This review is long overdue, but I highly recommend Christian. I'm a DJ myself and I'm also a Yelp Elite (currently 4 years in a row)... so I hope that speaks to my own credibility here, at least a little. As a DJ, I had a strong sense of what music I wanted including what a good DJ is versus a bad one. Plus, music was one of the few major wedding planning responsibilities I was given, other than showing up both on time and dressed properly :) Let's just say, I did not want to screw this up by hiring a lame DJ. Anyway, it was a few years ago... a perfect day in Malibu... and Christian arrived on time and ready. He has a system for working with his clients, which definitely influenced me in realizing how organized I need to be when preparing for a serious gig like a wedding. Christian has the experience and that allowed me to worry about one less thing on my wedding day. Like most cases, I think success heavily depends on communication and Christian always responded to all of my emails in a timely manner. One of our biggest concerns was for the reception to be fun, not drag on slowly like many do, and for everyone to enjoy themselves and dance!! He definitely met that expectation with great song selections, solid mixing (not abrupt stop/play or non-beat matched transitions.. one of my DJ pet peeves), and professional MCing (not cheesy) that helped lead the party along the planned timeline. The dance floor was filled all night! Finally, Christian will go above and beyond if need be. One example I clearly remember is when the projector screen became unstable due to the increase in wind (outdoor reception) and Christian jumped right behind it to keep it propped up (for the entire slideshow). Christian is amazing and is so talented at what he does! Christian was our DJ/Emcee for my wedding on 9/3/2011, and helped make the day even more perfect due to his attention to detail and professionalism. From our 1st meeting, Christian was high-energy, enthusiastic and gave us good ideas and suggestions for the event. He does much more than "spin records" - Christian created the timeline for the entire day, provided the music for the ceremony and reception, set up "uplighting" in the ballroom, ran a slideshow we created, as well as, acted as Emcee for the night and kept everything on schedule! Afterburn Productions - DJs Near Me - Torrance, California

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Afterburn's services. We booked Christian for our wedding for DJ, MC, and lighting services. Up to the wedding, Christian was a very organized albeit fairly intense person. He is a person that wants things done exactly his way e.g. no google docs, we had to burn a DVD for our slideshow, etc. He did not research or scope out our venue because he said it would cost us extra money (other vendors went to the location to scope it out for free during the quote process). He also stated that he had done weddings there before, so we trusted him. On the day of the wedding, several things went horribly wrong. 1) Half of our venue lights failed, which horribly affected our photos and video 2) Our microphone failed during our vows After the wedding, there was a "he said, she said" battle between our venue and Christian about whose fault it was, but in the end, Christian did not want to get on the phone for a discussion, even after we offered to pay for his time, so we are left to believe it was due to lack of research on his end. Christian claims there are "tons of complaints" about the electrical and lighting issues online, but I have not seen any such complaints. Also, he said there would be recordings of our vows and speeches, but we did not receive any recordings because supposedly his recorder was stolen by a someone at the wedding. Pros: Organized Good music selection Cons: Overall attitude No research of venue No recording of vows and speeches Post wedding support UPDATE: Christian emailed me this in response to my post "You will remove all fraudulent reviews you have left on Yelp, Wedding Wire and any other internet source today, or I will be suing you for Slander and False Claims. Both my husband and I had the pleasure of having Christian as our DJ on our June wedding. We both had the ceremony and reception at the hotel and we couldn't have been happier. Christian pretty much made our event not only very memorable with a very fun atmosphere, he also lent us a hand by acting as a coordinator, and making sure our event was perfect since we were having timing problems with our hotel. Christian is awesome! He is cool, calm and collected. We worked on a wedding together yesterday and due to unforeseen circumstances, the entire wedding floor plan had to be changed in a matter of 15 minutes. There were very high winds at this outdoor venue. Everything was moved from outside to in. Not a problem for Christian! He had the right equipment, right set up and was able to accommodate. Ours was a gay wedding, and Christian had no problem with it, and was even enthusiastic about it! My partner was more particular about the music selection than I was, and we did want to avoid most stereotypical gay and wedding music (no "Chicken Dance", no "It's Raining Men", etc.). We also had a wide range of ages, and together (with his help) we were able to put together a play list that had current hits and classics. He was very accommodating to what we wanted. We did have to pre-plan with him quite a bit (but again, more because my fiance was quite particular about his music choices), but come the day of the wedding, he made it very easy for us and did exactly as we asked. The only problem was that we didn't get enough time on the dance floor, but that was the fault of our caterer serving dinner too slowly, not his--in fact, he even tried to speed it up along for us as best he could, which we appreciated. read more

