    Bagel and chai latte.
    Milo D.

Not sure why Yelp is showing this as closed for business, since I am typing this review from a chair within the coffee shop while having a chai latte and a bagel. Now that I have established this as being an open business, I would like to give it a glowing review. Inside is a nice welcoming environment that is perfect to sit down, relax, and have a coffee. The service was friendly and listening to the banter between the employees was entertaining. As to the coffee and bagel, they were good. Not the best ever but still good enough to receive a high rating from me.

Everything Bagel with Avocado, Tomato, Mixed Greens, Cucumbers and Hummus

I was so so happy when I found this cafe (and the subsequent locations around the city). I had been ordering dry toast for breakfast (topped with a flourish of table salt and pepper) in Amsterdam, so to stumble on a place that has tea, coffee, bagels, veggies, and WiFi made my day. Made many days, in fact: I ate at one location or another probably five times during the week I was in Amsterdam. I always ordered the same thing: an everything bagel with mixed greens, avocado & tomato, and I subbed hummus for cream cheese. The avocado was always at least half, the tomatoes were so ripe and juicy I ate them even though I usually turn up nose at 'em, and the hummus is creamy and mellow (not too tahini-i). Indeed, the whole bagel sandwich was always just so good and filling. The coffee is always good--I've had it black and had it in foamy latte form, and they offer soymilk, too. This place (I've seen over 10 locations now) is a great spot to grab a bite while travling for breakfast or lunch and check in with the rest of the world via the free wifi.

Fresh and great bagels - and also the brownies were great! Lots of different drinks - the chocomel was with real chocolate and the matcha latte was just wow!

Which makes me wonder... do faeries claim nationalities? I hope not. There's a minuscule indoor seating area, but come spring and summer - as long as it's not raining - you'll want to move on back to the very leafy and verdant outdoor terrace. If you're lucky, the one table that gives you rain protection but is still technically outdoors will be available. I was lucky. And it did sprinkle while I was there. I can't speak to the food. I only had fresh mint tea, served with honey and a teensy cookie. Let me tell ya... it was the day after Amsterdam's hottest day in recorded history and the entire city was just tuckered out. Feeble even. That's why I asked for ice and made my hot tea into an iced mint tea. Re-freshing! The menu offerings are limited but apparently satisfying judging from my dining companions' happy faces. The two women caring for us were terrific about setting the friendly tone. Recommend exploring around this charming spot on Utrechtsestraat for clothing and specialty shops and other highly rated eateries, including some Michelin-rated.

While it functions as a cozy, traditional Dutch brown café, virtually everyone comes here for one main reason: the famous Dutch apple pie (*appeltaart*). It completely lives up to the reputation. Served warm with a massive dollop of fresh whipped cream, it's thick, perfectly spiced, and has an almost cake-like crust that sets it apart. Pairing a slice with a fresh mint tea is pretty much mandatory. Because of its status and location, it's almost always buzzing with people--especially on market days--but the staff manages the perpetual queue remarkably fast. Snagging a table on the outdoor terrace for some people-watching along the canal is hard to beat. Whether you're taking visitors around the neighborhood or just out exploring the Jordaan.

I'd say about 95% of the people were ordering the apple pie, so of course we had to get one to see what the hype was about. The apple pie is pretty unique, it's basically a big chunk of cooked apple topped with a sweet, crumbly cookie like crust. The flavor reminded me of those little brown biscuits you get as airplane snacks... basically Biscoff cookies. lol!!! Overall, you really taste the natural apple flavor along with that Biscoff like cookie flavor. The pie itself isn't very sweet, which I actually liked, but adding some whipped cream definitely brings up the sweetness and makes it even better. The setup is pretty straightforward: get in line, order and pay, pick up your food, then find your own seat. It's definitely a popular spot, so be prepared for the crowd and a bit of a wait.
