First time in a Bagels and Beans Cafe. Had the classic salmon and bagel. Tasted wonderful with the capers and onions. Never tried such a combination but it worked. I was a little suspicious of a place with an English name but my son insisted on having a bagel and I could use a rest so we ended up sitting down at one of the tables inside. It is at the heart of the Flea Market so it is hard to miss it. We ordered their breakfast special, which comes with a fresh squeezed juice, a bagel with cream cheese and a cup of any coffee/latte for 5 Euro. I think that is quite a steal actually. The bagel actually took a long time and I guess that was because they only had 1 girl working on all the food orders. However, the bagel was actually really good and nicely toasted. The orange juice was refreshing and I got to have a big mug of latte. Overall, this is a solid breakfast/coffee shop because the vibe was really casual and friendly. Overall I never thought Bagels & Beans is a five-star cafe, however their effort (specifically their CEO) I thriving to be their best deserves an extra star. I've been living in the Netherlands for 5 years now. The changes that Bagels & Beans made to their menus and their effort to a sustainable environment really impressed me. Their menu has gotten so much better over the years I've lived here. They're also one of the early adopters of Matcha lattè. The quality of their bagels may not compare to some of the high end New York bagel joints but they are close. A nice discovery while traveling to Amsterdam. We were looking for a cosy and tasty breakfast and Bagels and Beans sure did not disappoint. Compared to other Amsterdam cafes, the location seems - at first - just "ok". However, once you enter you'll soon feel like at an old familiar place. Sit at a lateral table facing the lively market and you'll enjoy the tapestry of locals walking, buying and walking their dogs. About the food: the menu presents a vast selection, although the main focus is bagels. You can pick individual bagels or have one included in a bundle, together with coffee, fresh juice and extra ingredients. In addition, you can pick your favorite wheat. All bagels come warm and moist and delicious. Prices are fair and good for the pocket. read more

I love this B&B at Waterlooplein. I usually sit at a window so I can watch all the people passing by. Waterlooplein is a fun place for people watching! Like all B&B's the bagels are absolutely delicious! The coffee is nice as well but I usually order a matcha latte :) Prices are great too and the interior, like any B&B, is cozy. On a crisp Tuesday morning we entered the bagels & beans to be kindly asked to take a seat, "we'll be right with you." A long 15 minutes later we were forced to avail ourselves upon the counter. "Excuse me, do we order here?" "No sir just have a seat and we'll be right with you." "Oh well it's been 15 minutes and no one has so much has stopped by for our drinks." "Oh--" (ensue frantic scurrying to take our order) You see, it's fine with me when a store is generally busy--but unfortunately it was half full; The store seemed fully staff (4+) people; the waitresses walked past at least a half dozen times without even a cursory, "I'll be right with you." Been backpacking in Europe for about 7 weeks now and so I'm used to the general lack of quality service, but if it weren't for the gluten-free bagels for my girlfriend here, I would've walked out. Bad enough that I had to shame the staff into realizing they had missed us sitting in the corner. To expand further upon the point of bad service, in the 20 minutes since we have placed our order (still waiting on that food of course): -multiple tables still wait to be cleared since before we arrived 45 minutes ago -multiple other customers had to actively flag down waitresses in order to make an order (seriously, we are here to GIVE YOU MONEY!!) -multiple other customers simply left without making an order It's not even that the waitresses are discourteous, they simply lack any manner of training allowing them to serve the customers. Staffing problems-- insufficient. Food was meh. Prices were a bit high. Selections were fun, but they were out of several selections on a Saturday morning. Staff obviously overworked and untrained. Lots of promise, and the coffee was tasty if dull. Lots of smokers on the terrace made for a worse experience. read more

I love all the Bagels and Beans sites. But this one is particularly handy because of the location (close to the Metro station and tram stops). The service is not fast but also not slow, the staff is very friendly and it has a nice view of the waterlooplein neighborhood. read more

I was at this restaurant today, Wednesday July 5 2017. I sat outside around 1400 hours. Here is why they get 1 star from me. I ordered a tuna sandwich on a bagel and a bottle of water. Bottle of water arrives just fine. One or two more people sit down outside while I wait. Waitress brings a tuna sandwich on a bagel to lady sitting at table next to me. She looks at the plate puzzled. She takes a slice of cucumber off the plate and eats it. About two minutes later, waitress comes back, talks to the lady next to me, then takes this plate away from her. The waitress gives her a different tuna sandwich (no cheese, ona different bagel). She walks off with the first tuna sandwich and disappears inside. A minute later she comes to my table and hands me the plate and sandwich she JUST took away from the lady next to me. I said, "This is the sandwich you just took from that lady" and pointed at my neighbor. Waitress says, "Yes, but she didn't touch it". I said, "Yes she did, I saw here take a piece of cucumber and eat it." The waitress had not bothered to replace the missing cucumber slice. Waitress says, "Would you like another one?" I said, "Yes, please !" Waitress takes plate away. Ten minutes later a different waitress brings me back the SAME plate. I could tell by the slices of cucumber on the plate, and by the way the bagel was sliced. Here's the rule: When I go to restaurant, I don't expect to be served food that was pawed over, picked at, and then taken away from another diner ! For that you get one star !
