Great massage by Jessie today. I called last week to book a time, and someone got back to me right away. The suite is very clean and shoes are left at the door (I like that!). Jessie was very professional and was very easy to talk to. She has a great massage technique and I am so glad I came in. I left feeling simply wonderful. For the price it can't be beat. I called in the am v-day weekend and got an appointment same day- lucky me. The place was very mellow just the therapist and I, and the very cute friendly dog. I hate that that bathroom is down a freezing cold corridor but otherwise no complaints. The music was relaxing, the therapist was honest and knowledgeable and worked very hard to get my problem areas resolved. The place overall was clean and the best part was I got every minute worth which you don't often get with other places. I only wish they had 2 therapists on staff that snowy afternoon so hubby cuda had a massage at the same time as well. Overall very happy! They have water and tea available pre or post massage as well. Now if only they had a lounge post massage to relax in that would have taken it over the top. read more

I can't even begin to explain how grateful I am for Balanced Bodywork & Massage. My boyfriend and I were in Lake Placid for a ski vacation when he took a horrible fall on the slopes. I've never seen him in so much pain! In the few hours after the fall, he had extremely limited mobility in his neck and back, even walking was painful. Considering the amount of pain he was in, we did two visits to Balanced Bodywork during our trip. His massage therapist, Adora, was very attentive and thorough and took the time to understand what happened and where he needed help. She really listened to our concerns, which gave us both ease of mind. I think what impressed me the most is that, as out-of-towners we clearly aren't regular customers, however we were treated as such. Adora even educated me on how I could care for him during his recovery. While I wasn't the one who got the massage, I can say that my boyfriend had much greater mobility after his sessions, and was in way less pain overall, which put us both in good spirits! We were both so grateful to find Balanced Bodywork - it truly saved our vacation! If I lived in the area I would be making weekly appointments! read more

I was a desperate, broken little duck. I tell you, I was limping when I made my way here. I didn't know about this place before. I just looked up massage places in the area and read through their website. Immediately, I was convinced that they could give me what I needed. I made my appointment the same day and mentioned what I was looking for and they said they were sure they would be able to help me. Meg P. was assigned to me and she was very professional. She began by asking me how I was feeling and let me give a brief background. So, she thought she would give me a whole body massage with emphasis on the lower back. And she did just the right amount of pressure, I would say. Just like a baker preparing his dough, she kneaded my back rather thoughtfully and systematically. I was a bit sad that an hour had passed so quickly. As expected, I felt sore for the next couple of days. But, alas, I feel rejuvenated now. Omg, first of all the fact that there are only two reviews makes me sad. I hope this doesn't mean that people have been missing out on not only an affordable but incredible massage. So the prices are incredible. I mean you can get a 30 minute massage for 40 dollars. I think thats great. Also a regular hour for 70 dollars. My friend opted for that one, and I opted for a stone massage at 90 dollars (OMG worth it!). The people who worked here were so absolutely friendly. They were welcoming and made sure that we were both very comfortable. I got my massage done by Heidi and she was great, she explained throughly what was going to happen during a stone massage (cause it was my first time), and made sure that I was comfortable throughout. She did a great job and I left feeling like a melted piece of butter. Incredible. My friend shannon got her massage done by I believe Christina. IDK exactly what happened but all I know is she came out looking like she had been transported to another world. She was completely out of it and fully relaxed. OMG This place was amazing!!!! To my fellow yelpers you were right and it only got better from there! I was on vacation and wanted a massage. I looked at the various spas in the area and a lot of the reviews weren't so positive but this place had a five star rating and so I decided to look a their website. Looking at the pictures on the website I got this sort of vibe that was saying this place is for you! Not pretentious, and I got the overall sensation that they were out for your health and well being! I walked over to make an appointment. I booked an appointment with Shelly for the next and explained what I thought was the most important areas to work on. The next day for my appointment Shelly was already familiar with my situation and she worked on all my problem areas. Sooo let me back up for a second and tell you about the atmosphere and or environment is so comforting. Upon entering Balanced Body work and Massage there is a wave a serenity that passes over you and it is like stepping into a whole new environment transforming your aura into that super meditative state. Its almost as if this place prepares you mentally and physically to be healed, relaxed and transformed. Back to Shelly.... She worked on my problem areas with an expertise that comes with experience. I called Balanced Bodywork and Massage on Friday to see if I could schedule a couples massage for New Years Day (Tuesday). I spoke with Stephanie she was very polite and told me that she had to check with the therapist and said she would call me back. After not hearing from Stephanie, I called again on Sunday and spoke with Tim. He also said he had to check with the therapist and than would call me back and let me know. Again I never received that callback. I called,optimistically, and left a message on the morning of New Years Day (Tuesday) to see if they could do a couples massage later that day. That afternoon I received a callback from Stephanie saying there were no openings. I was very disappointed that they did not call back sooner with a reply to my request. My husband and I had a 75 minute tandem massage for our anniversary on our trip to Lake Placid. We were not disappointed. Both of our masseuses were amazing. We have both had our share of massages and we both agreed this was one of the best! Wow, we were going to schedule massages at the spa at the hotel but they were booked. Thank goodness. I researched our options and found this place with great reviews. I receive a lot of massages and this was one of the best ever! I would travel all the way from NJ regularly if I could for a massage from this location and especially Tim. My fiance and I had a couples massage here on NYE - the actual building isn't very aesthetically appealing (was hoping for more of a luxurious spa feeling). We could hear cars and loud movement in the building during the entire massage. I called in the morning and was able to get in just a few hours later and let me tell you - this place is incredible!! The atmosphere from the moment you walk in is relaxed and spiritual. It's very calming and everyone is very friendly. For my massage, I had Stephanie - she is absolutely amazing and I would highly recommend her to anyone. She focused on my problem areas and while it was painful during the actual process, I felt amazing afterwards. I am not a fan of deep tissue massage and she understood that and made sure I was relaxed and enjoyed myself. I will definitely be back for Ironman week in July. I scheduled my appointment by phone in the morning. By that afternoon I was able to walk in & meet my massage therapist who's name was Stephanie. Having never had a massage before, I was nervious - not knowing what to expect. Stephanie was great at explaining the entire process to me - putting me at ease. She was very accommodating at the types of massages I could choose from. But, I left my sore aching body in her expert hands. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly the hour went by or how hard my massage therapist had worked. She almost had me crying out "uncle" a few times during portions of the deep tissue work. But, it was well worth it. As I was able to leave there feeling rejuvenated. There were areas of my body that I didn't know was aching until she had worked on them. It's no wonder that they are voted the Best Massage in the North Country since 2009. My husband and I come here every time we come to LP. They are all great but Tim snd Shelley are amazing! A must visit when you go to LP!!!

We arrived at our appointed time 15 minutes early. We were new customers to this business and we wanted to get the paper work done. The employees were eating lunch in waiting room and there was no room to wait. We offered to come back in few minutes and left. Staff still eating 15 minutes later. My husband was burned by the moist heat (he had a 90 minute sport massage) and I had a 30 minute massage. I did not enjoy the experience. My mood was off due to the way we were treated initially and the 10 minute wait on the table. New to getting massages, but I will not be going back to this business. However, my husband (training for Iron man) felt the deep tissue work was good. He has a high pain tolerance and only noticed the welts, when I pointed them out. My brother in law (also a tri-athlete) went through with his 90 minute sport massage, which he booked previous to our experience. He enjoyed the deep tissue work and he was not burned after his massage. I never write reviews, but I feel strongly that this is not the best body work in Lake Placid. read more
