Visiting Ireland for the first time, on my way to the Guinness Storehouse for a tour, I came across…read moreMannings Bakery. Looking over their case of baked treats, I decided to grab one and had a good experience, overall. I walked in on a Tuesday afternoon and perused the case for a moment, figuring out what was what and narrowing down what I wanted. The inside is a good size with a few tables and some stool seating. The inside is very much a café. It took over 10 minutes to get the woman behind the counter to take my order, but she was fairly busy prior to me walking in. She did a nice job answering my questions though and cashed me out quickly. Afterward, I found a stool and had a seat and waited no more than five minutes before she came over with a tray with everything I ordered! I ordered a custard slice and an Americano. The custard slice description is a golden and flaky puff pastry filled with fresh Irish Cream & Custard Sweet Fondant. The custard slice was nicely sized and had plenty of cream in the middle! I wish the top of the pastry wasn't hard though, it made eating it VERY messy and cumbersome, but it did taste good. The Americano paired nicely with my treat. Once I finished my mid-afternoon snack, I was told I could leave my dishes and they'd pick them up - a full-service café! Manning's Bakery is a cute little bakery/café serving up some delicious looking treats. I don't think I'd order the custard slice again - the top of the pastry being that hard made it cumbersome to bite and cut into and made a mess. The workers behind the counter were friendly enough but came off stressed out still. If I ever come back to Dublin and am in the area, I'd be willing to come back and try another one of their pastries or maybe a slice of one of their cakes!

Cakes, pies, pastries, all delightful, we did "takeaway" as the Iocals call it but they have tables and chairs in a nice space to eat in, everything looked clean and nicely decorated.

While businesses have been stationed here, just minutes from Kilmainham's main attractions (the Gaol, the modern art museum and the Topaz petrol station), for many years at last this row of shops can offer local and touring foot traffic a place to stop and smell the lattes. Linked via an open doorway to neighbouring Eurospar, this clean, warm coffee house offers plenty of seating and a modest menu of soups, pre-packed sambos, pastries, smoothies... and of course, coffee (and tea, and hot chocolates). Outdoor seating is usually reserved for the indigenous teen population, though local garda will move them on once or twice in an afternoon. Inside it's families and small groups of friends chatting, flipping through left behind copies of The Mail, Sun or Star. The staff are laid back but competent, clearing dishes and wiping down table fairly regularly. Other than the occasional plate collection, customers are generally left to themselves by the baristas - lending to a calm and relaxed atmosphere. Prices are reliably consistent with Insomnia's other outlets, so expect to shell out €2.50 for a regular Americano, €3 and upwards for pastry and around €5 + for sandwiches or soup.

Queen of Tarts (both locations) is by far one of my favorite tea room/bakeries. They carry only the finest sweets and teas. Everything is homemade. They do an excellent brunch as well. The scones have got to be some of the best ever. I've had a lot in my travels and these are grand. The service is always excellent as well. The decor is as charming as it gets. Proper tea service on floral patterned China, giving all the Marie Antoinette feels. A+.

Friendly service. For breakfast, I loved their vegetarian Irish breakfast that they no longer make, but they do have a traditional Irish breakfast. Only served for breakfast or all day during the weekend. Their pancakes were super delicious (€13). We tried it with honey, syrup, Nutella and banana's. These are served all day and everyday. I also tried their baked beans and kale that came with tomato baked beans and fried kale on bread and topped with fried eggs (€14.5). It was good. Another breakfast item that is served for breakfast or all day on the weekends. Their Caprese sandwich for lunch is addictive and they pair it with a great tasty bread (€11). Their cakes and teas are tasty, I love their chocolate cake. Their coffee, lattes and Mocha are average. But the experience and atmosphere still make them enjoyable. Overall, this is a place that I will always visit.
