Drove 250 miles to get to my Mom to take her to her phone company in person so she could pay her phone bill so her phone service wouldn't be cut off. Mom lives in a retirement facility but lacks safe transportation for her needs. This was after I paid her preceding phone bill from my account at a different bank. Mom presented her check in person to the phone company, which of course wanted to accept the check, on an account with ample funds available. Mom has beed a long term customer of that bank and a valued customer. Previous conversations with her bank indicated there was nothing blocking her right to pay her bill with her checking account, but I replied that her phone company was showing that Mom's bank declined it (with ample funds in the account). The bank kept saying there was nothing stopping her from paying the bill with a check. On Mom's arrival at the phone company in person with a properly prepared check, the phone company submitted the check electronically and received back an immediate notice that the account was restricted and the check could not go through. I have a long list of things to do to assist Mom and I find it deplorable that the Plaza Way Branch is obstructing payments involving a valued long- term customer and that they are either lying about it or repeatedly cannot identify their computer glitch. I previously liked Baker Boyer very much and thought of it as a high quality bank. Mom and I recently wanted confirmation that her accountant's submission of a tax extension coupled with the accountant's initiation of an electronic payment to the IRS from her Baker Boyer Bank account, had gone through successfully, but the bank rebuffed the inquiry, which was insulting, although to the best of our knowledge the accountant thought it did go through. Mom wanted to move the equivalent amount from savings to checking to be on the safe side regarding the IRS electronic transaction, and she doesn't have a safe form of transportation for her needs, to request that in person at the bank. The bank also rebuffed that inquiry. I am willing to seek power of attorney and Mom seems willing as well, but Washington State does allow a person to assist their parent in a role less than POA. I preferred being an assist to Mom for as long as possible, to retain her sense of empowerment, but apparently the time has come for POA, to get past the bank's stonewalling. I'm on the fence about whether we should change it a different bank, despite having strongly preferring Baker Boyer in the past. read more

I have an account with Baker Boyer Bank. I work for a non-profit foundation. The foundation sends me a monthly salary. The foundation sent my salary at the beginning of January. I never received it. I called Baker Boyer on two separate occasions inquiring about the missing deposit. The bank spoke with their "backoffice" and told me on both occasions that they had not received any money transfer. So, I called Baker Boyer's recipient bank, Pacific Coast Bankers bank, and asked if they knew about the transfer. Pacific Coasts Bankers bank informed me that they could see the transfer in their database and that Baker Boyer bank had rejected the transfer. They further informed me that Baker Boyer did not finish the "two-step" rejection process - Baker Boyer rejected the transfer and sent it back to Pacific Coast Bankers bank but did not complete the "second stage of the two-step process" by declaring that the transfer should be sent back to the originating bank. So, It was stuck in Pacific Coast Bankers bank. I called Baker Boyer and told them that I knew they were lying because I had received information from Pacific Coast Bankers Bank. At this point, Baker Boyer acknowledged that they had rejected the transaction on January 12th (this is approximately 2 weeks after they first lied to me). I confronted them and asked why they had lied on two separate occasions and told them they needed to fix the issue. Baker Boyer told me they could not give me any more information and told me I had to deal with Pacific Coast Bankers bank. So, I called Pacific Coast Bankers Bank again, at which point they told me a completely different story which was that they had "no record of the transaction." I was in shock. I called Baker Boyer bank again, and they also now told a new story that they had "not received any transaction and would not provide any more information." Baker Boyer bank has restricted all of my funds. I have no access to money for my expenses. I am completely appalled by this situation. Baker Boyer has literally lied to me three different times and told me three different versions of events. They have stolen my funds - I have bills to pay just like anyone else. This bank operates like a criminal institution. Baker Boyer will treat you with disrespect and confiscate your funds. Beware! Weird ways of banking customer service. Mis-direction, incomplete information provided, and promised procedures unfulfilled. When a docu-sign signature card for a new account failed to be emailed as promised, BB Bankers defaulted to insisting that was not promised, and that the husband (in WW) was in possession of a physical signature card that had been provided him for me (wife) to sign. Hard to believe, since I'm living in another state currently. Banker repeatedly insisted that they were waiting on me to physically sign and return signature card to the bank; despite me telling them multiple times in the phone conversation, that I was NOT located in WA, and I was in Santa fe NM. They could definitely improve their listening skills, and admit that they dropped the ball in this case. read more

It's a BANK. You put your money in and you take your money out. Sometimes you put more money in or take more money out. You know the drill. Baker Boyer is a locally owned bank, standing proud in downtown Walla Walla since 1869. Into history? Check out the information on the website: bakerboyer.com. I don't really care about history, though, but I do care about math. I'm into taking money out (SUBTRACTION), which can easily be done at the drive thru (where the friendly bank tellers greet you) or electronically (where you deal with the not-so-friendly computer). Banking is pretty straight-forward: If I put money in (ADDITION), I can take money out (SUBTRACTION). Some people have some difficulty with that simple mathematical concept and then owe the bank fees (SUBTRACTION). Not me. I like math. And, I like this bank for its personal service when needed. read more

This bank has served me well over the years. The drive-up is definitely handy, and of course, so is the ATM (maybe too handy). One of the features of this bank that I've always counted on is that when I'm travelling, the debit card (with the VISA) logo on it, has always worked. No matter what foreign country I had planted my feet in at the time, BBB never let me down, just stepped up to an ATM, put the card in, and money spewed out. As to being internet savvy, most of my problems would result from my own inadequacies of having my account "expire" because I didn't check it often enough. Not so anymore, with a smartphone, all is good on that front. read more

