Food is ok I like their fried shrimp, but their not very welcoming at all. The lady in the front is not friendly.

Am always on the lookout for good fried clams with bellies; my never-fail, go-to is The Sail Loft on Atlantic Avenue; highly recommend it; excellent clams and everything else. These from Bait to Plate, however... well, it was not really clear what they were from their appearance. If you've seen advertisements anywhere for tender fried clams, these are not they. As I said, they don't resemble clams with bellies and while they were such, I believe, in some sense, they were tasteless and tough to boot. Go to The Sail Loft. I was lazy and wanted an Uber Eats delivery, or doordash, and the SL doesn't participate in those. After this, will haul my lazy patootie downtown so as not to be rudely disappointed, as I was by Bait to Plate. These clams would have been better off left wherever they came from. read more

I first ordered from Bait to Plate the week they opened several years ago. They were pretty good. Several years later, I was disappointed by my experience. The fried red snapper meal was about $24 and the fish is taken from their fish market section and then cooked. The issue is that there was one employee working and then the fish was very dry and bland. I can understand that it's hard to make multiple orders by yourself, but this business should staff at least one other person to support. Bait to Plate also needs work on the flavour. It doesn't have to be salty, but season the batter more. The French fries were good but the red snapper was very disappointing. It was fried but the only discernable seasoning was black pepper. I had to douse the fish in lemon and then add salt to both sides. I didn't eat the whole thing because it was so dry. I really hope this place gets it together as fish markets that also cook the fish are dwindling. The idea is great but the execution needs work. read more

The food overall is subpar, sometimes it's way too salty, other times it's as bland as water. For the love of God, don't order the scallops because they usually fried it dry like an eraser. The coleslaw is a crime against humanity due to sloppy texture while tastes like sour cream and mayonnaise decides to crossbreed. And yet, the cherry on top for this place is how they'd deem your order isn't worth their time and refuse you service: a half dozen oysters order is too bothersome to shuck so they won't do it, even when I have ordered other things on the menu to bump the total up. I gave this place 3 tries before writing this review, and I will not come back here ever again. Also if you want to try your luck, better check your food before leaving because the server tends to mess up your order. read more

Went and got some fish for lunch and the thought it was ok , but on the way out seen what to appear like rat poo. Wasnt sure and hope I was mistaken.. i eat my lunch and the fish was super fishy , about an hour later I got violently sick along with throwing up. I got wicked bad diarrhea.. i believe i got food poisoned. It's recommended to avoid this establishment zero stars if I could. read more

Okay, tell me why I get to the restaurant after taking a Lyft and find out that they can't serve me because they don't have a cashier they're supposed to open up at 10:30a and it's 11a. I would rather not to make business with the merchant. The staff is always not proper in their communication and would become angered and unreasonable for simple instructions or for concerns presented. I order several times, I thought the first time was an honest error and I wanted to give proper consideration. After five times, the rice for their Shrimp Fried Rice, a cost of $15.95 is served as a large platter of rice in conditions not safe to consume and 4 or five shrimp. The dish has a questionable taste every time and it has ruined an experience that was expected to be enjoyable and safe.l I reccomend please be cautious and have the consideration for better quality and for better standards. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! Warning~you could get sick. I hesitated to give this review because I don't like to tear down small businesses but I honestly think this place is a safety hazard. If I could give This place zero stars I would. I got oysters from this place. My gut told me that I should have left when I walked inside. It smelled like ammonia and bad seafood. I opened up the oysters when I got home and they smelled terrible and looked awful. I called the restaurant and the owner hung up the phone on me 3 different times. It was Christmas Eve, and she wanted me to drive the food back to the restaurant so she could take them back, and wasn't even going to reimburse my money. Last week, my friends and I order some o'boys and fried rice. My friends got shrimp po'boys and I went out on a limb and ordered the lobster po'boy. They were dressed with lettuce, onions, tomato, and mayo. The seafood was seasoned well and lightly battered and fried on a hoagie bun. The po'boys were good and enough to eat in two sittings, if you only eat one half like we all did. The fried rice I ordered was shrimp fried rice. Less than ideal. Should have read the reviews. It was close by to me so I figured it was worth a shot. Got the fisherman's platter because I wanted a sample of everything. Yikes. Calamari was tougher than a belt, scallops tasted slightly synthetic and the clam strips were pretty much all breading. The clam box is a lot pricier, but is infinitely better than this garbage. So I ordered the fisherman's plate, the veggie fried rice and the flounder plate which goes for $19.95. When my order arrived I noticed that what was supposed to be a flounder plate looked more like the Porgy plate $12.95. I called to make sure that it wasn't a wrong order situation and the lady that answered was super mad for some reason she was yelling at me and saying no we didn't make any mistakes and then she was like we called to let you know flounder wasn't available I said please just don't lie, mistakes happen and it's fine she threw a tantrum at me and I had to hang up on her. The bait to plate items was okay. I wouldn't come back for cooked seafood. You're better off ordering something from Barney Stones from across the street. You can order fresh seafood and cook them yourself. The clam chowder was really sweet, which made the chowder tasted out of place. I ordered the soup for takeout and the containers was so cheap, it break all over the bag. Note: The last time I came, a homeless lady came in and was harassing me to buy her seafood and the staff didn't say a word. Save your money! Ordered two fried seafood platters. The haddock is def frozen, flat and dry. The fries are def the flour coated kind that comes in a bag from some freezer. They also got my order wrong - didn't get any shrimp or scallop - just flat...dry...haddock fish and gross fries. They were willing to replace my order but I had to order something else (the crab Rangoon which was also inedible) in order to get it delivered with grub hub - $60 down the drain. Smh. read more

One of those Dorchester hidden gems! We were just in the mood for some local take out and have been meaning to try this place and we were not disappointed! Staff was very helpful and the place was really nice and clean. We had the fried oyster plate and the shrimp, scallop, haddock plate. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked. Nothing was dense or dry. The batter had the right amount of seasoning and spice. Fried were crunchy and delicious. The portions are very generous and the price is right.
