I got the chicken shawarma and Greek fries. First of all, those Greek fries are freaking delicious. Probably best fries I've ever had. The shawarma was good, I think the meat needed more spice. I got the sauce on the side and I found it to be too heavy on the dill. It lacked something as well, maybe garlic? Food was not the best. After a few bites, the chicken feels dry and becomes harder to eat as you go along. I ordered the chicken schwarma. The food does come out hot, but almost too hot and you have to wait to enjoy it, if you can. The ground beef kabob didn't seem seasoned enough and was also somewhat dry. The grape leaves tasted like they came from a can. The staff was friendly, but that doesn't make it worth the drive. I was really disappointed. You can't beat the quality for the price. Baba's doesn't look like much - I think they'd rather treat you great and serve you high quality fresh food than spend a bunch of money on renovating and have to double their prices. Absolutely superb, especially in relation to other Greek/Mediterranean restaurants in the greater Cincinnati area, and we've tried practically all of them. We've even tried the expensive one North of Springdale, the under-rated Lebanese place by Eden park, and your favorite Greek place that's been around forever. Here are the few areas for improvement that I can see: -- Appetizer platter: Amazingly they don't include their 'Ful' bean dip appetizer on the platter, a real shame because I asked to substitute out their grape leaves, which are just about always purchased from some restaurant supply place and somewhat mushy by they time they get to your plate. Unfortunately the cashier said there'd ususally be a $3 upcharge for substitutions, and it's their restaurant so up to them to set policies, but they might consider letting the customer pick three or four of their favorites (and pick any two sauces instead of just one Tzaiki sauce). Otherwise they really should put the bean dip on the appetizer platter and drop the grape leaves, they're too much mush and too little flavor (just like everyone else), while their Ful is truly unique even for their category. -- Desserts: The Greek place in Harrison doubles as a dessert place and Sebastians in Westwood has great selection too, so adding just one more dessert option would make a big difference. -- Iced Tea: They offer brewed tea-bag hot tea, and used to have Gold Peak's iced tea machine, which offers a passable glass of iced tea, but now they switched to Pepsi and they have fountain Nestea Brisk iced tea, which is simply detestable to most iced tea drinkers. Considering that everything else has high fructose and aspartame is even more detestable. This is quite unfortunate, though for these people I suppose I could order an ice water for a sit-down meal and make my own table-side iced tea. -- Deep Fryer Oil: If they really want to kick it up a notch and leave the competition in the dust, consider Sebastians where they have a sign on the counter that they fry in pure canola oil. Kind of unfortunate for Sebastian's that the verdict on canola oil among foodies is it's really just marginally better than ubiquitous soybean oil, so the really top-notch choices would be rice bran oil or even coconut oil, which Costco sells in enormous tubs that practically fly off the shelf. That's literally ALL I can see that they'd need to make them a serious competitor to Andy's over by Eden park or the super-expensive place North of Springdale, especially when you consider they have lamb chops and several higher-end entrees that I can't pronounce (and I've lived in the Middle East as student for seven months) plus about six kinds of salads where you can add meat to any of them for three dollars. That said though, they really should spend $500 or so and update the decor to look less like a converted Captain D's fast food locale, which foodies wouldn't mind, and think of Mai Thai in Northern Kentucky for a place that packs the house in a converted Long John Silver's, and of course it's the best reviewed Thai location in greater Cincinnati. I wouldn't have ever discovered this place (much less driven over to the other side of town) if my job didn't require me to drive to all corners of the tri-state area. Yet again, thanks Yelp, you saved me from eating fast food. I've only ever gotten take out here, and to be honest, the interior is a little on the scary side. On both occasions, I ordered the fattoush salad and a chicken gyro. The first time I came here, everything was amazing and if I hadn't come back a second time, this place would have definitely received 4 stars. However, the second time I stopped by to excitedly order the same thing (sometimes I'm boring), I was disappointed in the quality of the chicken and the salad greens and didn't even finish my meal, which is saying a lot as I was 8.5 months pregnant. Overall, I'd say that, if in the area and dying for a gyro, this isn't the worst place to stop in to satisfy your cravings. However, I wouldn't suggest going out of the way to try it. read more