Dealing with Baker Boyer has been a complete headache. They had the nerve to charge me for a replacement debit card after my wallet was stolen. Their online baking system is not user friendly at all. I am incredibly happy to be switching from this awful bank. I was opted in to paper statements, and then charged a recurring fee for the statements that I never asked for in the first place. Watch your accounts closely as they won't alert you or explain any of the fees they charge. If there was no other bank available to you I would recommend you go get a piggy bank and avoid this mess of a bank. read more

This review is for the Plaza Way branch only. In particular...Jean and Wenda. Wenda is a nice, dumb, over 40 blonde. Jean is an intrusive wonder who probably got her customer service training from the DMV. While Baker Boyer Bank is a pretty good bank, this Jean witch should be anywhere other than a bank or anything dealing with customer service Dear Madam/Sir: I am writing on behalf of my father, an account holder at Baker Boyer Bank. (Plaza branch) On Tues., July 7, 2009, Dad attempted to cash a personal check for $100.00 The teller hassled him so badly, that he had to return home to get his reconciled bank statement to show her. He called me, quite upset. I hightailed it over, returned to the bank with him, and went through the whole ordeal with Dad and her again. She had to call another woman for some odd reason. Now, you must understand, his balance was over $500. and they put him through the wringer just to cash a $100. check. I'm guessing the 2nd woman was the manager? The 2nd woman insisted that SHE go through Dad's account, with his check register to make sure there were no outstanding checks. There were, but Dad had already taken that into account before trying to get $100. OF HIS MONEY. Is this customary? I think not. Those 2 women treated my father like an imbecile and he was not happy. I questioned the 2nd woman, and her response was that she was just trying to help. HA, Dad emphatically told her he didn't NEED HELP THIS TIME. This same woman wasn't on the ball at all that day, as she said she "had to do that before closing his account". HE WAS NOT CLOSING HIS ACCOUNT, ONLY TRYING TO GET $100. OF HIS MONEY. Dad is 88 years young, resides at xxx He is no longer able to drive so was quite happy to bank with BB, as it was conveniently located within walking distance. When he finally walked out of the bank with his money, he told me that if there were another bank within walking distance, he would change immediately. Dad graduated from Walla Walla College with a degree in accounting before either of these women were born, and though his hearing is poor, his mind is sharp. He did not deserve such shabby treatment. The second woman acted like she was opening her personal wallet and extending a $100 hand out instead of giving him his own money. At the very least, I would like to see a WRITTEN APOLOGY with NO EXCUSES by both of these women. The teller was Wenda and I am not sure who the other woman was. I have been banking with Bank of America for over 15 years, and NEVER have they treated me or any other customer in such a despicable manner. I am doing my best to convince Dad to switch to Bank of America. It's only a short bus ride away, and Safeway is always gracious about cashing a personal check if he doesn't want to go downtown. I realize that Dad's little social security and retirement income don't mean a thing to Baker Boyer, however, my DAD means the world to me. I deplore seing anyone treated like Dad was treated. Dad would give the shirt off his back to either of these women if they asked, yet they treated him like an idiot, without a brain in his head. My sincere wish is that when they get old, someone will treat them in the same manner, and they will remember their behavior. Of course, that won't happen. I doubt either of them remember their actions today. I am writing a review on YELP about this. Word of mouth is a powerful thing. Don't even think about suing me for slander or anything else, because every word is TRUE. Forget all the wonderful awards BB Bank has received. Baker Boyer is probably an ok bank, and they have not messed up my account, but I was so dang pi$$ed about how they treated my dad, I closed my account and moved ALL of my banking business to Bank of America. As MaryAnne stated to me, there is a fine line between between being helpful and intrusive. Online upgrades to systems are planned to take nearly two weeks. This level of disruption is typical of the small town attitude of this bank. They seem to think people still drive to a branch and mail paper checks to pay their bills. If you do these things then this is the place for you. However, if you have heard of the Internet, do NOT do business here. They are way, way, way behind the times. read more

We have done our banking here for several years , specifically because they have an Eastgate branch so we do not have to drive downtown . For the most part it has been pleasant . Great greetings in the bank , print email response and so forth . With that said my frustration has been growing over the past few months in regards to their new rules and a pretty steep fee schedule that is going in effect Feb. 1st. The fee schedule demands your accounts have a min. Of $2500.00 - $5000.00 in them at all times or face $12-$15 service fees . Even the ebanking account is facing stricter rules , you can only write 3 checks or be dinged . Sometimes you have to use real checks , not everything can be debit . The letter says "We thank you for your understanding and support as we continue to improve our operations " . Personally not having access to my money or be fined is not what I would call improving business. read more

This Bank should be coined the fee bank. They have a lot of little 12.00 fees they like to extract out of your account and apparently use that money to pad the profits of the company. Seems to me that they are kicking people when they are down. But all employees just talk about policy. If you would like to feel cared for and not be stolen from per the policy small print... Try Banner Bank close by but world's apart in the care and concern ,of even the not so rich and famous people. read more

This summer i have taken an intern position here and i couldnt be happier. There are three branches around walla walla and two have recently been remodled while the main branch is currently being remodeled. Speaking objectively i notice that people who walk into this bank generally always have a smile on their face as they are personally greeted when they walk through the front door. Also personally knowing the founding family and the President (who are all fantastic people) i know that the bank is committed to providing great customer service. I think the key to the banks great success is that the employee's who work there all build friendly relationships with their customers. Baker Boyer is a bank that you can trust and rely on to give you great business and customer service. read more
