This incredible shop is pretty much the Narnia of antiques. The shop front is only small, a modest…read morestandard size from the entrance, but boasts a hoard of items within. In the first section that you enter stands a whole host of tall glass cabinets, holding a number of gorgeous costume and antique jewellery items, medallions coins and other paranphenalia. As you move slowly through to the back, where begins the labyrinth, the rooms and corridors all fully packed with trinkets become apparent. Larger items are stacked -from boating bits, fire place accessories, old lamps, candle stands and more - throughout the space. There are rooms full of books and photographs, pictures and frames. Rooms full of furniture, some of which was utterly divine, some of which was ridiculously cheap. Rooms with clothing, rooms with knick-knacks, treasure boxes and more than I could possibly investigate as we were pushed on time during my visit. I wanted to delve further in, but alas my Dad was getting antsy and bored (no doubt hungry for lunch!), so we didn't get to explore the full maze of delights. It truly felt like I could just keep wandering further in, ever lost in a delightful old building, forever gazing at the antiquities and curiosities. I need to come back here, soon.

Best yet, the staff is friendly and enthusiastic about their products - they'll happily do a test run with inks so you can make a well-informed decision. Instead, I started wandering through antique shops to see what classic cultural treasures I could find. The London House Antique Center offers a wide variety of quality antiques that are sourced by around 20 local dealers. The individual bays were easy to access and browse, only occasionally requiring a key to a particular cabinet. The guy holding down the main desk was very helpful and informative as I identified 3 particular treasures (a small fishing tackle box, a heavy brass weight standard, and a copper/brass Morocco gun powder flask). Of course I purchased them all, weather I needed them or not. They still look great back home and in my opinion all were a very good value. Another trip would have pealed back another layer of this antique store onion. If I come again, I need to take a closer look at the antique tools, and old English football programs.

I guess it's mainly for tourists who want souvenirs or home-owners looking for an unusual picture to go on their wall. Aside from that, it's definitely worth a visit. So what does it stock? Maps - of the world, of countries, of Oxford - lots of historic maps which are really fascinating for seeing how things have changed, and are works of art in themselves, being mainly hand-drawn and illustrated. Prints - Japanese woodblock, metal engravings, normal paintings - fine art, English landscapes, maps. You can get basic prints for about £30 to frame yourself, but the sky's the limit with the upper prices here: think £1500 for an Italian copper engraving and you'll start to get the idea. So all in all, an unusual shop with some amazing pictures that look far better quality than a tatty poster. The staff are knowledgable and able to help unusual enquiries, which is very useful considering the thousands of items they stock. However, this is most definitely a specialist shop and it's easy to feel slightly out of place.

The girl working was very sweet, and they have free tap water if you have a refillable bottle, which was nice. It is not huge, but they have a solid variety of yarn to choose from.

This is a wonderful shop. They stock a huge range of fabrics - some of which cost as little as 2.99…read moreper metre. If you want to make curtains or cover furniture then this is the place to come. They stock mainly furnishing fabrics but also fleece, net and felt. And they have a couple of sidelines such as card making/scrap-book making supplies, beads and cutting foam to size. So the fabrics are good but the the service is amazing. I went in thinking about making a blind for a window. They had some material i liked but I only had the measurements for the actual window not for the amount of cloth I'd need. The guy there worked out how much I'd need, told me what else I'd need (tape, struts, cord, lining material) provided it, gave me some written instructions and when he discovered I'd never made a blind before pulled out from under the counter a plain blind for me to borrow so I could see what I was aiming out at, because, as he quite rightly said "it is sometimes hard to work out things out from written instructions". I've bought other things in this shop and the staff are always more than helpful. They really know their stuff and are very willing to share their expertise with you. I've made Thunderbird and bridesmaid costumes, beaded lizards, ribbons for young morris dancers, skirts and aprons with fabric and advice from this shop. They also run a curtain making service which they claim to be much cheaper than anything available with the Oxford ring road. I've not tried it but I'm willing to believe them. There is free parking nearby and buses from Oxford are very frequent (number 7a d 2). They are open 7 days a week.