Great Gyro's, good prices and rotating specials plus BYOB, no brainer. Very friendly staff and a drive thru to boot. I was slightly dissapointed in the Shawarma wraps only because I felt they could have used a bit more sauce. we had picked them up and taken them home though so couldn't ask after the fact for more sauce (taziki sp?). Anyway, we eat there at least once oer month, definitely recommend if you are into mediterranean and are in the area. read more

An awful experience - I'd recommend skipping them. They promote using restaurant.com coupons (which are actually sold for real money by restaurants.com), but when we got there, they refused to abide by the terms of their own coupon. They refused to serve the lamb chops to anyone using a coupon (this was a main feature for me), even with a substitute for lamb, they used scraps of meat, rather than real pieces of meat appropriate to the dish. Then, they claimed that they "had to" add a 20% gratuity to anyone using their coupon. A Very dishonest business IMO. read more

I had heard a lot of good things about this place, so I was excited to give it a try. Was I sin for a disappointment. Despite not being busy, it took us forever to get a menu. My wife ordered some stuffed grape leaves and a philly sandwhich. I got the schwarma sandwich (never had one before) & a gyro. The one server moved slower than molasses in the wintertime. Kept calling me honey, and seemed to find time for multiple cigarette breaks, but not to get me a water or to check to see where our food was. It took us nearly an hour to get anything. We had almost decided to walk out, but our food finally arrived. It was decent (not great) which is the only reason I didn't give this place one star. I hope the service isn't always this abysmal. But we won't know if it gets any better, we aren't going back. I can get better gyros & service elsewhere. read more

Just got finished with our first meal here, I've been wanting to try it for a while but my husband is not into Mediterranean food. It was awesomely delicious!! I ordered a Fattoush salad with Gyro meat and was sort of just expecting plain lettuce with some Tzatziki sauce for dressing with Gyro meat, but was very pleasantly surprised with an awesome fresh salad filled with cucumbers, tomatoes, garlic, lemon and the best tasting dressing which was light but very flavorful. The pita squares were in the salad and had the most amazing flavor. The lamb portion on was very generous, I couldn't even eat it all. My husband ordered a regular cheeseburger with Gryo meat on top and fries. He loved it, and very rarely raves about his food. We will definitely be back with our kids and family. Horrible!,,, First and Last visit. The place looks straight out of 1990. We order the Gyro platter. The portion was good size. But have never seen a gyro served with 4 quarters of a pita pocket. They should serve with two halfs of a pita pocket, makes this easier to eat. The cucumber sauce , what a tasteless sauce. We ordered the schwarma . Now I have had many schwarma in the Netherlands being my husband is Dutch. I have never seen or had schwarma made with chicken. I have only had with lamb. But the chicken was not so bad as the GARLIC sauce OMG this was disgusting so OVER powering. This made me and my husband sick. It was like eating garlic right from the clove. They have THE best cheeseburger in the entire city. I have tried every burger joint and Baba's has the absolute best cheeseburger around. Make sure you get "everything on it" and not the Gyro Burger but the regular cheeseburger. They also have awesome Gyro's and frankly some of the best food around. The place doesn't look the best but honestly, I don't go there for the atmosphere. I am 100% convinced that anyone leaving a negative review is just a plant from another restaurant. If anyone is qualified to review Baba's on Harrison Avenue, it's me. I'm definitely hooked and carry-out at least once a week. Baba's is about 10 miles from home and is very affordable, so when i'm not in the mood for cooking (more often than not) and want to have a wholesome, healthy, meal, I hit Baba's. It's a family run restaurant with gifted cooks in the kitchen. Because I frequent the place so much, they know what I like (normally grilled fish with steamed veggies and babaganoush). They do some magic on this dish to make it ultra delicious....it's impossible to resist. Even my husband likes it, despite his normal dislike of fish. Knowing I have an adventurous palate, they always mix it up a bit for me so that it seems like a slightly different dish everytime. I have also noticed that they throw in that extra special touch, taking great care with the presentation - even with carry-out. I've tried many items on the menu and each one has been delicious. Baba's is a Mediterranean restaurant, but also offers American meals which they prepare equally as well. In addition to all these positives, I know that Baba's uses quality ingredients, and that quality is reflected in the food and in the special way they treat their customers. I highly recommend this restaurant. It's worth the distance. Seriously the best cooks in town! They always go the extra mile to make it great. read more
