In the first section that you enter stands a whole host of tall glass cabinets, holding a number of gorgeous costume and antique jewellery items, medallions coins and other paranphenalia. As you move slowly through to the back, where begins the labyrinth, the rooms and corridors all fully packed with trinkets become apparent. Larger items are stacked -from boating bits, fire place accessories, old lamps, candle stands and more - throughout the space. There are rooms full of books and photographs, pictures and frames. Rooms full of furniture, some of which was utterly divine, some of which was ridiculously cheap. Rooms with clothing, rooms with knick-knacks, treasure boxes and more than I could possibly investigate as we were pushed on time during my visit. I wanted to delve further in, but alas my Dad was getting antsy and bored (no doubt hungry for lunch!), so we didn't get to explore the full maze of delights. I love browsing old antique shops. I rarely buy anything, but I love the feeling that hundreds of…read moreyears of history are in one room. Antiques on High has the proper smell of old things and has an interesting range of antiques. Rather than focusing on big pieces of furniture, which so many antique shops do, it uses its space wisely to host: Jewellery, books, records, clothes, ornaments, pictures, maps and various collectables. The condition of the goods varies, but they're priced fairly reasonably. I find it's best to go in without the aim of buying something in particular, but just to browse. I can't say anything has ever caught my eye enough to want to buy it, but I've seen plenty of other people who have found the perfect addition to their home or the ideal gift. The best bit is the craft section, where there's a gallery of jewellery, leather, pottery, glass and art in general, all produced locally and all promising to be valuable antiques in the future. There's a great range in here and you can get something for less than a pound or spend hundreds of pounds. Equally, you can pop in for a few minutes or spend hours browsing - it's almost like a mini museum. If you like antique shops, this won't disappoint; if you've never been in one, try approaching it. Don't be put off by the prison-like bars in the windows; the staff are friendly and it's a different world inside.

(Think 'Are you being served') It was gutted a few years back and although the building looks the same on the outside inside it's a totally different place. There are three floors (as per usual) which are jam packed full of things to peruse and buy! The womenswear floor is large with a wide range of items for women of any taste. They have a Coast branch inside and a big collection of fancy dresses to suit. The homeware floor is big as well with quite a decent range of kitchen utensils which is nice because a lot of stores skimp on things like this. All in all the store is nice and bright, it can get a bit congested on the escalators and in the lobby though so be careful.

Our recent UK trip included several days in London and a week walking in the Cotswolds. I'm a…read moreshopper, but for this trip I pretty much stayed out of gift shops. Instead, I started wandering through antique shops to see what classic cultural treasures I could find. The London House Antique Center offers a wide variety of quality antiques that are sourced by around 20 local dealers. The individual bays were easy to access and browse, only occasionally requiring a key to a particular cabinet. The guy holding down the main desk was very helpful and informative as I identified 3 particular treasures (a small fishing tackle box, a heavy brass weight standard, and a copper/brass Morocco gun powder flask). Of course I purchased them all, weather I needed them or not. They still look great back home and in my opinion all were a very good value. Another trip would have pealed back another layer of this antique store onion. If I come again, I need to take a closer look at the antique tools, and old English football programs.
