I won't go into detail about my life and why I need therapy, but my therapist, Denise, has been a lifesaver. I highly recommend Denise, and this practice overall. If you love dogs, Denise brings her dog to every appointment. Denise's dog is well behaved and his calming nature helps me a ton. Therapy dogs are no joke! They do help people a ton. Their new location provides a ton of free street and neighborhood parking. If you don't have a car, they're right next to a bus stop on Armitage, so convenience is still there. This practice really cares about their clients on all levels (ex. mental, financial, emotional, and etc), so don't be afraid to try this practice. Plus, they have been really flexible with scheduling, which is a characteristic that other practices don't have (Trust me, I've checked). read more

Rebecca is a great therapist. I saw her for a few months before moving across the country. I tried to find a new therapist in my new city - it didn't go well and I was really discouraged, and running low on energy and time to do any more crying-filled new client appointments. Boo. So I circled back and asked if we could do appointments over Skype. We've been doing that for months and it is awesome! I really appreciate that she has a flexible schedule for evening appointments (even for people like me living in a different time zone). I've always been an advocate of therapy and would support anyone to seek help when they needed it, but it took me a while to take my own advice. I did a little searching and found this practice on Yelp. Denise and Rebecca had a 3+ month wait list but I needed help sooner, so I was matched with Coral Serrano Bennett. Side note - the initial booking process was all via email & the administrator was responsive and helpful. Coral is new to Chicago and this practice so she had availability within the following two weeks. I've been seeing her weekly since early December and because of the work we've done together, I have my life back. Living through 2020 was tough and brought up old trauma that needed some attention. I've been to therapy in my teens and a few sessions through my 20s, and both times were very helpful, but this chapter of my life needed serious work and care. I was having more anxiety than ever before, and I had to find a way to cope that wasn't just numbing and avoiding. I'm grateful to have found Balanced Life and Coral before I fell deeper into anxiety and agoraphobia. She's helped me understand and accept my triggers, which is really the key to overcoming them. We are currently working on preparing me for an upcoming flight and I feel more confident in my coping skills and self-trust, which is a world of a difference from my outlook even just a few months ago. Honestly, Denise (and Diesel the dog) have been a game changer for me. She is not only candid and frank but she's truly 100% on my team. She's down to earth and makes me feel completely at ease when I share things that I thought would be shameful. She has a way of validating your trauma while also letting you know it doesn't define you or the rest of your life. She has, hands down, been the best mental health decision I've ever made. She often shares helpful resources with me and even emails me links to resources so they are easy to access. She's made a very tumultuous time in my life seem manageable and honestly, what more could you ask for? If you are looking for someone who is understanding and who will also offer truthful and honest feedback she is a great person. I've had experiences with counselors before that I felt just wanted to get their hour in...but this has been interactive and I can tell she wants me to really succeed and not just talk about it. Where to begin? I found Rebecca a few years ago when I was going through a rough time. From our initial consultation, I felt at ease and supported. After hitting some emotional lows in the throes of last winter, I reached out to Balanced Life. Conveniently, I was able to meet with their counselor Denise just a short walk away from my home. This was my first experience with any sort of therapy or counseling. Meeting perhaps 5 or 6 times over the course of a handful of months, I really feel like it helped. Denise made me feel very comfortable, she has a little dog, which is always nice, and she is easy to talk to. At one session we even did some little exercises, that to some degree, made me feel a little silly but ultimateIy showed me some things about myself. I feel there is a direct correlation between meeting with Denise and a lowering of my anxiety as well as taking some concrete actions to move my life in the direction I wanted. The healing capacity of simply talking amazes me, and sometimes doing it with a professional instead of someone close to you is necessary I think. If you feel the need to work some emotional kinks out of your life and are in the Logan Square/Bucktown region, I'd suggest giving Balanced Life a shot. read more

Rebecca is an excellent therapist, I feel like I really lucked out when I was referred to her. She is patient, nonjudgemental, receptive to needs and preferences, and easy to talk to and trust.
