times for both classes and an event. I had heard that HYP was THE place to go in MetroWest, but was underwhelmed. First, the good: Jacqui Bonwell teaches here and she is so amazing! They have a great range of classes, and cool events. The owner was in one of the events I attended and she seemed sincere and nice. I've also taken Pilar's class (she's very good), Jennifer (good), and Masaaki (meh). But opinions on instructors are a very personal thing, so don't take my word for it. Now, the bad: NAG CHAMPA! If you have any smell sensitivity, or just don't like breathing in smoking incense, avoid this place. Every class I've attended has had the Nag Champa pumping. I get it that yoga makes people stinky, but I'd rather smell sweat than breathe in that stuff when my lungs are working hard and my breathing is essential to stay centered. I also have found the front desk people to be indifferent and unhelpful. The first time I came to the studio, no one bothered to give me a 30-second run-down about the layout. And when I did ask questions, I felt like I was interrupting a *very important conversation.* And finally, the facilities are an issue. The common areas are cramped, and there's only one bathroom for each sex. Since I don't live close to the studio, I don't plan on returning unless it's for an event. There are better studios that are worth the drive-- like South Boston Yoga, Back Bay Yoga, and Down Under Yoga. But if you live nearby, definitely check out Jacqui. She's not to be missed. read more

I like this studio for its instructors. Masaki is an amazing guy, and I truly enjoy his tone during class. I have had a few other instructors at this location and the Wellesley studio, and have always been impressed with how they carry themselves. I have been around the block and tried many yoga studios in the boston area. However, I started my practice at HYP and it holds a special place in my heart. The studio is clean, the people are friendly, the heating system is effective, there is ample free parking. What really defines this studio and brings it up to 5 stars are the teachers. They are experienced and take the time to work on your alignment. I find many studios are afraid to do adjustments to individual students during class, but the teachers at HYP make a point of improving your practice. The vinyasa flow classes can be intense but there is the perfect balance of intensity and relaxation. Variety is the spice of life and the teachers use many different poses and like to change things up. There always a variety of classes and frequently guest instructors. If you are new to yoga or experienced, I highly recommend HYP as a place where you can truly expand your practice. read more

This is a beautiful studio with some of the most amazing teachers I've ever had. The studio is a nice big space with lots of light and a great heating system. Often there are assistants in classes which I absolutely love having. The owners are top notch and really give back to the community constantly. I can't say enough good things about them! There are different kinds of classes that they offer in addition to yoga and pilates and have offered free classes in the past to try them out which I think is such a great idea. There is some very cool jewelry and great yoga clothing for sale there and always help at the desk (and very friendly too.) Instead of throwing your shoes in a big pile like lots of studios, they have nice racks and also lockers to put your personal things into. If I had to name my favorite classes there the list would go on and on, but to start...Jacqui, Jordan, Sheryl, Tom, Masaaki... One more reason why I love HYP-it is always very clean which you want when your walking around in bare feet. Try HYP, you won't be disappointed! read more

As a beginner I went with an ounce of hesitation. Jenna, who leads the introductory class, is perfect for beginners. Her relaxed style and natural sense of what each person needs made me feel comfortable right away. The studio is clean and well appointed. I highly recommend trying yoga here. read more

I LOVE this studio. I moved to Needham last Spring and I needed a new HOT studio . I find the 1215 power hot yoga classes have the best instructors . I just tried a Hot Power Yoga Class at H.Y.P. Studio about 3 weeks ago for the first time and they had a special for new students. At first the heat bothered me because I was not use to it and boy did I sweat so much!! But when I left the class I felt so unbelievable. It was very Professional, clean and the room was wonderful. The teachers are experienced and take the extra time to make sure you are ok and that your alignment is correct. I then bought a bunch of class packages. This studio is great if you like hot yoga and like a really clean place to practice. I've done Bikram for three years and was looking for a change. Each class was slightly different and all the instructors offered corrections, and also more meditation than the Bikram classes do. From the reviews of Baptiste, who also offers hot yoga I am glad I stayed away from his crowded classes. This studio has about 15 people per class. It also has showers and free lockers. There is no pressure to buy multiple classes like at some other studios. Definitely should visit at least once to check it out and treat your body and soul! read more

New to the area I was on the hunt for a yoga studio. Immediately drawn to HYP's large assortment of classes I bought the 10 for 25 deal. Over 10 days I tried the Low Heat Class, Hot class, Barsculpt class and the Fundamentals class. The hot was HOT I don't believe what they post that it's only in the low 90s - some of them were way too hot for me and some were just right (it seemed completely different based on the teacher). Barsculpt was unheated and having taken a Barre Booty class at my college before I knew what to expect there and I have to say it seemed a little easy but maybe that was just because the class at my college is super intense. Anyway - back to the yoga. I LOVE the warm classes. Fundamentals wasn't really enough for me and the Hot class was too much. Classes are CROWDED - for the price of a monthly pass I was expecting the studio to be a little bigger but regardless I will be back (probably just with a punch card not a monthly pass though). As for teachers ... I loved Massaki and Jenna. Jordan started the class I took with him off weird .. very group fitness like "Alright let's pop into down dog" seemed like a weird way to start the class to me. Pilar I found super annoying. If you haven't checked out other studios in the area I'd reccomend Inner Strength the classes there seemed more 'yogi' like to me, studio is a little bigger, classes are less crowded and it didn't feel so group fitness-y to me. Despite all of this I love the amount of classes they have offered. read more

As refugees from a nearby "yoga-mill" my boyfriend and I warily attended our first class and were rewarded with a wonderful teacher, and clean, bright, spacious and evenly heated studio, and convenient free parking. Following the class I had a question, and when I called I was directed to email the studio owner. I sent her an email after four pm, and when I arrived at the studio that evening, she had called, and had the answer waiting for me at the front desk when I arrived, I didn't even have to ask, when I mentioned my name, the man at the front desk (the owner's husband I believe) immediately recognized who I was, and was so helpful. I was made to feel so welcome, and not a bother at all. And once again the class was fantastic. We are just delighted with the Needham location yoga classes, and I'm looking forward to checking out a pilates class at the Wellesley location this week. Tried HYP's (very) hot power flow yoga recently after my girlfriend bought Groupons for us. I was(am) a novice, and had to take a break, but WOW, the class was one of the most challenging and rewarding exercise experiences I have ever had. The heat did wonders for my body and flexibility, and I "discovered" "Yoga Bliss". The instructor (Masaaki) was great, and the assistant likewise. As I didn't know the pose names or proper form, having the assistance of the assistant was very helpful. I hope they will increase the number of classes with an assistant (but I am told That many studios don't have assistants for any classes). The studio is clean and very functional, and the staff is quite friendly. good class selection and two locations. A larger changing area would be good, but the shower comes in handy. I have gone back for additional classes, and highly recommend HYP and hot yoga to anyone who does yoga, and to all of you who haven't tried it yet. read more
