Inside we were greeted by a very lovely women, whom we believe was the owner. A super menu which listed things that contained eggs and bacon and eggs with bacon. My wife went with a bacon and egg roll and I took the owners suggestion of Spanish Eggs. The atmosphere was really chilled and stress free. The food came out hot and fast. Not that it mattered as we were happily chatting away with the assumed owner. The bacon and egg roll was enjoyable and the Spanish Eggs were something truly amazing. Two baked eggs atop of what I can only describe as chilly con carne but with chorizo sausage instead of mince or diced steak. Slices of white roll for dunking, this dish warmed me up from the inside out. Spice and quite heavy for breakfast, but none the less amazing. The best example of country hospitality.

Amazingly, Govett's has a number of gluten free options on the menu of their home-style food, sandwiches and melts, cakes and bikkies, and the coffee's good too. Especially early on a Sunday morning. But, I guess any coffee would be at that point. Still, my hanging out with a friend cafe pick for a morning in the (usually) foggy upper mountains. It may not look as cool as some, but it has heart. The croissant is ok, I suppose you can't really go wrong with ham and cheese. The coffee was really strong, and the bitterness lingered even after I mix it with the condensed milk. It wasn't bad, just perhaps a tad strong for my tastes. This is a small shop with a charming atmosphere, and I am also letting the quality stuff slide a bit because it is pretty far outside a major city. It is a decent place to stop by because you are surrounded by tourist traps anyway.

They also sell the locally produced Teas & Tisanes teas, who used to have their own emporium in Wentworth Falls. Walls covered in teas to buy and a cafe if you can't wait. While shopping for tea is a little tricky with waitresses unable to get past you, the tea itself is worth it. The abovementioned is a mix of black tea, cactus blossoms, amaranth, mango pieces, pomegranate blossoms and ground chilli pods. A little light on the chilli for me, but a swoon-worthy fragrant cup nonetheless.

Their specialty is a loaf using potato in the sourdough mix. The bakery also sells full sized cakes, slices, foccacia, danishes and more. But I figured it would be a typical small-town cafe, with ordinary fare. I just wanted anything after my exertions. The menu looked ordinary: fish and chips, steak sandwich, beef pie, sandwiches, the usual. But the food was uniformly excellent. I had fish and chips, but the flathead fillets were moist, delicious, and perfectly-battered, not greasy. The chips were obviously made there, and fried just right despite their chunky size. The side salad escaped the default lettuce-and-tomato-and-cucumber throwaway by including sun-dried tomatoes and just a spoonful of wonderfully creamy dressing. With a little pot of garlic aioli to season every bite, I was in heaven. My wife had the steak sandwich and said it was the best she could ever recall having. The meat was thin but still juicy, the onions plentiful and caramelised deep into toffee-territory. Her mint tea was made with fresh herbs, too. For dessert, we each had a chocolate brownie with nuts. It was well-presented on the plate, but a bit cold, just out of the dessert case. They were only to happy to heat them up when we asked, though, and they were delicious.
