We started using the after school program in the spring of 2016. The program seemed to help my…read morechild with math. We then bought a week of the summer camp that was reading and math. The instructors did the same math material as that already done in the after school program. At the end of the week they admitted that they had overlooked that my child had already done that part of the program, so that was a waste of time and money. They also had lost his reading and writing work, so we don't know how well the camp helped in that subject. The camp location is a rundown two room area on top of another business which is not an ideal setting for young children. We decided to continue with the program in the fall of 2016 and my child seemed to be getting better at a slow rate, but he was improving. However, when I registered my child for the winter 2017 program the instructor called me and refused to accept my registration because she thought that my 7 year old was too disruptive. Never before was anything said to us about any problems. This was very hurtful that a business that we gave money to and trusted would be so negative about a child. It makes me believe that the instructor has poor class room management skills and this may be why we saw such slow progress. I would give the program three stars, but the unprofessional behavior of the instructor is hard to overlook.

We love the daily reports! The security protocols provide an effective defense-in-depth strategy that I think adds significant peace of mind. The children are safe, secure and well taught. Discipline is effective and consistent with a focus on positive reinforcement and good decision making. Accidents/incidents are communicated rapidly and the staff are very attentive to the health and well being of our children. The facility is clean and sanitized with the attention of detail that has resulted in the best environment for our children. The food options are excellent and provide a balanced meal to keep our little ones fed and nourished. Issues or concerns that were communicated by myself to the staff were respectfully discussed and addressed in a timely manner. The events and activities that are sponsored by the academy are great team building opportunities for the parents and staff. Additionally, they provide a strong foundational marker for the children to observe the parents being a part of their educational journey. Highly recommended!

They spend their days outdoors, exploring nature, and doing all sorts of amazing activities. Bonfires, tubing, swimming hole, fishing, zip lining, you name it! And even horseback riding now, too. The staff are wonderful and attentive - getting to know all of the children (not just the ones assigned to their groups). This camp is the perfect contrast to a school year spent indoors at a desk - get out into nature and explore!

My child has been physically dragged, cursed at, and made fun of by a Bar-t staff member. The staff member has also mistreated several other kids in Bar-t this year on a number of occasions. When parents complain, the owner says he has no plans to get rid of the staff member, and does little to give parents confidence that their kids will be treated well in the future. Some of the best staff who supervise the kids have left Bar-t because this new owner is a bully who underpays them. Go elsewhere for good after school care.

Carpool is a disorganized mess that backs up into the road. No pickup system, no letters or numbers…read moreassigned. Sometimes the kids aren't at the pickup location on time. Sometimes they lose a kid and the entire car line sits for 15 minutes while they search the property. Only one counselor works the pickup line for some reason. Instead of apologizing for being late and losing kids the staff is rude, abusive, incompetent, and endangers the children.

Over the years "graduates" of Valley Mill came back to be Counselors. I couldn't swim and was afraid to even try...but...long story short I went on to be on a college swim team. It wasn't about being competitive, but just for the sense of knowing I could do it...that is the success of Valley Mill. About positivity!
