As much as I enjoy Khalid's music, this doesn't really make for a very relaxing time, at least for me it doesn't. I was really perplexed, and after that I wasn't able to re-center myself and focus on being in the moment. My next issue is that I don't think they clean the rental mats between uses. I say this because when I returned my rented mat, the employee took it and placed it exactly in the pile where they first got it for me, not a separate "used/to be cleaned" pile. It was a bit concerning. Still debating if I should go back or not.

She then took us through a series of beginner exercises, while providing helpful explanations and commentary. We discussed gradually introducing yoga poses onto our daily routine, and why this is important as a counter-balance to daily routine imposed on us all in this computer driven age. I now have a solid basis to begin making changes in my health and life-style which I have wanted to make for years. Her manner was friendly, empathetic, and completely eliminated the intimidation I felt towards this complex subject. The smell that is mentioned in other reviews has gone down dramatically since all participants are required to use 2 towels to practice. (Guess what makes a Yoga Studio Smell?... the answer is you.) I have had to stop a few times for medical reasons, and each time I come back they welcome me back with open arms. I personally would suggest a private lesson after you have been practicing for a month. I would also think about doing another one every year if not 6 months as you continue to grow and change what you need to focus on.

Address is on Centre St. The studio is actually only accessible from Corey St (the one that has the lot on it). Traveling east on Centre St., take a right on Corey. The lot is one block down on the left and the studio is at the back of the lot on the other side of the street (which Yogis are not allowed to park in). I've gotten bad migraines after two of the hot classes here, both of which I found pretty boot-camp-y and un-yogic. One of them, the instructor was yelling about " Making your legs the same length " and " uneven limbs " the whole time. Well, I have many close to me with physical deformities/abnormalities--myself included--and that just completely took me out of it. I've had more empathetic experiences at Bikram inspired Hot 26. If you're very low body fat and love to take the most intense Power Flow classes on offer, this might be a good place for you. I have been practicing for six years and I'm in decent shape generally and on the intermediate end in most classes--but I was on the floor and ended up with bad migraines here. The Iyengar class was the opposite, very slow and jerky with extremely detailed cueing. Not a workout at all, but nice if you like Iyengar (I found here that I don't really).

Before pregnancy I was encouraged, coached, pushed, and supported by the coaches. The coaches make classes feel like it's an individual experience even in a big group. They call people by their names and they are so knowledgable, and attentive, always keeping safety as a top priority. They encourage you to do what is best for you. When I got pregnant they came up with whatever workout worked for me, especially when I got bigger. Miguel and Brian, two of my favorite coaches, were ALWAYS checking on me. I loved how Miguel never treated me like the pregnant lady. He believed in my ability to finish workouts, in the meantime asking about my heart rate, correcting my positions and encouraging me. Because I used to go to the 5:30am class (before it got too popular), Miguel was the primary coach so I can't speak for ALL coaches, but I've had classes with them all and enjoyed all classes. Here are the reasons why: The Coaches: There are four main coaches- Owner Tina, Brian, Miguel, and Mel- and they are all top-notch. They are a dedicated, knowledgeable, and dedicated to their craft. No matter whether a class has 2 or 15 people in it, they make sure each member is getting the coaching he/she needs to participate safely, get a great workout in, push themselves, and get a great workout in. Each coach also brings his/her own style and expertise, so if you get a chance to work with all of them you get a great all-around experience. The Community: There is a great mix of people here- old and young, from elite athletes to day-one beginners. The common thread is everyone welcomes and encourages everyone else no matter what level they are at. Coming from another Crossfit gym, it would have been easy to feel like an outsider for a while. Not here. People were friendly, encouraging and immediately treated me like I was part of their gym. From the start I have made friends and look forward to talking to them before and after class as much as the actual workout! Countless Intangibles: In the short time I have been there they have renovated, added to their rig, and brought in multiple orders of equipment. This reinvestment in the gym shows- it is in GREAT shape. The gym is clean, equipment is organized, there are three clean showers (separate from the bathrooms) with towels and toiletries provided. There is always a community event to look forward to- from charity workouts/fundraisers to nutrition, weightlifting, or running challenges to pot-luck parties. There is a wide range of hours (including classes on Sunday) and I haven't seen anyone turned away from a class yet. Whether you are curious about trying Crossfit for the first time or maybe you are an experienced Crossfitter and are thinking about changing boxes, I am convinced Crossfit BIG is the right fit for everyone.
