He usually spent only a few minutes with me, which I found disappointing for the cost. At my last visit, I arrived before another patient, but he chose to see her first. When it was finally my turn, he spent less than five minutes -- just a quick neck adjustment -- and then left. I was left lying there for about 30 minutes without him checking on me, until I finally got up and left on my own after being in his office for exact an hour. On top of that, when I felt I didn't receive proper treatment, I called and asked for either a reimbursement or another therapy session at no charge since he hadn't done his job. I made sure the receptionist understood that I wasn't going to pay, and she said, "Okay, hold on, let me check with him." When she came back, she told me I could come on a specific date. After driving 35 minutes to the office, she then told me I had to pay $95. I reminded her this was supposed to be a follow-up for the treatment I never received, but she insisted she had never confirmed I wouldn't be charged. Such a disappointing and unprofessional experience -- both with Dr. Lao and his receptionist. For the high prices they charge and the lack of care provided, I cannot recommend this practice to anyone.

I was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma on my nose, of all places. It has to be the most unforgiving cosmetically. I was not inclined to simply have the Moh's surgery performed as advised by Advanced Dermatology. I did not want to go through the possible necessity of a second reconstructive surgery and in fact, was terrified of the prospect of losing part of my nose or ending up with a significant deformity. In hindsight, that was my mistake in light of what has Happened. As a writer for Quora, the world's largest educational platform, I am privy to some of the world's best and brightest minds. I was not convinced that radiation was the evil demon I was led to believe it was by A.D. So I went to work researching the subject matter myself.. by going straight to the top in the field. Dr. Gary Larson is a now retired, Radiological oncologist with 35 years of experience. He was the founder of Proton Radiology and is well known in this particular venue. He is a fellow Quorian so I reached out to him. He not only debunked the myths about radiation that I was led to believe were scientifically accurate, he helped me decide that It was indeed the route for me personally. He even went so far as to make some calls and find a provider for me. That provider was to be Tampa Bay Radiology and Oncology. Specifically the Bruce B Downs location in Tampa, Florida. I switched my (state funded) medical insurance to comply with what they accepted and had my records faxed (twice) and waited for that all important phone call. After a period of 3 weeks, not hearing a word, I called inquiring about my case. I was informed they knew nothing about me and had never recieved my medical records. I immediately contacted Advanced Dermatology. I was quite upset with them..feeling they'd failed to do their duty in providing my records to T.B.R.O. They looked into it and got back to me right away. They advised me of precisely what day and time that my records were sent and confirmed this to my satisfaction. However, just to be on the safe side, I had them re-fax everything to the number provided to me, which was in fact, the number they also had on file. The wait began in earnest yet again. Days ticked by, then weeks and still not a word, a call, a letter, or an acknowledgment by Tampa Bay Radiation and Oncology. More calls were made by me and I was told the same thing, each and every time..that they'd "be in touch" that a "consultation would be set up" that "it would all be taken care of " Sadly and pathetically, I sit here 3 1/2 MONTHS later with the cancer still on my nose, rapidly growing with no hope in sight. I had already turned down the Moh's surgery and in fact, canceled the appointment that was scheduled to be performed 3 1/2 months ago. If I hadn't trusted TBR, it would all be over and done with and I'd be well on my way towards healing. Instead, I still have cancer. Cancer that's growing and expanding on my nose (which I was really hoping to keep..as we've grown quite attached to one another ; ) In the past month it's begun to envelop the entire tip and is now wrapping itself around my sinus cavity. This is deeply disturbing to me and is the direct causation of the immense anxiety that is becoming more and more difficult to control. In fact, I've had no choice but to begin taking Xanax just to cope. I don't want to believe that I've been essentially denied treatment because of my insurance which is notoriously crappy. Believe me, I wish I still had private heath insurance.. however, I didn't choose to develop Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 35 or to end up disabled and on governmental assistance. I needed an MRI and he refused saying that "X-rays didn't indicate I needed one" even though my arm is going numb, which indicates a pinched nerve in my neck. All of my personal doctors agreed that the issue was my neck. Previously, the X-rays for my back didn't show anything until I got an MRI, which showed bulging and herniated disks. I don't think he actually knows what he's doing or has just given up. I hate it when someone tries to mansplain things to me and that's all he did. Find a different doctor. The front office staff are nice though.
