They have a very cute outside garden, with a fountain and surrounded by lots of trees and flowers so on a sunny day it's probably the best place you can find in Birdwood for lunch. (Mind you the choice isn't that big either) Great setting, friendly service and a good selection of food, ranging from pies to salads, fish to meat and some sandwiches. I had the beef pie for $14, which came with a small salad (no dressing though) and fries. You could tell the pie was homemade and not coming from a freezer. Very tasty and in terms of size I think the dishes are alright for the prices they charge. One thing that bothered me very much though is that the waitress came clearing the plates of the 3 people that were with me while I was still eating. The Topiary is located Newman's Nursery, and is a picturesque setting from what we could see in the dark. Once inside, there is ample parking, and you'll likely be greeted on the way up to the restaurant by a friendly, vocal cat that hangs around. We enjoyed an excellent six course meal, each meal being made from locally sourced or foraged ingredients and paired with a different wine. One of the standouts for me was the sou-vide egg with pork belly and forest mushrooms. At the end, the chef introduced himself and talked about the final dessert item, garnishing it with a sprinkle of carrot seeds from the garden. It was a nice touch, and we were all very appreciative of the hard work and attention to detail that went into the food. This was a really good night! The food was excellent and the staff were welcoming and attentive, but not needy.