Christian is the perfect wedding DJ. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect DJ for our wedding. From start to finish, Christian controlled the flow and timeline of the entire reception to make sure everything went perfectly. Also, he made the event fun! He worked together with our band, photographer, wedding party, reception venue to make sure everything ran smoothly. Before the wedding he worked with us on the program and made sure that we had the right music for all the different parts of the reception. If Christian was not there, I don't think my wedding would have gone as smoothly as it did because I felt like I could be worry-free about the time-line because he was keeping everything going by communicating with all the other vendors. We hired Christian to be the DJ for our wedding on March 20, 2012. When we first met with him he was very professional and great to get along with. He asked us what we wanted song wise step by step for the entire event, and he was spot on with our requests. On the day of the wedding he was there bright and early to set up. Aferburn Productions came highly recommended to us when my husband and I got engaged last year. My husband's brother also used his services in the past for his wedding. Christian was always prompt with responses to emails, and was very helpful with suggestions for our reception timeline but also willing to accommodate whatever cultural elements we needed to add to cater to our mostly Asian guests. He was the MC, DJ, and also took care of the uplighting and photobooth for our wedding of 300 guests last month on 4/13/14. We gave him an idea of the type of music we liked with names of specific artists, and he created a playlist according to our preferences and kept the dance floor going all night. The photobooth was open-air and had really cool props that everyone enjoyed immensely. There was also a big monitor that displayed and looped all the pictures so that everyone could see. On our actual wedding day, Christian and his assistant were well prepared, energetic, and collaborated with all our vendors and coordinators to ensure that things ran smoothly and on time. Christian happily provided amplification for the string musician that we hired to play during dinner. He is good at what he does and we would gladly hire him again for any big events! I found Christian through my wedding photographer's recommendation and I'm so glad that we decided to go with him! He made a great impression from the beginning - we knew he would be a great DJ, from all of the energy that he brought. Christian and I met 3 times before the actual wedding to discuss the music selection, the lighting, gobo, etc. Christian has done many weddings before and was very experienced and resourceful. We were relieved to hear that he's played at our reception venue a few times before. On my wedding day last month, he lit the place up beautifully with the uplights, and our gobo looked fantastic. We submitted a list of songs that we liked and didn't like, and Christian knew exactly what to play on the day of! Everything went very smooth, and I was extremely happy with the grand entrance to the cake cutting to the slideshow. He executed everything perfectly! I was a photographer at a wedding he was DJing, and to this day many years later, if anyone asks for a DJ he's the only one I refer. He has a excellent drive to make the night *as* perfect as it can be. Chris acts as MC, and does the job of what a wedding planner should be doing, making the day through evening organized and flowing from one moment to the next. A typical DJ would not do that. Our event planner recommended Christian for my 40th party. He handled all the music and the lighting. He was communicative, responsive, hardworking and the party was A-MAZING. I cannot speak highly enough of Christian's work ethic and how much he went over and above the call of duty. He got there at 9am and stayed until 11pm when the cops came knocking. We are Asian Indian, so we had a blend of Top 40 and Indian Music. I was extremely happy with the way Christian handled the music. Christian is High Energy and a lot of fun to have around. We didn't want the typical DJ experience at our wedding. We weren't having special dances, or even a cake cutting ceremony. It was a backyard wedding at our house and what we really wanted was a party with a playlist created almost completely by us from start to finish with a few callouts during the night for a toast or two. Most important to us was that the music was on, the party was on and that it be seamless. But the DJ needed to also know just when to kick it up a notch to get things moving along. Sure most people may not want or need all that but Christian took every possible effort to not only hear our desires but to do whatever he could to improve upon our special day. I wasn't quite sure what to expect as the day unfolded but Christian not only handled his business, he was there at every turn helping everything else happen--working with the wedding coordinator, photographer--you name it! He really brings a personable experience to the entire process. Upon first meeting, he is collected and leaves you with a feeling that he can handle it. He was TOTALLY into the idea of letting us pick every single song, providing him with the music in .mp3 files and working through all of it, creating playlists in the order we wanted and making it all perfect. Christian also brought up really good ideas about contingency plans in case of rain, having your DJ be a registered professional and having a proven history of quality work. He also has a full array of lighting that he was willing to provide within the cost. But he didn't just stop at being a DJ. He also offered to shoot photos of the overall event. Of course we already had our wedding photographer but he was interested in also shooting photos in his spare time. He shot some great photos and he gave us all the photos very promptly in the mail following the wedding.
