We booked a 3 hour tour and had a great time. Sarah was an amazing tour guide. My son decided he wanted to fall off the snowmobile, and Sarah ensured he was ok and helped him get back on the "horse". Overall we had a great experience and highly recommend booking with Backcountry.

We planned a family trip with my brother's family to ski in Park City, but my niece blew out her leg. Sis-in-law looked for activities she could do and came up with snowmobiling. Sounds fun, we're in - we had a blast! New Year's Day 2025, took the drive out here for a 4 o'clock start to a 2-hour tour. Gage and Ben were excellent instructors / guides with great knowledge of the area, kept us entertained with their stories. They tailored our experience, which was much appreciated. Some wanted to go fast, others wanted to see the beautiful terrain & we got both. Highly recommend

We had such an amazing ride. I would highly recommend them. They were so accommodating for us. Make sure that you have a confirmed ride back to town as uber/lyft will not do it.

10/10! Couldn't have had a better experience! Pricing was great and since we went on a slower day it was just us and our guide. The views are MAGNIFICENT and I've never seen such beautiful mountains and snow. For a great time, book here!! You won't regret it!

Lots of fun and a beautiful trail! Got to go through some beautiful sections in the woods that took us to a great open space to have some fun before heading back down.

Had a fantastic time with Backcountry. Plenty of gear, helmets, etc. in all sizes. Took time to explain safety and operation of snowmobiles. Great tour path. Saw some moose during the ride.

We had the best time here! Gage was our guide and we got to be the only group he took out for the tour. He took great care of us taking us to cool scenic spots, pointing out animals and mountains and state lines. It was one of the best activities we've done in a long time and we're so grateful! If you're thinking about doing this on your Utah trip we can't recommend it enough. Thank you Gage for the incredible tour and day!

We did the 2 hour tour with Backcountry Snowmobiling last week and had the BEST TIME! Truly one of the best experiences we've ever had. We were lucky enough to get Gage as our guide and he was awesome! He was so friendly and made our group feel comfortable right away. He also made sure to take photos of us and to take us to a few of his personal favorite spots. The equipment was in great shape and very easy to use, and all of the staff was very friendly and helpful. They advised us on whether or not they thought we would be too cold or uncomfortable in certain gear that we had, and had gloves, jackets, boots, etc available to rent which helped a ton. We were all very comfortable and warm throughout the tour. The dogs/puppies playing around upon arrival was an added bonus. Our only regret was not doing the 3 hour tour!! Thanks Gage and Backcountry! We will be back!

Our snowmobiling excursion was absolutely AMAZING! Sarah is an incredible guide that adapted to mine and my buddy's skill levels. She is the coolest! We will definitely ask for Sarah when we go back here. At only a one hour drive from Park City, BackCountry is the best snowmobiling experience in the Park City and Salt Lake City area. The trails are great and the meadow freestyling was the bomb! Thanks, Sarah!!! (And after working up an appetite, on your way back thru the sleepy town of Coalville, stop in and see Annie and her husband at Annie B's Pizzeria -- excellent pizza pie made from scratch using a recipe from back east of n NY.)

Great place for both beautiful vistas and to learn how to snowmobile. Be sure to ask for Gage as your tour guide!

I found this site and purchased a 4 hour dig package as a surprise for her and to say it was a hit would be an understatement, The purchase was easy, and they kept us updated on the upcoming dig with emails and additional information which was great. We stayed in Kemmerer which is close by and the driving instructions to the site were easy to read and got us there with no issues. Once off the paved highway there is a bit of a drive to the dig site, and it is on dirt roads. It is also through open range so free grazing cattle and sheep can be near and, on the road, so be careful. Go slow... they will give you the stink eye for making them move but they do move. Once at the dig site there is plenty of parking and check in was easy. The staff was wonderful and very informative. While I opted to stay in the car and read a book, I could see the dig site and watch my wife who was like a kid in a candy store. She found many fish fossils and the staff were always wondering about the site to offer advice and help. Based on a previous review we brought plenty of bubble wrap and a container to put here treasures in. So, thank you to Janet the author of the post

This was my third 8-hour visit to American Fossil Quarry (visted in 2024 and 2025). The first two times we went were awesome, but unfortunately (as my title shows) the third time was a bust. The rock quality was just not good and despite splitting rock faster than I ever have before I did not find much. And based on what the people around me found (aside from one lucky find), nobody else was finding much either. I didn't find a (mostly) intact small fish fossil until hour 3. The staff also acknowledged that the rock quality wasn't great (and very kindly proud us rock from a different pile to split, although that unfortunately didn't yield much). We left with less than10 okayish common fish fossils after 8 hours. This is like 1/5 of what we brought home the two years previously, not including the higher quality specimens we found. I fully understand that the owner and staff cannot control the quality of the rock on a particular day. You get what you get, as the saying goes. I don't know if there is anybody to blame except nature itself. I also acknowledge that I am largely only interested in higher quality fossils and so naturally I'm going to be pickier than most guests. However that does not change the fact that I left feeling extremely discouraged (esp. considering the amount of money we spent to come here) and we will likely not return. The reason I am making this review is I want to let everybody to know that the experience you get is up to chance. You could have an amazing time with lucky finds, or have it be a complete bust. If you're somebody who doesn't particularly care about the quality/rarity of the fossils you get, you will probably still have a good time no matter what. But if you're primarily interested in higher quality specimens, maybe save your money and put it towards purchasing a nicer fossil in the future.
