DJ Sherwin was great! I was throwing an old-school house party for my birthday and wanted to relax without having to worry about the music. My wife booked the DJ and he showed up about an hour before start time to set up. He asked me what type of music I liked and I replied "90's hip-hop". He was about the same age as me so I could tell he knew exactly what type of music I liked. Sherwin brought his own lights and table and all the equipment needed to have good time. We had about 100 guests show up and everyone enjoyed themselves. He played a great mix of music and did an excellent job reading the crowd and adjusting as needed to keep the dancing going. DJ Sherwin had the unenviable task of handling the last hour of our wedding, when guests were going to be tired and ready to call it a night. We also had a 13 piece band just finish a knock out set, and the bar was extremely high at that point. It was an impossible job, but DJ Sherwin came and turned the tables, and brought us all joyously into the late night with an energetic and brilliant performance. DJ Sherwin is wonderful to work with. From the very beginning, he worked with our budget. My husband and I had our wedding at an unconventional venue, where there was a loft and outdoor patio. DJ Sherwin attended our walkthrough and worked with our Day Of Coordinator to ensure that our vision for the wedding would come to life. We provided some songs to our playlist, but ultimately, we asked him to play certain genres and decades, and he delivered and exceeded expectations. This post is totally overdue... Highly recommend!! DJ Sherwin was the DJ and MC at my wedding Sept 4, 2021. He is amazing! So many things he did to help make my husband & I day special & the best it could be... From working with him to prep for the wedding to the actual day, he did an amazing job! Not only is he great at his work, he is a pleasure to work with. He had a wonderful planning tool to work with as well that really helped to provide song ideas, plan songs, and also allowed to mark songs not to play (sometimes just as important). For the day of, he set up 3 separate stations - Ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception (including lighting). He was also very prepared - the venue unfortunately had an issue with electricity, but it wasn't going to stop having sound at ceremony bc he brought his own generator - it saved the day setting up and getting the live stream ready. I loved that he was prepared & had a backup plan. Live streaming - he also knows what to do to work with the live stream vendor to provide the best sound on your live stream - my family & friends out of state or that couldn't make it got to hear everything & we also now have a beautiful recording of the live stream. We didn't have a rehearsal at venue bc venue schedule & distance, but he was able to make us a copy of all the ceremony music to practice with - especially a special cut version of a song for the groomsman. I was having a hard time figuring out what song for the flower girls & ring bearer & he was ready with helpful suggestions. Working with him, you can tell he is a professional and has many years of experience. I highly recommend him for your wedding or any other DJ event needs. Sherwin really made our wedding unforgettable! He spent time getting to know my husband and my taste in music/preferences. The planning session with him was a lot of fun and we really felt that he cared about our event. He made sure to be in contact with our wedding coordinator and photographer. We had a pretty unique area for the DJ booth (speakers had to be placed inside the covered area, but could face outwards towards the ceremony area), and Sherwin was so adaptable! We hired Sherwin for a high school class reunion with about 220 people at an outdoor venue in downtown LA. He was a huge part of our very successful event. He totally read the vibe of the group, recognized that during part of the event we wanted more mellow background music, and then evolved into a great dance mix. He smoothly mixed our requests for classic rock and roll together with R&B and Motown, and a mix of more current music, keeping everyone happy throughout the evening. We had a small backyard wedding, was supposed to be a lot bigger but ya know... Covid happened. Sherwin was flexible, his website was super easy to use to add songs, he responded in a timely manner every time. He even helped me with a timeframe for the night. He showed up early to set up, and oh my goodness the uplighting made everything pop! I still can't believe that was in MY backyard!!! Sherwin is a professional - he was extremely curteous when working with our venue despite time contraints. He was able to get the job done, set up and have everything sound just right in time for the wedding. His humor as a DJ and MC also helps to keep the crowd entertained and engaged in the event, rather than on their phones. He was on time and knew how to keep the event on track for the evening. He met with us several times, communicated well in advance on what our expectations were. He was at the rehearsal as well to ensure he knew what he needed the day of. I cannot express how great it was to work with Backspin Entertainment (DJ Sherwin Ruste). Sherwin is engaging, fun& everything you need in an emcee/DJ for your wedding! He was communicative, very responsive & most of all VERY accommodating beginning to end. It was hard for all of us to get together at a decent time to meet in person because of work schedules & the distance between us (Torrance to Orange County), but Sherwin was willing to come to us and meet in OC, even at a later time accommodate. This was helpful & it definitely showed us how serious he was compared to other DJ's & made it easier narrowing down our search. Sherwin's awesome sample music and videos + his high energy wasn't the only reason why we chose him, seeing how he listened to our concerns and wants (uplights, monogram, music, etc) & worked this into our wedding budget was a huge plus. He wasn't one of those wedding DJ's where they make you pay 40%-50% up front or pay in full, he truly wants to work with you & will accommodate to your wants & needs. Sherwin also made sure to make it our wedding rehearsal to play "my ceremony walk song" so that I was ok with the version he had, but he also wanted to confirm the music we chose & last minute changes we had made. He worked well with our wedding coordinator & helped orchestrate a lot of the events through the night. What amazed me more was Sherwin saw and felt the energy of our wedding guests & kept the party going. He wasn't a party pooper & cut off the time that was scheduled on our contract, but instead he felt the energy in the crowd & played an additional 45 minutes.
